Baltic Beach Hotel & SPA

I visited this hotel for party this time (stayed here a couple of years ago) and again enjoyed its great location right on the beach and friendly staff. The thing that should definitely be improved is food. It was plain and lacked taste. But definitely it did not spoil the party!

This is a really nice hotel. It is situated on the beach and has a private area with sun beds and cabanas. The area in front isn't busy though the beach can be. We got an upgrade because one of our party was traveling alone and the hotel staff thought she'd like to be near us. It was a great room with two balconies overlooking the sea. The bed was huge and very comfortable and the towels were big, soft and fluffy. The deluxe room was also very nice, spacious with a balcony and sea view. Breakfast was great with a good selection of hot and cold food, pasties and fruit with a Prosecco for whoever might want it. The spa is very well appointed and there is an enormous indoor swimming pool (for which you need to wear a swimming cap). It wasn't very busy when we visited. There is an outdoor area for relaxing and sunbathing by the pool. There are tea making facilities in the rooms. There is no iron. The wifi is very good.

Arrived to be told that room would not be ready for nearly 2 hours. On arrival in room the requested children's bed was not in the room, then kept awake by a party. Should be 2 star at best, only selling point is sea view. Will definitely return to Semarah hotel next time.

We stayed here two nights in july 2017. Apparently some fairly wealthy tourists accommodate here, along with others. The outlooks of the hotel itself is a land mark from soviet times which makes it very interesting. The indoors are luxurious. We had a standard room, which was good in size and very clean. We didnt use SPA services during our stay. The location of the hotel is truly great, its by the beach and the beach bars, also very close to the main walking street of Majori. I strongly recommend walking by the beach shore near sunset to the Restaurant Orizzonte about 1 km from the hotel, fantastic view there and great food. Also good view from the hotel restaurant Il Sole, which offers italian influenced cuisine. The services in the hotel couldn't be better. Especially i'd like to mention 24/7 lounge bar with fantastic cocktails and highly professional "old school" bartenders. I had the my best cosmopolitan there. The bartender kept us entertained with his stories, such a character :) All in all very good experience!

When we booked our room we choose the hotel from the picture, and were very surprised that our room was not in that main building. To get to our room we had to walk down the stairs from the first floor. There is no elevator, and that is not explained on the site. There was no coffeemaker, and just one chair and a tiny table besides a bed and a TV. If not for the great breakfast they served I would give 2 stars.

As many other reviewers here on TA has pointed out, this hotel does not reach the claimed five stars. Not in an international western perspective. Even though Latvia thankfully has become a modern, free and independant nation an aura of the USSR times remains in this hotel, how international as it may be. Once built for the soviet party high society, the tarnished ”old east” feeling remains under the polished surface and in the walls… It’s a matter of attitude to service and quality and is reflected in a sort of withhold of information. There is a mismatch between what is advertised and what is delivered. The main building is rather spectacular, designed as a stranded cruise ship. This is the part exposed and advertised on the booking sites. However, a large conference building adjoins the stranded ship and is much more ordinary, or more appropriate: bland. And worn. If you take a ”budget room” you will end up in this part of the hotel, with several rooms down in the sous sol area - almost like a bunker. To have a room that is showed in the pictures on the booking sites - which expose the rooms in the ”cruise ship”, you will have to book a superior or deluxe room. Or a suite. Scanning Booking.com and Hotels.com I found only ONE picture of a budget room. And even that picture is not completely honest (see my photos for a true picture). The standard in the ”bunker” is tops on a two star level. Extremely simple furnishings, worn and in general sad condition. Stripped in both appearance, function and amenities: no extra pillows or blankets, AC not cooling (just pushing around the air), dirty carpeting and bathroom in need of renovation. Travelling with friends we were able to do a direct comparison; we had a budget room and our friends had a room in the ”cruise ship”. The difference were more than obvious, but even this area could do with some renovation - especially the bathrooms. The point here is not the standard or condition in itself, the point is (the lack of) information. You have to tell people what they are buying! Even so, I can’t remember staying in a (genuine) five star where the simplest rooms are three stars down from the more expensive rooms. This type of discrepancy is not the trademark of a true high quality hotel. The hotel is huge with large, nearly oversized, general areas which are filled with shops of luxury goods. The spa facilities are extensive, but when my wife asked for a foot care alone, this could not be provided. It was replied with just ”no”. Not ”I’ll see what we can do” or ”I’m sorry madam, but we can instead offer…” or something… There is a swimming pool, but it took us fifteen minutes to find it, because it is semi-indoors and not built for vacation recreation. It appeared to be built more for training of soviet elite swimmers. There are three restaurants and several bar facilities. Restaurants all expose lovely panoramas over the sea and serve fine (and expensive) food. A large and good breakfast was served in ”il Sole”. The private beach area with sun chairs and bar/food facilities is really lovely and the best part of the hotel. As a hotel guest you have free access to sun chairs and towels. Baltic Beach Hotel has a great location on the Majori beach. A location that could be matched with true five star quality - that I would gladly pay for. Because quality never goes out of style…

This hotel is in a cute town on the beach and very well located! The whole town is stuck in the 70s but once you know that, you can really enjoy everything the Baltic Beach has to offer. The front desk staff was lovely and spoke great English, they put us in a very nice ample size room with a partial sea view. What I loved about this place was the Spa, plan ahead and get your services booked as they fill up. The staff at the spa did not seem very customer service oriented, but I think it is cultural... after a few conversations they started to warm up and smile. Don't take it personally as I found them lovely after my million questions about each spa treatment they offered. I also went and tried the salt room which I found really weird but they say it is helpful. The day we were there was cloudy and cold but I can imagine how beautiful it would have been to sit outside on the beach and enjoy the view. The breakfast buffet was wonderful with a lot of great options. I would definitely go back to this hotel for a couple of days.

We chose the hotel because of the location and included a wish to have a room (junior suite) with nice view to the sea. When we got the room we realized that is was located in another building surrounded by other buildings and forest. Hotel home pages just advertise the nice main building at the beach but do not mention that some of the rooms are located in another building. Positive things were well organized transits between hotel and airport and good service.

The best part of our hotel stay was breakfast, beach and staff in the lobby. 5 stars for that, otherwise hotel was worth no more than 3 stars. But locations was exellent and we really enjoyed the BEACH with all the services!

If it is a sunny day just take madrass and enjoy hotel's private beach and if it rains visit the sauna and beaty departments. Good restaurants, good food! Absolutely the best hotel at the sea shore. Recommendation!
