Urge you to read this before you book. First two days of our vacation to Cook Islands were ruined because of terrible accommodation. I will highlight the positives as well as negatives (see pictures). Positive first 1. Caryn (owner) arranged airport pickup and a rental car, thanks for doing that. Negative next 1. When we arrived, the beds had unclean sheets with all kinds of stains and spots. We complained and the owner changed it after grumbling about it. 2. Next we found ants all over the unit, cockroaches crawling on the floor. Her response was well this is a tropical island so deal with it. she gave us bug spray to deal with that problem. Not acceptable. She also mentioned to look out for a red crab in the room, she likes to leave the doors open and often crabs get in. Sorry but I am not fond of crabs crawling into my bed when I am asleep. Lots of spider webs all over the unit. 3. The ant problem never went away. next night my kids woke up in the middle of the night because ants were crawling all over their bed and clothes. quite disgusting. 4. Lots of roosters and chickens on the property that will start crowing at the break of dawn. So if you plan to sleep in past 4 or 5 am, good luck because they are very loud and will not stop for several hours in the morning. very very annoying. 5. we were promised free breakfast on the first morning. That breakfast never happened. Instead she provided a can of spaghetti for breakfast. I expected at least a continental breakfast. nobody I know of eats a can of spaghetti for breakfast. 6. The listing said free snorkeling gear available, never found that. 7. The sign outside as well as the listing said wifi available, that never worked. few other guests complained as well. if you want to use wifi, you have to walk half a mile each time and sit outside another hotel nearby to get internet connectivity. 8. Coffeemaker had bugs swimming in the water that was left behind. It appears that the unit had not been cleaned for months. 9. Shower curtain had mildew / mold growing on it. 10. Lastly this is the wrong location on the island to stay at. this property has no beach and is located in the area that is not suitable for swimming / snorkeling / kayaking or other similar activities. We checked out early after we realized that the unit is not safe and is the owner is not going to address these issues. Unfortunately it took us two days to find another hotel, was a busy time on the island and most hotels were full. Sadly this experience ruined the first two days of our vacation on the island. My personal advice - unless cost is your only concerns, stay elsewhere. there are lots of good options. Avoid this place unless you like living in an unhealthy, rundown environment.

Booked well in advance using their web-site and received written confirmation for 2 weeks accommodation. Luckily I had made an error of the arrival date and needed to amend booking by one additional day. Using contact details on the confirmation I sent 3 emails, none of which got a response. Then telephoned from NZ.and amid a lot of over the top bluff from Caryn was assured there was no problem and our accommodation was pencilled in. She promised to call later to get my credit card details even though these had been provided with initial booking. A few days later got email to to say no availability at all. Worst of all lied by claiming we had been "earlier advised". Lucky escape I say, or we would have finished up like other reviewers, arriving to find our accommodation double booked.

Within walking distance to Muri.Beautifull sunrises.clean comfortable quiet accomadation.Caryn friendly informative nothing was too much trouble.its not 5 star but it is just over $100 a night if you want 5 star go somewhere else.highly recommended for a no frills base to explore the islands wonders.

We booked 3 months earlier than our arrival. Yet when we got there Caryn advised that she had double booked and our accommodation was not available. She also told us we hadn't paid yet we had paid a 50% deposit on booking. The good: Caryn had organised somewhere else for us, though she said it was $700/night accom. The owners who we met later said it was $400/night. Not to quibble, cos she had found it as a replacement for us, but she kind of lied about that. She was very enthusiastically welcoming, to the point of suffocation. The bad: our accommodation was not available. Not totally sure why not as Caryn talked the whole time and it was hard to sift the info out from her chatter. She said we hadn't paid, when in fact we had paid 50%. Previous guests have said she cancelled their booking totally. I think Caryn would have done this if she hadn't already processed our payment. Our communications by email were less than satisfactory. Caryn had lots of excuses for this. But I ended up ringing having to phone from NZ to check that we were booked in. Chaotic is the word that comes to mind.

Great rooms, well set up for self catering. Not too big has a great pool for the kids to use as the beach is too dangerous to swim off, a convenience store across the road and a bigger one within walking distance, can also walk to Muri beach night markets (but a bit hot), can park a car. Karyn would do anything for you - you just need to ask. Units regularly cleaned and just a perfect place for a relaxing holiday

The host was very defensive from the minute we arrived, despite paying for a beachfront room with aircon we were given a garden room with a fan. Karen kept repeating the words "not my fault" before I even understood the issue. All I asked was for the room rate difference to be refunded but was told no as she allowed us an early check in of an hour. Also the mosquito screens had holes which is pretty bad given the current dengue fever outbreak. Really bad customer service

The best place to stay with the best hospitality, Caryn thanks for your help booking the accommodation, the prompt and friendly service and the great place to stay. If you want 5 star service you need to go here. My family thoroughly enjoyed staying here, a pool, beach near by and very close to Muri.

Accommodation in Rarotonga is generally expensive and not worth the price, due to the bizarre hotel mafia thing they have going on, but this is one place (perhaps the only place) that is reasonably priced, clean, comfortable, and convenient. Even if I had only stayed here under normal holiday circumstances, I would recommend it over any other hotel on the island (unless you have hundreds and hundreds of dollars to spend on over-priced resort rooms). However, the story I have about Sunrise and the angel of a woman who runs the place goes way beyond just that. Our time at Sunrise was not under normal circumstances. My boyfriend and I work on a ship that stopped in Raro for a few days, and on our last day of shore leave my boyfriend fell from a badly-constructed balcony at a different property and broke his back. The ship had to leave without us, and after a week living in the hospital, in the height of tourist season I had to find us a place to live for a month while we waited for him to recover enough to be cleared to fly to Auckland. We knew nobody in Raro, and with my boyfriend indisposed, I was basically on my own to figure this out. While he was still in the hospital, I booked one night at Sunrise so I could get some actual sleep, and in the morning I told Caryn what was going on and asked if she knew anywhere that we could rent for several weeks that was reasonable, on the first floor, and maybe even included a kitchen so I could cook for us. She answered by rearranging her entire booking schedule, bumping up incoming guests to better rooms and better properties for no charge to them and a loss to her, so that we could stay at Sunrise for the entire time, in a bright, comfortable, clean studio apartment on the first floor, right next to the pool where my boyfriend was able to start walking again. She checked on us daily, refused to let me worry about the money, and went far, far out of her way to make sure that we were taken care of. It was an astonishing kindness that I'll never forget. I could not possibly recommend Sunrise Beach Bungalows more. We lived there for a month and if we ever return to Raro, we'll be coming back there. To my mind, there is no better place to support than one like this. It's been months, and we still think of Henry when we hear a rooster crowing, even on the other side the world. Thank you, Caryn.

We went to this accommodation in the last minute and the host was very accommodating and friendly. She knows the place very well and recommended us restaurants etc. also booked us a taxi for arriving at the airport. This accommodation and the host was a blessing to us as we didn’t have anything booked at that time. Definitely recommend booking here. Cost effective and friendly host. Thanks a lot 😊

Do not book this place!!! They cancelled my reservation 24h before my arrival and I only found out about it because I wanted to check my airport transfer with them. They said they had been in touch with me that my credit card couldn’t be charged and because I didn’t reply they cancelled my booking. They never! tried to contact me. No phone call or email. I couldn’t even book again once I found out because they had already sold my room. I believe they cancelled on my confirmed! Booking because I booked at a discounted rate. I do not recommend this place.
