Arrived at 22.30 and reserved an hour ahead so we were glad to have somewhere to stay! It's a clean motel, friendly receptionist. I had to ask for the wifi code. There was a kettle in the room and it was large enough for 2. I had asked for a no- smoking room and so the room smelt fresh. I put the electric blinds down so the room was very dark and I slept well. Breakfast for 9 euros was ok- cereals, a small selectuon of fresh fruit, yogurts, pastries , fresh bread and even green tea. It would have been nice if the staff at reception had shown us where to sit ( we were first going to sit at a table set up for lunch- not realising we had to take trays and eat at the empty tables). There was just one other couple having breakfast- most people had departed before 8.30. We had no problem finding the hotel on our gps- maybe the blocked road problems others encountered had finished..

Reception was very efficient and friendly. We were satisfied with a basic double room for an overnight stay. We ate in the restaurant and found the food freshly cooked and nicely prepared. The waiter was helpful and attentive. Breakfast was a buffet of pastries, cheese, cereals and fruit. All nicely presented. The only disappointment was the wifi was down.

For the last 20 plus years we have, each year, stayed in 6 Campanile hotels; three on the way to a gite and three more on the way back, usually via a different route. This was our first time at Reims east. Firstly, you deserve a gold medal (it was during the Olympics) for finding it, sat-nav or not. We saw the hotel from the motorway, followed the website instructions and then 'route barre'. Of course there were diversion signs, French diversion signs. Seasoned travellers in France will know what I mean. To cut a long story short, 1.5 hours later, with a further 4 Euros contributed to the toll motorway coffers, we arrived! Thank goodness for the very helpful gendarme who lived locally and was clearly weary from pointing lost cars with GB plates in the right direction. The irony of it all was that the hotel was 40 metres from where the route was blocked! We were not alone in this experience as the other 3 English-speaking couples staying there the same night had similar experiences, one taking 2.5 hours and paying 6 Euros of tolls. It is relatively cheap to stay, B&B 59 Euros for 2, booked in advance, but you get what you pay for, eg no A/C but a heat exchange system that takes a long time to get the room cooler. We stayed for dinner in the evening too as had we left we would have struggled to find it again, isolated as it was from the local Buffalo grill. Although nearly empty, our request, on the website when booking, for a ground floor room when translated into French means 'first floor'. This is not an unusual experience and, although many more staff in Campanile hotels now speak good English, the staff training programme still includes the section on 'how to be surly and unhelpful'. In Reims Est there are apparently, despite a polite request in French, no dinner spoons, only tea spoons so eating the breakfast cereal took a long time. Usually Campanile are good value for money but over the years while their prices have gone up there have been changes for the better and some deteriorations. Many now have a/c, some purpose built showers but few offer petit beurre biscuits with the coffee and finding a prawn or shrimp in the hors d'oeuvre buffet, once universal, is now a rarity, while recycled leftovers can feature strongly. Campanile have a green policy with just one towel, when two were commonplace, but saving water is mostly a joke as baths and sinks tend to lack a plug. Soap and shampoo are now provided in dispensers; the days of free toiletries are over! The petit dejeuner is good, though expensive at nearly 10 Euros, with usually a choice of 3 cereals; Reims est lacked the 'healthy' option of Kellogs Country Store. Fruit juice is not watered down but the squeeze your own juicers have gone and along with them the mangled fingers. Potted yoghurts feature too, though mostly plain with a few less popular flavours like banana or pineapple. The same strategy applies to marmalade though apricot and red currant jam feature strongly along with strawberry or raspberry - good for flavouring the plain yoghurt. At Reims Est the room smelled of smoke but this is now a rarity. This year we found coach parties booked in too, though not at Reims; a real challenge at breakfast when 20 plus people are intent on filling their flasks for the day and taking a ham filled baguette away with them for lunch! The next night things were much better at Bethune Campanile yet some aspects remain unchanged; the tables wobble.

The room was lovely, very nice bathroom, but unfortunately lacking in a hairdryer. The wifi is free, though had a bit of trouble logging on and staying logged on. These were not huge problems as was only there for 1 night. Nice enough as a stopover, but perhaps not for a prolonged stay.

Another great Campanile hotel with the friendliest, most efficient staff, lovely clean rooms, comfortable beds and great food. Check in for two rooms took about 30 seconds, everything was ready and waiting for our arrival and nothing was too much trouble.

The beds here were over bouncy and as per always with these rooms they are cold and rather strange with a picture window at the front and the carpet laid from the outside to the inside. the bathroom is laid onto the concrete floor so very cold and the one bar electric fire heating the shower room totally inadequate. The toilet would not stop flushing and I fixed it my self by opening up the plumbing behind the toilet due to the reception being a bit too busy. the heater in the room has a rather anoying flashing light that wakes you up all though the night if you want to be warm. think an converted garage and you'll get the idea

Good bedroom and bathroom, very warm for a night in March. Space for computers and there were coffee making facilities and hairdryer, essentials. A restaurant on site, essential when you have driven 500 miles, who wants to trek out again? A fair buffet and a pichet of wine and local fayre on offer. What else do you need? The restaurant staff were great.

Very good for what we paid, the hotel is brand new with flat screen tv and all mod cons. Breakfast was as good as any buffet type breakfast in more expensive hotels. Great for a stop over Slight noise from a nearby club or something, but didnt really bother us and it was a Saturday night

I stay at Campanile hotels because of their convenient locations and consistent standards of food and accommodation. The Reims Est has recently been refurbished and is now above average in most respects and good value for money.

Convenient for the motorway heading back to England. Recently refurbished so rooms of good standard. Free WIFI a bit hit and miss in the rooms. Only ten minutes drive into the centre of Reims. Friendly staff. Quiet situation.
