It was the perfect family getaway! No elevators, no big resort feel - friendly staff, good food, laid back....just perfect.
We chose Mahekal randomly for our 1st trip to Mexico and our expectations were exceeded, by far! We brought our 2 kids (ages 7 & 10) and they were treated just as well as we were. The resort has everything you need- multiple pools, beautiful oceanfront, and 3 restaurants with amazing food. The staff goes out of their way to cater to you and are so friendly. Our concierge, Boli, was delightful, helpful, and booked two excursions for all of us that were better than expected. We had 2 meals included per day and the third was on us, so we took the quick walk into town (5th Avenue) and picked a different spot each time-and shopped too- Safe and easy. The rooms are a bit small, but we were not there much except to sleep and shower- the rooms are charming and have very good a/c and comfortable beds. There is one bar that has pool tables and ping pong and a pottery painting studio for the kids across from it. We LOVED it here and cannot wait to return! Beautiful hotel, city, and people ...Muchas Gracias!
Very nice facilities! Good food, friendly staff but the rooms are very small for 3 people and they have lack of amenities. No TV or room to unpack suitcases! A/C unit is not good enough for the room it got very hot at night! Anybody can walk into the resort at any time and the guards won't even ask where they are headed! Actually there was an early morning security issue where a man was looking through one of the room window and the guest saw him!
This was our first time at Mahekal. We had a wonderful time. Enjoyed the landscape and layout of the resort. Lots of green on the ground yet on the beach. The meals and variety of choices was very good. Staff was friendly and service oriented. The room was delightful, comfortable, and clean. Great place to do absolutely nothing and decompressed on the beach. Or enjoy the shops in town and the excursions. We would come back again.
We stayed at Mahekal for a week. We were originally put in room 193 which was in the jungle section at the back of the property. Due to construction right over the privacy fence,The manager Eric upgraded us to a beach location in room 28 which was beautiful! Staff here are so friendly and accommodating. We did not do the all-inclusive. We ate three nights at a wonderful restaurant called Trujillo's nearby. The beach is Narrow and has an off odor at times.
I will book this one again. The best hotel. From the room to the staff.
Experience was wonderful except orbitz completely messed up passenger names email adress. Got to the hotel and orbitz only booked it for 2 instead of 4. I was offered a $50 travel voucher for the hours of inconveniences. Will never book orbitz ever again. Not only did they mess it up but they made me pay for the extra 2 people.
Beautiful resort on the beach. Very tropical feel. Very nice pool areas. Good food. Close walk to 5th Ave. Wonderful staff. Excellent internet service. Great value for the price.
Beautiful resort, smelled like sewage, near manitas beach club and 5th Avenue. All inclusive is nice but completely unnecessary. Staff was very helpful and nice.
I almost didn't book this hotel based on other reviews complaining about the beach but I'm glad I stayed here. The hotel has the vibe of a real beach villa you don't feel that you are staying at a hotel at all. Is not huge so the staff treatment is very personal, the beach is just amazing (I am from Puerto Rico trust me when I say this beach is amazing). Hotel have everything you need to enjoy the beach and the pool area, breakfast and dinner (buffet) just excellent, there's an option to order a la carte in the restaurant but for me the buffet had everything. Drinks are not included but not expensive to drink at the hotel, if you want you can buy alcohol or refreshing drinks at an exxo (equivalent to 7eleven in the USA) right next to the hotel. If you are looking to have an amazing time also enjoy playa del Carmen town this is the place to stay. La 5ta avenida is a block away and it has all kind of stores, restaurants, bars etc. I rented a car just because we wanted to explore tulum and other cenotes outside of playa deal Carmen but the hotel has a taxi stand right in front so it is up to you. Also they give you bicycles if you feel like riding playa deep Carmen town. If you ask me, next time I'm at playa del Carmen I will stay here. Nothing negative to say about this hotel but those who say that the beach smell I really don't know if I can trust those persons because for me the beach couldn't been better.
