Cliffbreakers Riverside Hotel & Conference Center

hotel was dark, dingy, and had old/dated furnishings. Saggy bed fogged over windows. Free breakfast was not appealing. Overall very disappointing hotel for the price.

Worn out pretty bad in common areas but room was clean and nice

We needed to change reservation due to appt being changed we were coming from out of state. the hotel would not change it or give us a refund or a credit for next stay which would have been a couple days away. So we were out the hotel rate So I will never recommend this hotel.

Had really loud neighbors, but staff took care of the issue right away

The hotel seemed deserted during my stay. No surprise: 1) The telephone didn't work. When I reported it, I was told it was due to a recent storm & they are working on fixing the problem. This meant that all further interaction with the front desk (which as you will see below was often) required my walking there for each question. 2) TV reception (DirectTV) was limited to basic cable stations (MTV, Tru, Farm Channel, TNT, TBS, etc., not HGTV) with no local network stations like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, PBS. I was told they are in the midst of rewiring for HD & these were the stations being provided by DirectTV. Strangely, in the breakfast room, the network stations were playing. When I asked why there was reception there but not in my room, I was told that the hotel had several dishes & some had full reception but the one my room was connected to did not. 3) Certain basics were missing such as sweeteners for the coffee machine, hand lotion and shower cap in the bathroom, a DO NOT DISTURB sign and any information at all about the hotel and its facilities. The desk clerk said they don't provide in-room info on the hotel anymore. 4) The soda machine had 3 diet cokes. That's it! No water, no regular Coke. I was told that they were wiped out over the weekend but when I left on Tuesday, there were those 3 Diet Cokes. 5) The 'gym' had very limited equipment (a couple of treadmills, an old elliptical and some free weights), is next to the pool and reeked of chlorine so much I was gagging.

It met my expectations. It is a nice water front property. It had a very nice hot complimentary breakfast. I will recommend it to others.

The staff was extremely courteous & helpful. Our room was very clean. Breakfast & the view from the dining room were awesome.

My husband and I flew our whole family (east coast and west coast) to see our youngest son in a musical at Rockford University. We decided to call this "Thanksgiving" and decided to entrust this important weekend to Cliffbreakers for it's large, clean rooms; it's super helpful front desk; excellent complimentary breakfast and the amazing sunday brunch which served as our Thanksgiving family meal. Surrounded by layers of varied and interesting antiques which we took advantage of for numerous photo ops...clearly not a cookie cutter hotel chain! This is the third time staying with the Cliffbreakers and this is the third time we've had a great stay. Thank you.

i was heading to Indiana, so to break up the 10 hour drive i left a day early and book this hotel on the road. This turned out to be a great choice.

We have stayed here before. Always been a pleasure. This time they honored our late check in with an upgrade to a corporate room. Opulent! Four poster bed, massive entertainment center and dressers, chase lounge for relaxing, and elegant work table with solid cushioned chair. Bathroom with marble top and huge mirror. Refrigerator kept our left over pizza cool, had a microwave, and make yourself coffee.

Alex made us very comfortable from the moment we entered the Hotel. She called us after settling into the room to re-check on our condition. Very impressive.

This hotel is older but had a lot of character and antiques throughout the halls. Rooms were clean and overlooked the river which was nice. I loved that it was quiet and no traffic or airplanes to worry about. We visited the pool and restaurant and both were nice. Waitresses were so friendly boy nights we were at dinner. Ask to sit by one of the fish tank booths! The free breakfast was wonderful with hot eggs, bacon, sausage, hash browns along with other healthier cold options.

The location was okay for our reason to be in Rockford. The pool was "being renovated" but when we looked through the covered windows, there was no work being done on it and it appeared that the ceiling was falling in. So I doubt if it will be open anytime soon. The internet connection was impossible to use, even when we went down to the business center. The hotel was not crowded, but they still gave us a room looking onto the parking lot and not the river. The room was also hotter than Africa. Tried to adjust the temp, but it didn't change it. It seemed that the restaurant might be nice, but it didn't open until 5, and that didn't work for our schedule while we were there. And be warned that there are only fast food restaurants in this area, so if you are looking for a nice lunch or very early dinner, there is nothing around. The complementary breakfast was very greasy. It appears that it was a classy hotel in the past. There was beautiful woodwork and furnishings, but they were very tattered. Leathers couches and chairs were ripped. Wallpaper was peeling. It was very sad. I would not stay here again.

the staff was very friendly. when we needed a number to a cab company, they were happy to offer one. when we needed a suggestion of a pizza place that would deliver at bar time, they gave us some flyers and options. the hotel and restaurant are very beautiful. lots of antiques. the food and drinks at the restaurant were delicious. we had a riverview room with a whirlpool hot tub. the room was on the ground floor (meh) and the bedspread was not luxurious or fancy, and the tv was an old tube tv. overall though the place is beautiful and compared to your other options in rockford you cant go wrong.

We came to Rockford to see Ghost Brothers of Darkland County and wanted to spend the night before going home on Sunday. We've stayed at the hotels on Rte 20 before but this time we wanted to stay somewhere w/more personality. Cliffbreakers definitely has personality. From the Florentine boar on display in the lobby and the ornate architectural elements in the halls, it is a neat place to stay. The Rock River scenery from the hotel room was great (fall colors were outstanding)! The hotel is only located about 7 minutes from downtown with a lot less traffic than coming down from the Rte 20 hotels. We visited Anderson Japanese Gardens and the Nicholas Conservatory which were both close by (and beautiful). The restaurant is a great steakhouse - the dinner special for the evening was a 16 oz rib-eye which was cooked wonderfully. Food was good and reasonably priced - the staff was very friendly - the themed room was cool (we stayed in the Castle Room)! All in all, a very pleasant experience and my wife and I will definitely stop again if we are traveling in the Rockford area. The picture I attached is of the back of the hotel property from the east side of the Rock River in the park on the other side of the bridge from the hotel.

Room was clean, staff helpful, changed room at last minute to allow grandson to join us. check out confusing because room prepaid and staff did not know how to check us out on third party reservation.

My spouse and i went to this hotel for a company function. This is a nice looking hotel and is kept clean. It is the 'extras' that make a hotel rise above the others, but this place does not have those. The decore is fine, and the hallways and rooms are clean and nice. The bed was older and too soft for my liking. What hurts this establishement is the location. This part of Rockford is an older and run-down part of the city. The adjoining mall is showing its age, and there is nothing in the immediate neighborhood for entertainment or just to go walking outside. The view of the river is not worh the rice of the room. An institutional hot breakfazt was comlementary,.

Enjoyed our stay there. Did the themed suite. Came with a whirlpool and was two stories. Definitely recommend this.

Older facility but very well maintained and very clean.A nice change from newer motels that all look alike.Unique upper level sleeping.Lower also an option with pull out sofa sleeper and fireplace! Upper and lower bathrooms also nice along with 2 tv's.Nice relaxing grounds to walk along river.Cab ride to Coronado Theater downtown only 8 bucks(speede cab).Very easy to find straight off I90 East riverside exit.Where in town for Cheech and Chong Live!!! Excellent restaurant especially Sunday brunch! You wont need to eat again all day cause its all good.

Priced appropriately. Squeeky mattress (from just rolling over) that was a bit too saggy in the middle. Sort of wierd comment, I know, but odd to hear each time my 13 year old rolled over in the middle of the night
