I love this hotel! It has so many neat little nuances like the train that delivers drinks in the restaurant, the immaculate rooms and common area, the comfortable bed, the large windows that allow you to hear the trains if you want or not, they are that good. The location is wonderful! It's right next to the steam train depot which transforms you back to a bygone era. The trains take you up to the top of Brocken Mountain and beautiful hiking in Harz National Park. It's a couple blocks from shopping and restaurants in the picturesque city center of Wernigerode. The restaurant has wonderful food! We stayed 3 nights and had dinner there twice! There is a patio out the front door to enjoy a beer or a little nook on the second floor to watch the night settle in. The beer on tap was amazing! I love the staff and the accommodations. We would highly recommend the Hotel Altora to everyone. Request a room in front to enjoy the view of the beautiful hillside and trains, or if you're looking for a silent stay, request a room in the back.
