Viva Wyndham Azteca Resort - All Inclusive

We had a little bit of a slow start. The fellow that drove us from the airport didn't know where our resort was. He didn't speak english & we didn't speak spanish. He had to stop twice & ask for directions. It took 2 hours instead of 45 minutes. Everyone at the resort was very nice. The only thing i wish the room would of had a ceiling fan, you can't adjust the temp. And there was no washcloth's which i thought was strange. No tissues, to take off make-up? Only 90 peso's to take a cab to 5th avenue for a full day of shopping. The mini frig is stocked with1 Pepsi,1 diet,1 7up,1 water &1 sodawater. They never replenish it, it states that in a note on the frig.

Staff wonderful. Food ok. Was difficult to get chairs by pool but beach is so beautiful we spent our time there instead. No drink service at the beach or pool but bartender Eder was great. Food always available somewhere. Kid friendly but wasn't noisy with kids like some resorts are. Most of the guests were Germans from what we could tell. We walked over to the Maya and we did prefer the smaller azteca. Don't walk to 5th avenue during the mid-day...gets too hot.

We arrived a couple hours before check in time but were able to get to our room. This is about the 10th time we have been to Mexico and the 8th time in the Cancun/Riveria Maya area. We brought our two granddaughters 13 & 14. The rooms were nice simple and clean. We reserved a superior room but not sure what that got us. We had first floor and pool view. The in room safe was extra $2 per day and there was a small dorm size refrigerator in the room. They told us the first day we had complimentary water bottles and 1 bottle of sprite, coke orange and club soda. they do not supply bottled water after that so if you want bottled water for room for tooth brushing and drinking in room either save those bottles or buy in gift shop otherwise you will only have small glasses to use for room water. DO NOT DRINK FAUCET OR SHOWER WATER!!! There was only one pool in front of the bar/grill area and a kiddie pool fenced off from other pool. there was also a hot tub spa but it was never running. The pool area was kept very clean Being non smokers there were areas separated for smokers which did help. We seemed to be the only English speaking staying at the hotel. lots of French, Italian and German. The staff all spoke pretty good English, enough to communicate. we left our room cleaner $3 each day and had great service as well as towel animals made on bed. The food was ok in the buffet and had really good Italian but you only get 2 nights of other restaurants for every 6 day

Enjoyed our stay here! Clean, great staff. Although they definitely need MORE pool side chairs!! And a computer for customers to print boarding passes! Also free shuttle to 5th Ave. Would be nice too! Food was average. Had bad rain one day water leaked through window. Staff addressed right away. Drinks watered down too. You get what you pay for it geuss.

Restaurants were very good but weird reservation rules could not get some of the restaurants we wanted but when you walked by they were empty. Also asked for a robe but refused said they were for members only not orbitz customers. Otherwise it was nice. Beach was great.

Great hotel on the beach. Friendly staff only con was it took the water along time to get hot not a bad thing waking up in the morning food and drinks were good.

This vacation was amazing due to the staff of this hotel! My family and I truly enjoyed our vacation the food and entertainment was great. A little more activities would have been great but the little they had was good. The food and the restaurants were very tasteful. The bamboo restaurant was my favorite not only because of the food but because of the services in the restaurant. This hotel is very friendly and staff is alway there to help. This is my second time trying out this vive Wyndham resort and once again I'm truly happy with the service. My room was alway cleaned. The food is great and a large selection.

This is a very clean hotel with an excellent staff. Would definitely go back!!!!

We had a wonderful trip and stay at Viva Wyndham Azteca. The food was great, the staff were all friendly and helpful. We had a minor issue with needing a plunger a number of times, but overall a wonderful trip.

The hotel met and exceded our expectations we enjoyed every minute of our stay, loved the size, the staff very professional and friendly. We did not like the first room and they moved us to a better one. A lot of activities to enjoy If you like them.

This hotel was okay. Everything about it was average. The beach was very crowded and the area around the outdoor bar/buffet was rather cold and not very comfortable. There is no place with a view of the water unless your room has a view or you are right on the beach. The pool area, outdoor bar and buffet area and all restaurants are located away from the beach. The rooms were rather dark and not comfortable at all. I would say it's a good place if you are traveling with a large family - but if you are a small family or a couple, there are plenty of nicer places to stay.

The hotel is beutiful is near all beach, pool, snack, te staff is exellent, te buffet is good , te hotel is in playacar near de playa del Carmen , here restaurants, malls, etc, the hotel is perfect for vacation in family

This hotel is not a five star but it comes very close. The staff was great. Always attentive and very nice. For a family with kids it may be better at the Maya but since your able to use all the amenities in the Maya when you stay in the Azreca then for a more relaxed stay I suggest the Wyndham Azteca. The shows at night were very entertaining. Dont expect a Broadway show but its good enough that you will enjoy it. There is an all you can eat buffet. Its pretty good. There are also some restaurants that you would need to make reservations to attend. For the price its great deal. I would definitely return. Only one not so great thing was the seaweed on the beach but if you a down to earth person you just deal with mother nature it wasnt the hotels fault there was so much seaweeds washing up to the shore and they had staff working on removing them but just could not keep up... awesome place... forgot to mention about one show they grabbed some people from the audience and had them compete in some funny games very very funny the winner was named Mr. AZTECA... Very Very good... Mr Azreca was dr

Great hotel. Great food. Great staff. Great value.

