5th trip to Mexico so we don't expect extra plush beds, nor top notch steaks. Our 2nd trip to RIU Playacar, so what we do want they provide. Which is s friendly, safe, clean place with an outstanding beach facility and really good food choices. We also like some sit down options for dinner. Changed from last time was the availability of sit down dinner service with no reservations. We did the Mexican once and Steakhouse twice and really enjoyed it. A fine dining experience, well, of course the cuts of steak leave a bit to be desired, but were very tasty. The beds are kind of standard "a bit on the hard side" throughout Mexico, but we slept very well each night. We were scheduled for two single beds, but with a tip we got a free upgrade to an outstanding room, for which I went back and doubled the original tip. Fantastic service in the buffet restaurants and on the beach where it seemed we had hourly drink service. The beaches were raked daily and the staff kept the guests from getting out of hand with the beach chairs. No problem securing chairs for our daily 7 to 8 hours of beach time. I used the Gym one day and it was well appointed. Thank you RIU - our 3rd trip to a RIU and we will be back. Oh, we also love the international aspect. There may have been 10% American, 35% European, 40% South American and a mix of others. My wife did the daily morning stretch on the beach and I did the afternoon beach dance class with the pretty South American ladies. Loads of fun.

I liked the hotel in general, the beach is perfect and the swimming pools are good but cold, for little kids is not so good. I suggest them to use white towels in the rooms, the brown is not very hygienic. They can improve the food and the service is good but the staff push you to finish quick. The animation team is regular.

would recommend to all my friends, Very helpful staff Pablo at the front desk made our stay very pleasant !!!

The food was amazing! Fresh and variety for days! Very very safe to walk around at night! Beach and pool were beautiful and clean! The shows every night were awesome! Shopping center across the street and a money exchange! I will be back and I will leave another great review! Thank you for the stay!

We had a great time in playacar. Staff was friendly and all inclusive service was awesome.

This was a week's vacation for my family, half of which live on the other coast of the US. Riu Playacar provided the best environment for a wonderful get-together and vacation for everyone, from the 7- and 10-year-old grandkids to the grandparents in the late 60's. The facilities were very well kept and the staff is without compare in their friendliness, courtesy and responsiveness. My grandson turned 10 during our stay and the manager at The Playa (the main dining area) arranged a wonderful surprise for him -- decorated a table and a bunch of the staff showed up to sing to him with claps and balloon popping, and a delicious birthday cake! It was just such a heartening experience. Then that night birthday celebrants were honored during the evening events. My grandson was called to the stage and given a souvenir (a baseball cap) and a certificate saying he joined the festivities on that night of his birthday. The ready availability of food for all our meals made life easy and the food ranged from decent to great. There was always something for everyone -- our family had all kinds: almost-vegetarians to big carnivores, from big eaters to those whose sweet tooth dominated their choices. The service was not just good, it was full of fun. The housekeepers would create animal figures with the towels tied with rubber bands.decorated with crepe flowers and surrounded with Hershey kisses. And when we had a problem with the safe, someone came at almost midnight to help!

Unfortunately more cons than pros at this all inclusive hotel. Would not stay here again. The food was decent and rooms were clean. We called for extra blankets which never came. It took me 4 calls and finally a convo with the manager to get bottled water to the room. The kids club is a small room that is stuffed with kids and the supervision was questionable. In fact I never left my little one there because the check in and out was way too relaxed. They said the kids can just leave and go find their parents. The water temp in the pool was so hot that a dip would not cool you in the summer heat. If you needed a new towel they would not replace them.

Excellent facility made friends with the staff this is Our third year in a row

RIU Playacar is a great hotel! I loved having access to other RIUs in Playacar too. The staff and drink service is top notch. The pools face the beach and accessing the beach is super easy.

Favorite resort in Playa so far! Rooms are nice and clean! Food is amazing and the staff is very friendly! The entertainment was also best we have seen! Defenitely will be staying here again!

