Recently stayed for 3 nights however left rather disappointed. Upon arrival at the hotel we were checked in without a smile or even a greeting. Upon going up to our room we noticed a bad smell coming from the drain in the bathroom which was horrid. Back down to reception to ask for another room (which was dealt with actually better than I thought it would be given the cold arrival), where the issue was obviously known about as there was no question about moving us. We then decided to unpack, and have a shower (we had been travelling for 12.5 hours at this stage) and then decided to get a meal in the bar downstairs. Upon arrival in the bar we were greeted with looks of confusion and horror when we asked if we could eat. The time was 21:00 at this stage and we were told the kitchen closed at 21:30 and we would need to be quick and could only sit outside as they were setting up for breakfast. (website states they are open until 22:00 on a Sunday and the room service menu is available until 22:00 so not sure if they use a different kitchen for this?) We all ordered 3 club sandwiches which we were told wouldn't be possible and we would need to order either soup or salad. At this point we said we'd go somewhere else however when we got up and started to leave we were told they would ask the chef if he would make and exception and miraculously he did, and we got our club sandwiches! Our room faced the front of the hotel which was noisy as we needed the windows open because it was hot. Whilst we didnt so much mind the noise one massive issue was discovered around 10:30 when they light up the front of the hotel. Whilst this may look nice from the outside its not good for people in the rooms as there is a 2 inch gap between the curtains and the window and as you can imagine there is a lot of light let into the room. The bathroom didn't have a shower curtain either so when you used the shower over the bath you flooded the bathroom. The pillows provided in the room as others have mentioned are also awful. Too high and too hard. It should however be noted it isn't all bad. The breakfast is very good and the location good for access to not only old town but central Riga too. The Hotel is kept looking clean.
In tripadvisor it is written that there is a car parking place in this hotel. When we arrived it appeared that for this place you have to pay 15eu per night. So I was disappointed at the very beginning of our stay. Also our room was pointed to the main street, so all night it was noisy and hot because there was no air conditioning. The thing wich I liked most was the spa with pool.
We (two middle aged folk and elderly mother) had a great stay at the Opera and Spa Hotel on a midweek trip Monday to Friday. The hotel is in easy walking reach of tourist destinations, close to numerous bus stops including the airport bus and the central station. Staff we're efficient and polite. We booked two rooms one was much darker than the other looking into a dingy courtyard. The other room looked out on to the busy main thoroughfare. However, the darker room was quieter so it is difficult to say who got the best deal. Both 'superior' rooms were clean and nicely laid out with comfy beds and en-suite bathroom. Water pressure for the shower was low in one room. Beds were comfortable. We didn't use the spa facilities. Buffet breakfast was plentiful and good. Overall, we were pleased with the booking.
No airconditioning in our room. Impossible to sleep with windows open since the hotel is located next to a very busy street. Breakfast room is way to small and very loud and hectic with unorganized staff running around. Breakfast buffet does not meet the standards of a 4 star hotel. Very disappointing stay. We come to Riga regularly, but will not stay at Opera again.
