This hotel was probably grand in it's day. But days have worn on and it has taken it's toll on this hotel. The check in says they welcome you in 4 languages, THEY DON"T only one theirs. The bathroom is old and needs cleaning, plastic tiles to finish around the tub. Some vent in the shower was missing the cover and looked discusting. There was a wedding reception and the check in person thought ( or didn't think) that we would like to be right over top of it. Perfect for a nights rest. This place is barely a 2 star , not a 3 as advertised and definately NOt a 4 that they have on the window. In 5 weeks of travelling, 30 different hotels this was by far the worst and the most expensive. There are other hotels in the area , stay there! Oh and did I mention breakfast, well see photos below. Then go some place else!
Wow, I have never written a bad review. The staff so sweet the hotel is terrible. I'm not sure what the rest of hotels are like in PAU but this one need attention by best western. Staff is amazing. Building. Not so good. .
Rooms comfortable, nice evening meal, staff on the whole friendly. Breakfast disappointing, served between 7.00 am and 10.00 am. We arrived 8.45am, no places laid, hot food not replenished, coffee machine not working. Receptionist did in the end get the coffee machine working.
Nice hotel very well located. Both close to highway and city center. Rooms confortable and larges. A 3 stars hotels very reliable and valuable for the money. A business hotel which is not standardised, this is great. Very clean Good food for diner and good breakfast. I recommand
We were on our way to the ferry from Santander and needed an overnight stop. This hotel is conveniently just of the motorway and easy to find. Given a free upgrade to a large suite like room. Very comfortable with large screen tv and excellent Wifi. Receptionist was really helpful and very efficient. Restaurant is closed at the weekend but we had room service and dined well on Croques Monsieur and a good bottle of wine. Breakfast was great with a range of hot and cold choices. Recommend this hotel if you're travelling in south west France.
We stayed on night in May 2014. The main reason we picked this hotel was because we stayed on points and it was technically free. The hotel had its heyday probably 30 years ago - although rooms were pretty decent size for France, the decor and everything around was very tired. Beds were decent, washroom was fairly clean and functional. There was free wifi in the hotel but we could not connect and there was no help available. The hotel was practically deserted and the restaurant was closed - which based on other reviews was a good thing. The hotel is OK for one night but I do not think I would suggest anyone staying longer. The guy at the reception was OK and fairly helpful - we speak French and that helped - but he seemed really really bored. To visit the town - which is a must - you need to drive about 12 to 14 min.
A hotel in a quite and lush setting. Pleasant spacious rooms, friendly staff and decent breakfast. The hotel even has some charms. Service in the restaurant is friendly but a bit clumsy. They claim the restaurant is gastronomique but that's too pretentious. Food is ok though. Over all this place offer much better value for money than most of it's competitors in and around Pau. Only stay here if you have your own transport.
We stayed at the Palmeraie with a group of people supporting a horse in a competition nearby. The location was excellent. The staff could not have been more helpful. The reservations were constantly changing and they managed to accomodate us all. The rooms are spacious and clean with a large bathroom seperate loo and dressing area. The food was good but the restaurant is not open on Sat and Sun evenings. Breakfast is buffet style with a good selection....however I would never advise full English in a French hotel...when in Rome!!!! Remember breakfast is not included and is quite pricey ...so make the most of it. The staff are excellent but at breakfast the plates etc were slow to be replenished. Overall a very enjoyable stay and we will return.
We stayed here with a group of friends when in town for the nearby horse trials, and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. The rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable. The staff were friendly and helpful - especially the lady at reception, who couldn't have been more helpful. If the excellent steak that I enjoyed in our room is anything to go by, the food is also very good. The hotel was in a peaceful location although easily accessible from the motorway, and had plenty of parking space. I would definitely use this hotel again if we ever return to the area.
Drove to Pau from Perpignan mainly on the D117, a highly recommended route with wonderful scenery, beautiful small towns and Cathar castles. we will return but not to the Palmeraie! We chose this as an overnight stop on route to Northern Spain and it was a good location and easy to find just off the E80. A reasonable greeting, the room was gloomy, hot and the aircon did not work. We asked for something to be done about the aircon and got a shrug of the shoulders. Asked for a different room and was told there were no alternative rooms available. This was strange as there appeared to be only two or three other people staying at the hotel. So we had to stay where we were. The room was not particularly clean, I found the cut up pieces of someones credit card on the floor. Had a beer, the most expensive I had had in France by a country mile, euro 7.50, my wife suggested I should have asked the price before ordering, I did not reply. Dinner was Ok and breakfast was poor. Had a poor nights sleep, no aircon and as the room was on the ground floor could not open the window because of noise from passing traffic. Parking was free but not secure. I am sure there are much better places to stay in Pau.
