Had a great time at Playacar Palace! Stayed 5 nights - staff is great, food really good. We explored Cozumel and had dinner/ drinks at Cozumel Palace using our all inclusive stay at 1 play at 6 benefits. We loved being able to quickly walk over to 5th Ave for shopping. Great times!!
We visited Playacar Palace for a short 5 day getaway in May. We have been traveling to Palace Resorts in Cancun and were excited to try this one. It started off a bit rocky when we were taken to our room (we were told we received a free upgrade) though it was a beautiful view, we quickly noticed there was not a full balcony. We went back to the front desk and asked to be moved as we really enjoy sitting outside and relaxing and given our reservation stated a balcony. We were told no we could check back tomorrow. I have not desire to delay my vacation in order to move rooms tomorrow so we got over it. Honestly though that was the only negative we have. The food, service, spa were topnotch and we will definitely return to Playacar.
Would go back in a heartbeat. Superb amenities and location.
We had the best stay! There is no possible way we could even imagine better service at the Playacar Palace. That staff was awesome. They were never intrusive but were at our beck and call every minute. There is nothing – from moving umbrellas at the pool to bringing unexpected extras at restaurants to just being super accommodating – the people at the resort were the best attraction, hands down. The room was clean as a whistle, and the view was absolutely spectacular. We never saw the cleaning staff, but they kept our room sparkling constantly. The food was way, WAY beyond what we had expected. The Italian restaurant was five-star every time we went (order the Mayan coffee!) and the Japanese restaurant was outstanding. Get reservations to sit at the Hibachi grill early because it is worth it!! The regular restaurant/buffet that is open 24-7 was top notch and the breakfast in there was awesome. The pool and beach are world class primarily because of the service. The pool side staff that provides entertainment constantly throughout the day was fantastic - truly nice people who are really organized. Forget the hotel credits program and the $1500 or whatever you can spend. The prices are seriously jacked up and you have to pay a 16% fee/tax, so there’s no value there. Do whatever excursions you want. Don’t depend on the hotel to give you anything. We did the Total Cozumel and the Tulum trip. Both were great. The Tulum trip was quick and easy but not so much as a water or a pack of crackers from 8-1:30. Do the Grayline pickup and return taxi to the airport. They were super punctual, clean rides and really nice. We were in a nice van to the hotel and a Mercedes to the airport. Couldn’t ask for more.
Hotel location was perfect with great sea view if you get a room on the third or fourth floor. Staff were great and very polite. Nightly entertainment is just OK. If you are not a timeshare or VIP member however, you may not get a nice shady area unless you get up and reserve it very early in the morning. Also restaurants do not accept reservation which makes waiting time long at times. Also, the $1500 credit comes with conditions that make it not worth using. In General, we had a great time and will go back again
We stayed at Playacar Palace for a wedding in February and had a great time. The resort is smaller than most other resorts and has only 203 rooms. The image of the pool is essentially the resort with the rooms surrounding it. Rooms were ok but definitely some wear and tear can be seen throughout. The food is better than most of the resorts we've stayed at. The pasta at the italian place is handmade and tasted great. They have fresh fish that they get from the ocean and cooked daily. Even though the resort was full you can alway find a lounge chair by the pool. People are nicer at this resort also. The service poolside was slow but you can always swim up to the bar. Overall had a great time.
Awesome! Loved this place...everyone is so nice and accomodating!
Playacar Palace is a very nice hotel, right at the start of Quinta Avenida. A shopping/bar street you won't find in Cancun. Hotel is not too big and you feel stuck in the resort. The rooms are spacious with an amazing view on the sea (with Cozumel at the horizon). The spa is amazing and all staff very service focused. 3 restaurants serve nice international food. The beach is large and clean. Take the ferry (right next to the hotel) and enjoy the facilities of the sister hotel in Cozumel. Pool is little small and bit crowded.