We stayed for four days at the Opera Hotel (I refuse to call it Spa hotel - read my review to know why) and we would not come back again. Here is a short description of our stay: RECEPTION The service at reception was ok - not very friendly but also not ignoring our concerns. ROOM The room was generally alright - the bed was ok (we liked the rather firm mattress but the choice of pillows is not very good). The person sleeping on the right side of the bed had to climb into bed because the sloped ceiling was too close to comfortably walk. We had a superior room on the 5th floor which had no view at all. The window was so high up that we could only see the sky and that was it - this is not sufficient if you pay more to get a superior room. Since the window did not stay open and the air conditioning was not working (reception said because of the hot weather ... last time i checked that's what air cons are for), we were basically living in a sauna. At least we got a ventilator sent to our room - still the air was not very nice. The superior room was spacious. BATHROOM The bathroom was ok. Only condiment was a bath gel & shampoo mix. So in case you're traveling with carry-on thinking you can get everything here, choose another hotel! The shower/bathtub combo has seen better days - lots of stains and tbh I didn't want to try the whirlpool function as it looked dirty. BREAKFAST The service at breakfast was generally too slow and did not see when something was missing. Every day I had to ask about either glasses for juice, cutlery or plates - one time we got dirty plates handed then. The food (especially the cold cuts) was arranged in a not very nice looking way. The selection in general is ok. The bread rolls were quite stale and the coffee is bitter. A cappuccino or latte can be ordered on request if you pay extra. The musli and cereals were good and it's the only thing I can recommend from the breakfast. "SPA" I have no idea who came up with the idea of calling this hotel a spa hotel but trust me, it is not!!! Yea, they offer some treatments and they have a sauna, steam bath and a tiny pool but the whole experience does not help to relax. The changing rooms are small and only have one shower. When I was there it was also overrun with water and quite dirty - the lady at the reception must have seen that as she showed me the room but she didn't seem to care. The pool is tiny (it's more like a whirlpool), has stains on the wall above and when someone turns on one of the fountains it get very loud. Actually it get so very loud that relaxation is just not possible anymore. Opposite of it are the sauna and the steam bath. The sauna is old but still looks ok - it's also not very big though. The steam bath is what killed the experience for me: Lots of little tiles of the steam bath were broken out of the casting and thus there were not spaces were it was possible to comfortably sit down. It seemed like every time we were sitting on some rusty metal bits that should actually hold the small tiles in place. This needs to be addressed by the hotel management as someone could seriously get hurt here. The reception also didn't take care of overcrowding of the spa area - families with lots of loud kids would run around. When we were sitting in the steam bath some guests came in with their cameras wanting to take photos - again this was apparently not addressed by the spa receptionist. The opening hours of the spa are very limited depending on your room choice: the superior room granted us access one hour per day during anytime (standard room is one hour per day between 9-10am I believe). However we didn't need the extended time to use the spa as we found it quite disgusting. Of a four star hotel I expect more than this. And all I can say to end this review is: Don't go here!!
They try to upsell everything, standard rooms are poor, spa claims included from website, in real life you only get 1hour at an impossible time, rooms are too hot, pillows are to hard, noise, crap hotel not worth the 4 stars
Room was great, big and spacious massive bed, good view of the city. Staff friendly and helpful. The buffet breakfast was a good standard. Very good location with a shopping centre just across the road with a supermarket also. Only downside for me was the Wi-Fi, slow and temperamental, I was on the top floor but still.... Overall would recommend and would certainly rebook next time I'm in Latvia.
The hotel in good location, clean, nice, the staff OK, but the room was dark and noisy outside. Food OK. Additional parking fee 15 Euros! Over all OK. In the room price was included SPA with two sauna, swimming pool, interior and cleanness good!
I had forgotten my conditioner and I though it's okey cause in the 4 stars spa hotel there should be for sure conditioner. There was only shampoo and soap. Best thing was that we would have needed right away the ironing but there was only ironing service and there chlothes would have been ready for next day. So no use for that. It was rainy day and we asked rainbow from reception, but wasn't any. Maybe all of them was allready taken. The worst thing was the breakfast whay was the first morning a disaster! I arrived at 9.15 and it was out of the half of the food. No juice and not enough plates, forks etc. The room was so crowded that I almost got one coffee over me. Next morning was a bit better. The price didn't match the quality. Two stars comes from good night sleep and pretty friendly staff. I would go again only if I paid half of the price.
Located well. The staff is lovely. But the hotel is worn. The breakfast was poor. The other big problem is the bathroom door had some opaque glass on it. However you could still see through it. We are a mother and adult son and so this was a problem. You could see if the person was sitting on the toilet or see them (fuzzy) in the shower. So when one of us took a shower the other one had to turn away the whole time. This was inconvenient and unnecessary, a poor design detail.
