Visited Cape Verde with my Husband for a week at the beginning of September. Booked this hotel through First Choice as a last minute deal. There are a number of mixed reviews on here and I can see why. I’ll start with the flight as a warning the flight is 6 hours long and it’s a small plane with no on flight entertainment so just to say bring ipads, magazines etc to keep yourself busy (Or sleep the whole way like my Husband). Once you arrive you land at what I can only describe as a farmers field it is an up and coming country so the airport is still very basic but we had no trouble getting our bags or any issues in the airport. Once our bags were collected we were then directed to our coach for our 5 minute transfer which was very convenient. Arrived at the hotel – yes there is a building site next door but apart from the eye sore when you arrive we didn’t hear it the whole time we were there and it didn’t affect our holiday at all. When we arrived at reception we were told that our room wouldn’t be ready for another hour and a half as we had got the early flight you cant check in before 1:30 this was fine for us as we were able to use the all inclusive service straight away and there are changing rooms if you would like to change – maybe not be great for people with small children. We managed to check in a bit earlier about 12:30 and had a lovely room – nice set up, nice view, modern television, lovely bathroom, beds could do with updating and extra pillows but that’s just me being fussy. There is a selection of restaurants to choose from all really nice and good quality food I would say that it’s a little repetitive but I think that’s what comes with being all inclusive. I would 100% recommend the African restaurant the atmosphere, food and overall experience was brilliant! The Karaoke bar was lots of fun and had some good laughs in there then we headed to Pache which is very quiet but after a few drinks we had an amazing time dancing the night away. The entertainment was okay probably more for kids but I did like the African and Brazilian nights. We went on the Quad biking experience which I would really recommend I was very nervous at first but it was lots of fun and the beach they take you to is beautiful. I’d be very careful of the waves on the beach as they come out of nowhere and knocking people over and pulling them under so wouldn’t say for any young children to go in the sea. Tips – If you walk down the beach about half an hour there is a lovely little cocktail bar Bring mosquito spray as there are LOTS of flies around everywhere (which cant be helped) but the spray seemed to keep them away The earlier you get up the better the sunbed you get but if you do have a lie in there are always sunbeds available just not necessarily around the pool. Overall we had a lovely week and would recommend staying here however I would say that although it is rated as a 5 star I would say its more of a 4 star. Its not got the luxurious feel you would expect from a 5 star but its still a lovely hotel and beautiful country.
this hotel is 5 mins transfer from airport i would recommend a week in this hotel staff always freindly jack sparrow a riot lol the team from entertainment amazing guys always smiling food ok but gets a bit the same the beach lovely but you have to be careful flag system in place for the under lying currents had a fab holiday but dodgy tummy for three days.
Stayed here for a nice chilled holiday with my better half, if you want a sun holiday with loads of energetic water sports then it's probably not the right place. The Cape Verde islands are slow and snoozy, nothing much going on outside of the hotel which is great if you want to wind down from life. The a la carte restaurants are what you expect from the Riu chain along with the buffet for breakfast - top notch locally sourced food. Entertainment was good apart from a really tacky Abba and Beatles tribute act which was more like Steps, yes it was a Tragedy! All in all, good holiday and a nice hotel.
we stayed for 2 weeks it was our 5th visit staff are lovely food was great very relaxing if you have a problem you should tell reception they will sort it, no good moaning.we will be returning next year.
We’ve just returned for a weeks stay. From start to finish we had a fantastic time . I read in previous reviews a lot of unhappy people , so I went with an open mind . First of all it’s only a 3 minute transfers from airport to hotel however you can’t hear the aircraft noise from the hotel. The reception staff get 5* they are the most accommodating reception staff I’ve ever came across and I’ve visited a lot of Rui hotels , I asked if I could be close to my friends that were already there , they asked me to take a seat next thing I actually had the room next door . The rooms are typical of the Rui chain , we had a fabulous view of the ocean we were in room 2176 , which was pretty close to all amenities, we had a huge flat screen tv , a kettle with a range of tea and coffee , air con and a fridge with water, you also have a safe . The rooms were comfortable and clean. Only thing missing is an iron and board , so I would recommend taking your own iron. The restaurants were really lovely I would recommend the Asian the food was delicious , the main restaurant had a good variety of food from a roast with veg to pasta , pizza and a great salad bar , plenty of choice . In other reviews people said there were cats all over , yes there are a few but they don’t wander through the restaurants they are treat more like pets than pests. The bar staff were also great , they had a lot of local drinks but no named brands however there were plenty of cocktails to keep you happy. There was entertainment on an evening with shows and singers . The pool area was clean and well kept , we used the beach which was pure white sand And plenty of sun beds , but be warned you have to get up early as ppl had towels out by 7am . The ocean was always a yellow flag so you could go in and swim , we visited the the Rui Touareg two years ago and the ocean was too rough to even walk in . We loved the fact that you weren’t bothered by venders trying to sell you things on the beach . They had volley ball , football and all types of day activities going on . The weather was 30 degrees with a constant breeze , and warm on an evening . I would return to this hotel and I would recommend to my friends , all in all a great week with great staff and very relaxing holiday 😎 Maureen and jimmy stephenson .