We stayed at the Palace March 8-12th. Overall wasn't bad but didn't have that "didn't want to leave" feeling. The food was pretty good but not spectacular. The staff for the most part were very good, always smiling and helpful. The room was average but still nice. Where we got turned around was a few things. When we got there we didn't get the room we requested but they still gave us an upgrade and it was a busy week so we can't complain too much. The Japanese hibachi was a bust due to the fact that they told us the wrong time for the reservation and when we arrived they told us we could no longer participate (even though there were empty chairs!) not very impressed at all. The other issue we had was that we were thinking of staying an extra night at the beginning of our stay so I went to the front desk and inquired about the cost. They told me they couldn't tell me then and would call our room and leave a message. The next day there was no call so I returned again and asked and they told me the same thing so we waited AGAIN. The next day guess what? Yes no call, so I went to the desk and asked the manager what the deal was and I was told there was no availability. I then asked what the cost would be if a room did become available and he quoted me a price per night that was $300 per night higher than what we paid! I asked if I could go online and look for a better price and he told me that there would be no availability due to the fact they are at full capacity. At this point I gave up due to the fact they didn't want any more business. Curiously i did go online and check and there were rooms available at a much lower cost. The whole thing left me with little desire to stay another night Last thing but not a big deal. Our kids are 10&12 and there were not that many other kids around. Not a big deal for a few days but might be an issue if staying longer. Overall we would not go back. Not a bad place but it is not the top end service they like to sell themselves as having.
We were here a yr ago, it is still great. Food, drink, staff and room are excellent. This is a place for the traveller who enjoys the good things in life, not stuffy over the top, just excellent quality. Notice I said traveller not the tourist, don't go expecting "cruise like" activites or crowds, go elsewhere. Stay here for the quality, laidback good times. I'm sure further into the summer it gets a little more crazy, but making new friends while hanging out at the pool and bar, this is the place. Service staff very friendly remembering us from last year. We took a few excursions, which were very good if you want to take the time. Masssage excellent, gym hrs should be extended 6 to early to close. Our sons ages 21 & 24 love this place so much we came back two yrs in a row.
The hotel was very nice and clean, the staff was great!! Everyone was more then accomodating, and if there was anything you wanted, it was there in short order. The restaurant staff was awesome, several nights suggesting we take a full bottle of wine back to the room with us. (which we did) The property was beautiful and clean. Beach was wonderful, and very clean. Most mornings i watched the staff raking the seaweed off the beach that washed up the night before. The beach was ready to go every morning by 8am. What was not as described was #1 the terrace for the room, which was supposed to be part of the upgraded concierge package. Viewing the hotel, clearly there are rooms with terraces. However i was told there are not. But after voluntarily going to the (Timeshare) sales seminar (so to speak) part of thier sales pitch was to move me into a room with a (terrace)! # 2 Also the trip was reserved with a large amount of hotel credits as a promotion ...... this was also not as it portrayed by the website... the credits could only be used for limited items and excursions. And there were limits on how much could be used for each. Also, were limits put on the Spa. So basicly everything is not all inclusive with the resort credits. The most shocking thing to us was the person who said, i can not help you with the terrace thing, because you booked through xxxxxx, not the hotel's travel agency. He then went on to state, if you booked this room though our agency, that only then would it be a problem. So.....would i go back? Not sure...... Its tough being decieved on vacation!
Just got back..wish I was still there. This is a smaller, intimate hotel with outstanding service!.The staff could not do enough for us...even handed us cold waters for the trip back to the airport. For those who want quiet and comfort...not for those who like constant action and noise. Spa was drop dead gorgeous...hot stone massage was magnificent. Used our points! Took ferry to Cozumel and stayed at sister resort for the day..a lot of fun! Food was outstanding..I couldnt believe how fresh it all was> We Wil be back!!
Absolutely wonderful! Beautiful private beach and very close to 5th Avenue for shopping and clubbing.
We loved this resort - the location was perfect, the grounds were well kept, the room was comfortable and clean, the staff & service was top-notch, the food was good, and the beach was one of the best! One of the best things was that they had premium liquor and the drinks were great - not always what you find in an all-inclusive. The only con was that they didn't have Hobie Cats onsite for sailing - we took the free shuttle to Moon Palace in Cancun, though, and found them there. I would definitely recommend and return.
The Hotel was more than you could ask for, the service was first rate and the people were friendly. The beach was beautiful and the weather was great. I would definitely recommend this resort to my friends and family. The only issue I had was during my check out they were trying to charge me for a tour that I had signed up for but didn't go on, it was cancel at the service desk but not take off my bill. I could of paid for it ahead of time in cash and avoided all the hassle I'm going through now but they wanted you to charge everything to your room.
