Super 8 Durham/University Area NC2.0 out of 5.0

The price is low and is within miles of great locations. This hotel has earned a solid two stars, but it definitely fails to meet the standards for three stars. The complimentary breakfast consists of juice, powdered donuts, and/or bagels with cream cheese. If you are lucky, you may find an eggo waffle. The sheets were stained, and the hotel room did not feel clean. Although I requested housekeeping, sometimes the room was not cleaned over a multi-day stay. The real benefits of staying here were the laundromat next door (hope you can read Spanish), and a truck that parts out front and sells food every evening. If you stay here, do not expect more than a roof over your head. And I would not stay here without a Wyndham Rewards promotion to lower the price. WIthout such promotions, it is not worth the price.
This hotel is a budget hotel. It is not a Westin for $170 per night. It is a low cost budget place. Not fancy, a little beat up and older. But, what it does have is wonderful and kind employees. They really were friendly and helpful. So don't stay here for your second honeymoon. Do stay for job interviews and visiting!
I stayed a week at super 8 the only issues I had were large gap between bottom of door bugs crawl in and to make sure rooms are cleaned from top to bottom bleed stain on ceiling and mirror
We booked this motel in Durham because it was close to the University but had we seen it first we would not stay. The place was run down and very shabby. The bath was broken, the floor was cracked vinyl and the staff were not friendly. The sheets were worn with holes on them. It appeared to be a place for permanent residents who might have been itinerant workers. It should not be classed as a Super 8.
Terrible do not waste your money with this hotel. Shower did not work. TV did not work. Air conditioning did not work. Not enough pillows. I will never go back to the hotel
It's a shame that our short visit to Durham would have had this big flaw. We arrived at midnight and the only thing we wanted to do was sleeping but right we got the room, the smell of bleach mixed with cigarette smoke was incredibly awful. We also wanted to go to the bathroom and they hadn't supplied the bathroom with toilet paper and towels, so I had to go down, tired as hell, and ask for toilet paper and towels at the counter. The bed cover had a few cigarette burns and the carpet bleach stains. The worst part, due to the concentrated smell of bleach and cigarette is that we spent a really bad night, my girlfriend got an allergic reaction to the smell and I developed a really bad headache. We did not change the room despite the many flaws the room had, but we should have done that instead of complaining in this way.
When we first arrived at our room, the door was wide open. It was after dark and because the room was pitch dark, we hesitated to even go in, given the atmosphere. When we turned on the HVAC, it smelled like cigarette smoke. Maybe the door was wide open in order to air out the room since we requested a smoke-free room. We asked that the room not be cleaned the following day but they came in anyway. We had requested, and received from the front desk, extra towels so we could have a couple hand towels but these were taken when the cleaning was done so we were back to no hand towels again. The beds were hard and uncomfortable. We will never stay here again.
I guess for $40/night, you get what you pay for. Sketchy part of town, room not well maintained. Easy chair was covered in disgusting stains. TV only worked marginally. No chair so I couldn't use the desk. It was quiet and comfortable, and the front desk guy was very accommodating, but it was skeevy.
Had no bath towels, two lights did not work, TV had no sound. Asked management for a credit against my debit card, would not work with me.
Awful neighborhood, homeless people hanging around. Lots of work trucks that wake you up early in morning. Go for breakfast and its all gone everyday.
