We have stayed at the barcelo hotels many times. Would have been 100% happy with hotel, however there was a conference there of ~200 people that took over the hotel depending on where they were. There were only 2 shows the entire week at the palace and neighborhooding tropical due to conference related events. The conference also took over the main pool one afternoon and other areas. Would also be great if they could offer mask and snorkel rentals at each hotel rather than the middle of the property. As always the service food drink and beach were great. Very hard to beat this hotel.

Excellent location, the facility is kept in top shape. My wife and I have been there three times and will be going back next year. Things we would change: The volume of the music at night. Let parents use the water slides with the children as some little ones are still afraid of doing it by themselves, and Have at least one swimming pool open all night

We just got back from our wonderful vacation at Barcelo Maya Palace and we were extremely satisfied with the Hotel, the service, the food, the beach, and the pools. Everyone was very friendly and willing to assist in whatever way they could. This is a great option for families looking for an all inclusive package.

We loved this hotel. This is our 2nd time vacationing in Mexico with our 3 kids and the kids always have a great time. The view of the ocean is beautiful whether you have an ocean view or not. I was a bit bummed our room wasn't close to the main entrance but it actually didnt matter too much. The staff is friendly and helpful. The kids pool and activities are great. The size of the pools are great. The food at the buffet was ok but its what you can expect from all inclusive resorts and my kids always found plenty to eat. We made it to 4 of the 5 restaurants we signed up for and think the Caribe/French ones were my favorite. I like the option of being able to go to the other 4 hotels and swim, eat, watch the shows, etc. I would def recommend the Michael Jackson show, I can say I was pretty impressed with that guy who actually sang, etc. The main fitness gym and spa was very nice. We also went to Xcaret and swam with the dolphins which I would recommend. We ended up getting a good deal through Expedia so that was definitely a plus.I'd say this is more a family oriented hotel so if you have kids I would definitely recommend it.

We are a family of 4; 3 adults and 1 child, (8 years old). When booking hotels, we were looking for an all inclusive, family-friendly hotel near beautiful beaches and with quick access to local tourist attractions. We booked the "premium package" at the Barcelo Maya Palace. We were so pleasantly pleased with all of the extra "perks" that came along with our stay! Premium services included daily access to the hydrotherapy services at the spa, room service, and wi-fi across all sister hotels. We also had access to free childcare throughout our stay from 9am - 9pm! Throughout our 10 day stay, our 8-year old son fell in love with the staff and made friends from all over the world! We enjoyed great night show entertainment, warm beaches, swim up bars in the pools, and the gym. The hotel offered so much to do and see that we were never bored and even with 10 days, still hadn't tried everything each hotel offered. We caught a dolphin show and took a ride on the catamaran as just some of the water play offered. And the food at the palace was fantastic. Each night had associated themes (European, Italian, Mexican, etc) from which to choose from. I especially loved that they had kids foods available in addition to fresh veggies, fruit, and the meats were grilled to order. The chef, and wait staff also ensure that you are fully catered to with anything you could possibly ask for. I can't say enough about this amazing hotel. We truly look forward to returning in the future!

Rooms are very far from the pools and beach. Be prepared to walk 7-10 miles a day. All staff at CoCo swim up bar were very rude. The food at the buffet is disgusting. Make sure to make reservations at the restaurants because that's the only real food you'll get.

The hotel is beautiful - well maintained with great beaches (complete with snorkeling with sea turtles) and nice reasonably modern rooms. The Palace section is not overly crowded feeling even when the hotel is at capacity. There are two really fatal flaws here: 1) The Front Desk / Premium Lounge process is absurd. It took all of us (18 in our party) over 2 ours to check in. That's to check in...not to get a room. I'm talking about standing in line waiting... It's a combination of an absurdly slow process with under staffing and a complete unapologetic staff. Checkout was over 30 minutes once it was your turn. No one understood their bill and the staff could care less if you miss your flight due to their slow process. 2) Reservations for Dinner - can't get them at a reasonable hour. We checked in and were told we couldn't make reservcations until our entire party checked in. Once that happened we could eat at 5pm or 10pm and nothing else was available. HORRIBLE process. We booked 12 months ago and couldn't eat because someone had a later flight!? They need to base their process on who booked first and let you reserve online... the wait-til-your-entire-party-arrives process is super unfair. The worse part was that the restaurants were EMPTY! They refused service to customers despite most restaurants empty all the time. WHY??! Lastly - Premium upgrade. We had it. Other than a better room location you get absolutely nothing of value. Premium lounge is worse!