Smaller and older than other Palace facilities however very clean and friendly staff. Close to town for shopping .Only 3 restaurants however food 1st class. Beach great but no waves for boarding. Relaxed atmosphere. We would recommend.
Location is perfect!! Walking distance to 5th Ave, ferry, restaurants etc. We had one of the best rooms possible on the 5th floor overlooking the pool and ocean.
Playacar Palace was above and beyond what we were expecting in a vacation! The hotel is about a hour drive from the Cancun Airport, which is a little inconvenient, but also gets you away from the more hectic Cancun. Playacar has a more secluded and laid back feel to it. First of all, the location is really top notch. This hotel is a little older (but well maintained) but as a result has laid claim to prime real estate. The beach is fantastic - white powder sand, warm turquoise ocean to swim in - so much like a postcard its hard to believe that its real! Right next door is the lively "downtown" of Playa del Carmen, great for shopping and night clubs if thats your thing. A number of guests seemed to spend a lot of nights at Senor Frogs, which is just adjacent to the hotel. Also, the ferry dock to Cozumel island is right there too, offering an easy way to get a change of scenery (there is a Palace resort on Cozumel, so you can get your all inclusive benefits there as well!) The all-inclusive food and drinks were great. We ate twice at Terraza (the italian restaraunt) and twice at the Asian one, and once at the Mexican Buffet. Sushi was pretty good at the Asian restaurant, though the entrees were a little hit and miss. Italian was consistently delicious, and the buffet was really good too! The drinks were surprisingly good. I had been expecting things to be a little watered down, but they seemed full strength to me - and tasty to boot! (we tried Pina Coladas, Margaritas, Mai Tais, Miami Vice, all great). My only complaint is I would have prefered Corona rather than Dos Equis for the beer. The service was really exceptional. From the moment we arrived to when we left, the staff worked really hard to make sure we had everything we needed. While gratuities are included, it seems a few small bills for great service are appreciated - and these folks really earn it. Having the $1500 resort credit offer available for tours was what led us to choose Palace in the first place. We did the Chichen Itza, Tulum, and Isla Mujeres tours. The mayan ruins were incredible, and we had top notch guides each time (Arnando was probably the best guide we've had anywhere!). The drawback is a mandatory stop at a Mayan gift shop for each of the cultural trips. Some of the stuff they sell is pretty neat (I like the obsidian carvings) but the prices are a little high. If there's nothing you want to buy, you end up standing around a while. Isla Mujeres is good if you want to snorkel (I loved it, my son and wife were not as keen on it) or swim with the dolphins / manatees / sharks / sea lions. Not really my thing. All of these things cost extra. If none of these things appeals to you, stay at the hotel. The food and drinks are way better, the beach is nicer, and the shopping in Playa del Carmen is better too. Room was big, my 7 year old was the only one to use the jacuzzi tub (bubble bath) but it looked those traveling without kids could enjoy a nice romantic bath. Beds were comfy - perhaps a bit on the firm side for most, but just right for me. Plenty of bottled water, which was always restocked. Also, do the room service for breakfast on tour days. The bus leaves early, and you'll be glad you got something quick to eat. I never used the pool, the ocean was so warm and nice to swim in. My 7 year old loved the waves, and played in water and on the beach for 5 hours straight. There is a sandbar about 40 feet offshore, so the depth is always less than 4 feet for a good ways out. My son could touch bottom as far out as the sandbar and beyond, so wading is pretty safe for kids (of course, you still need to keep a close eye! but you don't have to be holding on to them the whole time either). Overall, one of the best vacations we've taken! It was a our first real "beach" vacation, now we know what we were missing!
We mostly stayed at the hotel. The service was amazing. The ocean view was incredible. Best week of our lives :) I'd recommend Playacar Palace to anyone.
We've stayed in many all-inclusives in Mexico and this is the best yet. Excellent food. Excellent location just a block from the Cozumel ferry and 5th Avenue. We visited Playcar Palace on a day trip a couple of years ago and saw the lack of beach as the only drawback. Now that the beach is back in tact, this place is perfect!
