I was pleased with the Perouse Lodge's staff and the location. However, the cleanliness of the hotel room was terribly unacceptable and not up to par with a 3.5 star hotel. 2 stars would be appropriate. Upon check in, I found poop in the toilet. There was a big piece of cr** just floating in the bowl! I'm not sure how the cleaning staff missed it, but it was an unpleasant welcoming surprise. The restroom was very dirty and smelled of mildew. The corners of the shower had mold and the shower door did not shut properly. The restroom sink got clogged (which they happily fixed right away) and I discovered a cockroach in the room. The TV was a great size but I was immediately disappointed to discover there were only 7 channels and 3 of them were the same broadcast. Seriously!? Only 4 channels? That's less than basic cable. I tried to use the telephone in the room to make a local call (to order a pizza) but couldn't, so I asked the front desk. They advised me that I could not make a call "with my current account" but if I wished to proceed to make a call, that I could "press 0" and dial the phone number but that I "would be charged by the second". I was shocked! I have NEVER heard of a hotel where they charge you per second for a local phone call. Why even bother having a phone in the room? Overall, the hotel was nice but the room was gross. Despite the friendly staff and great location I would definitely NOT stay here again and wouldn't recommend anyone else to do so either.
This hotel was newly renovated. It's clean and comfortable. Its location is also quite good because it is near to restaurants and a bus stop to the city.