This was our 4th trip to Barceló Maya Palace. We had a group of 17 this time, ages 3 to 66. This is a great resort for families and large groups. The highlight of the trip was again the staff. They always go out of their way. The food is great and has a great variety of choices. If you haven't been to Riviera Maya, don't expect the Ritz Carlton. We love the fact that there are Palapas in the pool to create a break from the sun throughout the day. Like any resort we've stayed at, you do have to arrive at the pool early to get a good spot. There is a bit of an issue with people who put towels on chairs and show up hours later. If you want premium tequila or other spirits you have to ask

We stayed at the Barcelo Maya Palace and LOVED it. Everything exceeded our expectations. The entire Barcelo compound was immaculate, the food was amazing. I'd definitely recommend this resort to anyone thinking about going to Playa Del Carmen. We will definitely be back.

Great all inclusive resort for families. There's not much more that you can ask for.

Barcelo Maya Palace is a big resort with lots of food choices and a nice big pool. Service was really good in all areas of the resort. The Online check in option made check in a breeze.

Bedding was comfortable. The hotel has good quality mattresses. Sleep quality was ok; sometimes drunken crowd has bothered us.

The food was good. The pools and Beach were great. Very relaxing trip. Will definitely return.

Our trip was extremely disappointing in service, hospitality and convenience. The day we arrived, they put us in the worst room. Now mind you the hotel was half empty at the time. This room is in the last building and in the last room! We have three small children. To Place us in the farthest room is inconvenient and honestly it's offensive! Especially since the hotel was empty! In the evening, I called housekeeping to make up the children's beds. It took three calls and 2 hours later for the beds to be made. It was 22:15 at the time! My children are five and 8 years old. So the next day we complained about the room location and they moved us to another room.. The room location was great but the air conditioner did not work properly! We had to wait until the next day to have it fixed. Not only that, the drainage wasn't working properly, the phones needed to be fixed, and the sinks would overflow. What kind of luxury hotel is this? Disgusted with the resort, we could not wait too leave. Is this what we should expect from a nice, high end vacation? To worry about how uncomfortable we were? No! It should be care free and relaxing! To ends it all, as we were packing we saw all these little bugs all over the closet floors!

We could not have been more pleased. Everything was more than expected. Rooms were VERY clean and it seems they have thought of everything from the "sofa beds" to the rack on the patio to hand wet clothes to dry. The staff was always friendly and helpful. The only thing that I would say needs work, is the check in process. It was a bit long but the good thing was we were considered "premium guest" so the wait was in air condition and they had snacks and drinks available while waiting. When we were taken to check in, it wasn't communicated what to expect, but over all the process worked, it just took a while. Facilities were amazing from the pools to the aquatic sports center, to the ocean access and showers to rinse when coming in from the beach. The beach was GREAT, sea turtles EVERYWHERE and again, very clean beached. There is a lot of walking at this property but well worth it. Love the way it was laid out, just take good walking shoes. Will definitely stay again!

Awful service people are not helpful checking in is awful no food at the pool never will go there again

We stayed at the Palace for 6 nts last week. The rooms are very nice. Spacious, clean, nice bathroom. They give you toothpaste, cheap tooth brush, cheap shaver, bath salts, comb, loofa body scrubber mitt, in addition to the regular stuff. That was a nice touch. they also give you extra beach towels. The resort includes 5 resorts & is so huge, they have a double decker bus to transport folks to diff parts. The sheets on the bed were absurdly loud. I don't know how or why, but they were. Combined with a loud mattress that sounded like a crib mattress (loud plastic covers) -- it woke us up anytime anyone moved. It was really awful. Pros: great hydro therapy at the spa. Dolphin experience on the property Room size If you have young kids, this place has lots for them to do. All the restaurant and buffet staff, except for La Fuente were wonderful Fitness center Cons: Loud beds If you dont have young kids, and/or you prefer a quieter vacation, this may not be the place for you. Personally, I would not honeymoon here. No bar foods or snacks - probably because it would be very messy with so many young kids. Breakfast and lunch and snacks are only served buffet style. we went off property to eat a couple days. Ridiculously hard to get reservations at restaurants Caribe was not good Some of the bar staff at the pool were indifferent to serving people. I get it, it's long days, 6 days a week. no beach wait staff (there is at pool) Mosquitos

great family resort

if only you could avoid the front desk...
