The location is excellent, rooms are very comfortable, the staff is friendly and breakfast is lovely and variable. Food in the hotel restaurant is delicious; hotel guests get 20% discount on Latvian dishes. Unfortunately the street is rather noisy in the early morning because of party makers leaving the Rockcafé as well as garbage collection trucks.
My daughter and I have recently returned from an excellent 4 night stay here. All the staff were very helpful and polite, especially Janis and Aijia on reception. The selection of food at breakfast was very good, with hot items such as bacon, sausages, boiled and scrambled eggs, fried potatoes, pancakes and porridge. Cold items included cheeses, ham, herrings, salad and cereals. The croissants and cakes were delicious! Being situated in the old town, it was a short walk to the famous sights, restaurants and shops. We had a superior twin room on the 4th floor overlooking the street. The beds were very comfortable. The rooms have double glazing and air conditioning. With the windows closed we weren't disturbed by people outside leaving the clubs well after midnight. We were able to order a taxi from reception to the airport. It only cost 15 euros, very good value for a stress free 10km journey. We will always stay at Radi un Draugi. My daughter said it felt like 'home from home'
The Hotel is perfectly situated in the old town with plenty of restaurants and pubs nearby. The problem with this is the noise in the street, and they know it, I founded a complimentary earplugs at the room .... On the other hand, breakfast is very good, and staff and cleaness y absolutely perfect.
I should have written this review a lot earlier, but in truth I forgot! I was treated to a week in Riga for my birthday by my daughter as I had never been to Latvia (my father was Latvian and it was an experience to see his homeland), and the entire experience was brilliant. The hotel is situated in the `old town` which has all the best architecture and bars, and is within easy walking distance of most things you may wish to see. My room was what I would describe as `adequate`, but this seems to unintentionally do it down! It was very clean, decently equipped, quiet, of a good size and just felt really comfortable and welcoming. The staff were without exception helpful, polite and very pleasant, the breakfasts had a generous choice of fresh and well-cooked food, and the restaurant had a decent menu (including traditional dishes) which was reasonably priced and delicious. The free wi-fi was quick and reliable, and nothing seemed too much trouble for whoever was manning reception - their English was better than in many places in the UK. If (when?) I return to Riga (and I heartily suggest other try it as well) I would look no further than "Friends and Family" as it really does feel a welcoming place to stay, not too small to feel cramped and not too large to feel impersonal. I believe the rooms which open on to the street can be a little noisy, but it is such a lively place to be that some noise from the street bars is pretty much inevitable, and after all it is a hotel in the middle of a city - its also better than the traffic noise which is the norm in most cities. Cannot recommend it enough..
I have stayed at several hotels in Riga and this one is the best by far. First of all because of the location but also many other things: room size, cleanliness, service, quality of breakfast buffet. It is very good value for money. I'd recommend for business and also for other kinds of travel stay.
"Friends and Family" It has a terrific location in the old town of Riga. If their own car park is full there is another only a few steps away (just as well - it was pouring with rain when we arrived). Friendly and helpful staff, comfortable room without being terribly spacious, certainly fine for a short stay. Easy walks to all the local sites and sights once you get a sense of direction. Lots to see and do, plenty of shopping opportunities. Terrific place. Breakfast included in the hotel was OK without being magnificent.,
Very impressive hotel for the first time of visiting Riga. Quick checked-in process with warm welcome from the staff after tired flight is great appreciated. Restaurant is delicious and had good recommendation from waitress. Despite, I asked several questions for ingredient contained, she's happy to response my query including give more detail that gain my knowledge. Location is quite good; It's peace but can walk throughout landmark places. Leaving since early morning, I was surprised by a light meal set that I've never obtained from my experience hotels before. It's very very beautiful things presenting they service the guests with heart.
Good hotel in the heart of the historic old town. Spacious room. Beds not so comfortable. Good bathroom, proper shower head with plenty of hot water. Varied breakfast buffet, but a bit short on fresh fruit. Friendly, helpful staff. Only drawback was our room at the front. Opposite is the hard rock café. We did not hear the music, but it's drunken visitors were loud until next morning. So perforce we slept with window closed (double glazing very good fortunately).
* Great position right in the old town area, back rooms quieter, front overlooks bar areas and can be quite noisy * Small rooms as expected in an old town area * Nice quality, 4 star * Bathroom small, shower cubicle, 2 different style shower heads * One of those rambling older style hotels * Breakfast in downstairs restaurant good quality but nothing too memorable * Getting a nice table can be difficult as there are not too many. Quite a few very close together. Is in an area that is a bar/restaurant at night
This hotel was in a lovely location, in the old town area, with nice bars and restaurants right around the corner in every direction. The staff were incredibly attentive and helpful, and even gave us toothbrushes when we realised we had forgotten ours! They were always friendly and happy to help us with anything we needed. The hotel's breakfast was also fantastic, with a wide selection of continental breakfast items and also hot foods, and everything was delicious and nicely presented. Very good value for money, would definitely recommend!