Make sure you take Imodium with you and disinfectant wipes. Our experience was to say the least.......shocking! We were allocated room 157. At the entrance to the room we saw plaster hanging off the wall and on entering the room there was also plaster peeling off. I pushed the light switch on, my fingers stuck to it, there was a large sticky black patch on it, obviously had not been cleaned. The base of the shower was very slippery when wet. The towels stank and had definitely seen better days. I saw the cleaners later cleaning the toilet and wash area then drying it off with our towels, before putting them in the wash. (How come the towels for the pool area did not stink, maybe because they were NOT used for cleaning.) The 3 swimming pools that link to each other were very slippery and slimy at the entrance to each of them. In fact, Steve (the First Choice rep) warned people of this fact in our introduction meeting. This requires some kind of non slip tread, for safety as it was difficult getting in and out of the pool. We ate in the dining room and swam in the pool area for a couple of days and then I got sick. I could not leave my room, in fact it knocked me off my legs for 48 hours and all I could to do was sleep. Eventually I tried to eat something at the dining room by the pools but the burger patties where raw in the middle, the sausages where not cooked through and when I cut into the pork, blood was running out. After that I just ate salad and chips for every meal, I could not trust the meat or the fish. One morning I decided to have some scrambled eggs for breakfast at the dining room by the pool and I was shocked when I saw, green mould running through it. I called the floor supervisor and pointed this out to her, she spoke to the women behind the counter about it, who pulled the dish back slightly. I called the supervisor again and requested it be moved away from the food area as other people could still reach it, only then was it removed. I did go and report my illness and the state of the food to the First Choice reps, who wrote it all down, saying that they would look into this and report it to catering manager. The reps never got back to me and they never gave me a copy of my report. I also reported that my husband's shirt was missing from our room, which I never got any feedback from them either. In fact, then were quite unconcerned about anything other than you booking excursions. We never even went on any excursions, because I needed to be near a toilet. On the last day of our trip my Husband also started with diarrhoea, which lasted around 5 days. I, however still have an upset tummy 3 weeks on. There were several people that got stomach bugs whilst we were there. This hotel does not deserve a high rating and we will never go again. This was my husband's treat for my 70th birthday, ruined! I believe Sal is a better Island to visit than Boa Vista.
Thomson package holiday - Arrived 21/08/17 . From the airport to he hotel is about 5mins away along a cobbled road . The Hotel sits alone on the beach but with a building site to the left which will be a new Riu Hotel . Check in was smooth and easy but remember you have to pay 20euros per person for tax. Hotel room definitely not 5***** with decor in need of updating , had 4 with the problems with room fixtures and fittings 2 sorted after getting the Thomson reps involved . The room fan when switched on was somewhat out of balance and felt it might fall down , repair was to put more insulating tape around the connection pipe to fan , left of for duration of holiday . Air condition not blowing out of ducting , checked by putting tissue in front [ no movement ] told by reception that hotel was on reduced power . We has some really bad heavy showers the first week of our Hols and for being a so called 5***** there is so many parts of the Hotel that is open that the rain gets everywhere so sand bags and towels were put down everywhere even leading to your room [tripping hazards for older people] !. Themed restaurants very good especially the Asian , all seem to have two sittings but when using the later ones always missed the evening shows .Breakfast meal was average but nobody making fresh omelettes that other Riu Hotels do , choice kinda ok . The entertainment was really good by the Hotel Animation Team and gave100% all of the time . Most of the staff friendly and always smiling the odd one miserable but may have had a bad day . Involved with the aqua aerobics every day at 12:00 which was really enjoyable and K2,Jack Sparrow gave us some humorous moments with there antics #topblokes !. Didn't like the bar at pool as children were aloud in the area and with the splashing etc you get pool water in your drink and who was to drink that !. Hotel is spread over a large area and the staff was always working on the gardens keeping it nice and tidy . Not much to do late at night , karaoke finishes at midnight the Pacha nightclub till 02:00 which I popped to have a look , small and roughly a dozen people in . The Beach is beautiful , Flag system operated ,most of the time was on yellow which is Be Careful , some really powerful waves that can knock you of your feet . My wife was confined to her room for 1day with S&D and took 3 days to fully recover, wonder how as she has never had this ever .Overall I would give this Hotel just below a 3*** .
Loved our stay here. Plenty of food choices, options to use the a la'carte restaurants. Heard a few groans that its not 5* however you need to remember your in an under developed country. Staff extremely accommodating. Large spacious rooms. Lots of day time activities. Would definitely visit again.
It's the motto of the island and the staff here will do everything in their power to make sure you don't have a minute of stress on your holiday! If you've stayed at a Riu hotel before the level of service will be familiar. Of course every hotel is different and the emphasis here is more toward self service than waiters bringing you drinks, but with beer (the local lager Strella - not at all bad), wine and soft drinks readily available around the hotel you'll find it easy enough to make sure you stay refreshed. The hotel is good, the staff are excellent and Boa Vista is a beautiful island. See it now before it gets flooded with other resorts.
Just arrived home from a 2 week stayed, which was totally perfect. Our room was spotlessly clean, tea and coffee and hairdryer and perfect air con. Very close to building site, didn't hear a thing Food was delicious, always plenty of choice of fish meats vegetarian, pastas pizza, salads, soups breads, just about everything, not at all repetitive,.waiting staff were really friendly and hard working, with nothing to much trouble. Weather was always hot, but not much shade around the swimming pool area, an unbrella every six beds, could do with a few more, but plenty of beds. Entertainment perfect, you could do as much or as little, always something going on, and really enjoyed the evening entertainment, all work so so hard. I enjoyed the wellness centre, I had 2 lovely massages, and every day they had offers, again lovely staff. They had a beautiful beach. That also has plenty of sun beds, seas quite rough. All areas in the hotel are spotlessly clean, and all staff very helpful friendly and polite. We did two trips with Giggling Gecko, beach Bar B Q, which was a lovely evening and Turtle Tour, which was amazing, but I would check with thomsons if they take infa red photos, as others we spoke to said they could buy photos, we didn't with giggling gecko, and would have loved one of this once in a life time Turtle Tour. All in all a perfect holiday, which I will defineately do again