Hotel was very nice for the area. Staff was great. Flawless vacation really besides the food can get repetitive. Would be very easy for families. Budget to eat a few authentic meals in town some where. Check in was slow in getting a room but you can go drink or eat while you wait. You could never eat or drink enough while staying here! Always some thing available. Nightly entertainment was an unexpected plus!

Nice property this the redo. We have stayed here three times now. They do a good job and pay attention to the details.

It's a nice hotel next to the beach. The room was clean and cozy. Staff was friendly and courteous. The nightly entertainment shows were entertaining. I think they need to offer more beer selection. There was only one choice. The food was not impressive. It was average.

Large and clean room. Excellent amenities at night! Nice beach

Modern & recently renovated hotel. Liked that the swim up bar was separate from the other pools. Great beach & plenty of lounge chairs to enjoy the sun or shade at the beach. Safe location in gated Playacar community. Easy 20 min walk to 5th Ave but I recommend walking on the beach for a nicer cooler walk. If looking for souvenirs the shops across the street from the hotel are cheaper & less pushy sales people than 5th Ave. Most hotel staff were nice and accommodating. Check-in staff were the hardest to communicate with if you didn't speak Spanish. Plenty of food choices.

Our first visit to this particular Riu. Newly remodeled, the rooms and property are beautiful. Service, activities, and food all very good. A shout out to Rangel, a server, who is very amiable. Thanks for an enjoyable week!

I stayed at the remodeled Riu Playacar October 19 through 29th. My first stay here was two years ago, and I greatly enjoyed the quaint charm and lush surroundings. I found the new architecture stunning--the lobby is a open triangle shape, filled with comfortable sofas, circling a central display of amber lights and exotic plants. It is connected to the main buffet restaurant, the Palms on one side and the theater on the other, The Palms offers a large outdoor terrace overlooking a central courtyard. Both the lobby and the outdoor dining area are cooled by dozens of fans, The open design really helps with airflow: perfect for enjoying a drink in the 24-hr lobby bar or leisurely checking your email (unlimited free wi-fi in the lobby, extra charge in guest rooms). The hotel was 90 percent occupied, and staff did their absolute best to satisfy the large crowds, always smiling and saying hello. Guests were mostly from Europe and South America. Food was just as fresh and tasty as two years ago. The dinner theme changed daily, and breakfasts always impressed with made to order omelets, bacon, pastries and fresh fruit. There always seemed to be a line at the ice cream bar--try the coconut flavor, it's worth the wait! I had room 4122, and enjoyed the fresh modern look. The bed was a bit firm but still comfortable, and the sheets always cool and crisp. New towel animals appeared every night and the minibar was restocked every other day. A hair dryer, iron, ironing board, and umbrella are provided. The shower has a clear glass door with a gap at the bottom. I recommend plugging it a towel to prevent puddles on the floor. Also it's a good idea to hang a beach towel towel over the door for privacy. If you go to bed early or are a light sleeper, avoid buildings 1 and 2 as they are closest to the theater-- you will be kept awake until nearly midnight. The Playacar has perhaps the best beach in the Mayan Riviera--wide and long, with fine white sand, shady palm trees and loungers galore. I swam in the sea every day until dark, followed by an hour in the large heated pool with gorgeous blue lighting. I enjoyed several excursions: Xcaret with its night show, the mysterious Joya by Cirque du Soleil a half day tour of Tulum and swimming with the turtles in Akumal. I cannot wait to return to this corner of paradise next year.

Gorgeous beach. The staff was great and a lot of fun.

First trip to Playa Del Carmen was great. Resort was good overall. Staff very friendly and helpful. Beach was great! The food was ok, better than expected for buffet all inclusive but not great, variety every night was good. Only issue was there was a leak in our room by front door when it rained and we weren't moved even though the leakmin roof was in the closet. We are going back to Playa again because of our greag expierence with this Resort.