Hote was great I will recommend to anyone, service, enterteinment, food ...and general everything just was GREAT!!!

After reading previous reviews for this hotel, we made sure to bring items that were mentioned as not being provided (washcloths, bar soap, Kleenex). Would have been a good idea to bring a few empty bottles for water as well. The hotel doesn't give out many bottles of water, but we managed on the ones we did get- there are water coolers everywhere (restaurant, snack bar, pool/beach area, fitness center), so no problem refilling them whenever needed. Food was good- we ate buffet almost every day, as reservations were really hard to get. However, we did try the Italian restaurant one night (not so great) and the Japanese one night (really good). We only started to get a bit tired of the buffet food toward the end of the week- but they really do have a lot of variety. Staff was excellent- so hard-working and friendly. We tipped housekeeping every two days, and although I don't know if that's the reason, but our room was daily cleaned/tidied up (not an easy job with two parents and two adult children- lots of stuff!). FYI, the fitness center is very warm!! You will sweat without even working out very hard. Plus, the trainers aren't busy (since hardly anyone used the fitness area), so they watch you while you're working out (which is somewhat awkward). All in all, this hotel was great for us- but if you want a luxury, 5 star hotel, this isn't it. However, for the average person, this is a great place to stay.

My husband and 2 daughters (18 & 16) stayed at the property for 7 days. The check-in staff is friendly and very helpful. You are approached by the concierge desk as soon as you arrive to go on a vaction club sales pitch, which is a little annoying. Especially after having just arrived after an overnight flight. You don't have an opportunity to rest. The property is beautiful and well taken care of. The house-keeping staff takes nice care of your room and creates fun towel animals. The bartenders are great, they remember your drinks so when you come back to the bar, they start making it for you. The food at the restaurants and buffet was outstanding and the wait-staff is great during dinner service. Not as much during the breakfast and lunch hours. The beach is beautiful and they offer several non-motorized water sports. The problem with relaxing on the beach is there is no service from the bar unless you are a club member. If you want a drink, you have to leave the beach, walk through the pool area and wait at the bar for a drink. The pool area is small and there are not enough chairs. You have to get to the pool at 7am and leave your things on a chair. Otherwise, you have to leave your belongings on the cement or the lawn. There are far too many unsupervised, rowdy children running around, throwing items or jumping over your head. Meanwhile, their parents are enjoying a relaxing vacation at the beach. There is no staff to monitor this and could be very dangerous. There is also no wait-service in the pool area. If you want a drink, you have to leave the pool, stand in line at the bar and get your own drinks. Not very relaxing. I can stay in a hotel in Las Vegas and order drinks from the pool or my chair. We have stayed in several all-inclusive resorts in the same area and they all have poolside waiters. You get the feeling this is more of a hotel stay vs a resort vacation. I coud have stayed in a smaller chain hotel and spent a lot less money to serve myself. Thankfully, there were enough pros, such as the food and beautiful property, otherwise this could have been a very disappointing vacation. I definetly would not recommend this resort for couples trying to relax and have a good time.

I was not sure what to expect from a 3 star all inclusive resort, could have been a terrible mistake but I was pleasantly surprised! I traveled with my 2 teenage sons and we were all impressed with the cleanliness, excellent service, super friendly staff, organized activities and shows, access to food 24 hours a day. Wonderful environment with all sorts of nationalities and beach front is gorgeous. If you are looking for a wild señor frogs drinking party this is not the place, much more sophisticated and family oriented. My kids loved it!

This was first trip to Mexico and our first stay at an all inclusive resort. The hotel was great. The staff was very hard working and friendly in every way. The room was clean and the a/c worked very well. The food throughout the resort was great. The buffet and the pool bar food was fantastic. We ate at the Asian a la carte restaurant and at the sister resort (Wyndham Maya) the Mexican a la carte restaurant, and both were great too. The area around the hotel is very nice and safe. Walking or jogging around the hotel zone was very pleasant. Walking to Playa Del Carmen to the 5th ave shopping district only takes about 20min or is a 5 min cab ride for about $8. We went there multiple times both walking and by taxi and had a great time. The pool was nice but the water temp was a little warm at times. The seaweed issue that has apparently been a problem in 2015 was hit and miss. Some days there was almost none, some days there was too much to enjoy the water. Overall it wasn't too bad though. We took one excursion that we booked through the excursion desk in the hotel lobby and it was great. It was a day long trip to the Chichen Itza Mayan ruins and a trip to swim in a cenote. It was a long 3hr ride to get there, but it was unforgettable. This resort was everything as advertised and then some. We really enjoyed our trip.

We had a great time. Beautiful resort, great staff, lots of fun. Only thing negative was the dining hall was super hot and had no AC.