The resort and staff were amazing for the most part. The resort itself is beautiful and counts with great amenities. The problem I had, was that reserved a room with a king size bed via Orbitz and when I got there they told me there were no rooms available with the that configuration. They offered me another room with a king size bed at a higher prize. That does seem right when I already paid for a king size bed. I didn't want to pay or have an unpleasing moment with my wife so I took the to full beds. Just make sure that your reservation is respected. I'm hoping Orbitz will take matters into helping me with this issue.
Front office was a disaster......Ihave come toPlaya adozen times and this was the worst. We were delayed at registration for six hours although the hotel was half empty
Check in was a disaster. The desk clerk was new inexperienced and rude. The place was half empty yet he could not give the three families the type of rooms we requested and paid for in advance. He also did not return some valuable papers I gave him just to look at. The rest of the staff was good and nice
Nice hotel, the staff amazing, really nice people and the installations are what I specter.
Have stayed at Las Palapas (now Mahekal) several times in the past. The beach and location is excellent, not to mention I like the non-big hotel feel. However, when I booked, no one mentioned construction at the hotel (ear plugs available at front desk) that started at 8 am and continued off and on through the day. Only one restaurant was open also. Service at both pool bars was slow at best. 3-4 workers and you almost had to jump and wave to get service. Unfortunately the same held true but worse for the dinner wait staff at the restaurant. They only great service we received was by the wait staff we had for breakfast, he was excellent and attentive. The pools are nice and the desk/cleaning staff very efficient and friendly. I miss the service at Las Palapas and their previous wait staff who didn't wait to see if you needed something. Overall a disappointing stay.
We arrived at 10:30 am Aug 6. Check in like most hotels are at 3pm, but they quickly got us (my son and wife) a room by noon. Awesome! But, I booked 2 queen beds, we got a king. We would have been ok with that, would have been a little uncomfortable especially as our son is big 12 year old. They resolved this by rolling in a twin. We were fine with this. They offered us an apology with a letter and a plate of chocolate strawberries. The resort is a smaller one with lush tropical plants and lots of coconut trees. Beautiful! We prefer this to the mega resorts. There currently is no gym, but they are expanding. The beach was beautiful. The location of the hotel could not have been any better as it was far enough from 5th ave with all the shops and restaurants, but close enough to walk, about 10 minutes. The all inclusive is really by definition not all inclusive. You get breakfast and either lunch or dinner each day, but you have to pay for any drinks. We didn't mind the choice of either lunch or dinner, kinda forces you to discover the area, which we liked. (This is our 15th time in the cancun to playa del carmen area.) Although, I wish at least, non alcoholic drinks were included in the all inclusive. They do give you 2 bottles of water everyday in your room. The food they served was delicious to us. We paid an extra 2500 pesos for the drinks and tips, roughly 150 us dollars. We are non drinkers. The resort doesn't have much to do, very relaxing. There are no televisions in the rooms (great idea!) 2 billiard tables and a ping pong table at the bar along with 2 televisions All in all, we loved our experience at Mahekal Beach Resort. We will come back! ps....buy mosquito repellent...you will get them when you have lush tropical life if you like the mega concrete resorts..this hotel is not it. if you like a lush tropical small resort...this is paradise!
This lovely, somewhat secluded resort is a wonderful destination for family and couples. The layout is wonderful, the beach is swimmable and clean. We arrived just after a storm so there was quite a bit of seaweed, but it was still nice. The rooms are spacious and clean. The units are airconditioned. Hammocks on each patio. The resort is quiet and never feels crowded even though they were at maximum capacity. 5th Avenue is withing walking distance and a pleasure to stop by for a drink or dinner when not at the resort. Tulum is approx 45 min away, as is the airport. We rented a car, not really sure it was necessary. I would go back to this resort again, for sure.
Staff was SO accommodating and helpful! Resort is beautiful and perfect location!
Great location. Wonderful friendly staff. No wifi or TV in room. Waves very loud.
The hotel has a very private feel to it. The view from the dinning room is beautiful!!!
