Stayed here 2 yrs. ago and then returned again recently as couldn't see anything that looked as good comparing price with location and overall value, and we figured better the devil you know! But it's not a devil and did not disappoint and was just as we remembered it. Good, clean rooms with a great location by the beach, which is paramount when booking this area. Staff nice and food pretty good. One of the bar guys remembered us which felt good and he said many people return here. It's not a big posh hotel and it doesn't have luxurious facilities, but comfortable rooms and a welcoming atmosphere, yes. Thanks again Whala!
This hotel is really casual and idea for disconnecting. The staff do a good job of being kind of quiet and out of the way while keeping things running behind the scenes, it hardly feels like a hotel and more like a private villa in a resort, we felt we were in our own ocean view home just the two of us. That, including a gym, spa, private chef...all the things we wish we had in our home! The negative to mention is that checking out took a long time because we were confused by a charge and needed it explained and, but everything else were positives.
First i must say: I'll be back... This hotel is rigth by town, markets, pharmacies, stores at walking distance. But if not needed going outside the resort is a NO,because is a all inclusive.. Buffet is good, pools are great and el cortecito beach is rigth outside the hotel , there is snack bar and an all inclusive drinks except for premiun brands, open to late hours with music... My room was big, good A/C, flat TV, good shower for some reason salty water, nobody there can't explain why but they offer regular bottled water. Facilities clean, gardens well maintenanced.. Nice crowd..must pay for wifi and i didn't see any live entertainment.. No free airport transportation..but you can't beat their prices for an all inclusive in punta cana..Going back soon!!
I stayed in Whala hotel in mid May for a few nights over the weekend, I have very good memories and would return to the hotel as an affordable place to stay with nice grounds, clean areas and good service. Front reception staff were awesome, I wish I could remember their names. The location is beautiful and quiet when we stayed there. Really reasonable prices for drinks and room, like I said, good memories.
This hotel like any other ones had its down falls but overall I would come back. As a Spanish speaker it was fairly simple to get around and communicate well with all the staff including the bartenders and security guards. There were a lot of European tourists which was very unexpected! Once you are at the beach there is a small hut where you can get lunch items all afternoon long and a bar where if you have a wrist band, it is endless drinks. The wrist band has an additional cost but it is well worth it because you get endless drinks your whole stay, buffets for breakfast lunch and dinner and there is an additional restaurant that you can dine in with reservations which again its included with the wrist band. A lot of sales men on the beach that can be a bit harassing but if you stay within your area and use those beach chairs, the security will sometimes be nice enough to tell them to leave you alone. The hotel itself because it is so close to the beach has salty water in its bathroom including the showers. Very unexpected. Overall its a couple steps away from the beach, staff is crazy friendly and welcoming and souvenir shops and the market is just around the corner.
My review continues to not get posted with the full story, so I am going to cut out a lot of the details and keep it vague in hopes that it will get posted to save a woman looking to book a trip with another woman from STAYING AT THIS RESORT. I am a young female, well travelled, who stayed at Whala Bavaro with my best friend, another young female well travelled. We fled the resort at 2 am after only 12 hours of being there. I was DRUGGED by staff. We were put in a room with no proper locks, no phone, and 4 ways to break into our room. There is a prostitution ring being ran out of the "Yoga Studio" that is connected to the resort. You have to walk down a sketchy alley past locals who are selling drugs to get to the beach bar. Raw sewage is being pumped into the ocean from the resort. If you are going here, keep an eye on the women/girls you are travelling with, do not leave them alone. You should just avoid this place all together.
The photos of the hotel are accurate, the absolute best thing was the beach and they have beach service, I had a constant michelada in my hand all day sharing tapas dishes. Our room provided more space than we needed so we felt very comfortable in the room, the internet access is not free, its cheap to subscribe, everything in the hotel is cheap, but its not included. A lot of European vacationers actually I was surprised, nice guests overall. Breakfast is always free including hot items but it ends early so suggested to rise early in the am!
My girlfriend and I were pretty much only looking for one thing; to relax at the beach. I have been in the process of buying a house this year, so I needed to keep this vacation in budget by staying at an all inclusive hotel but didnt want to sacrifice on comfort and wanted to treat my girlfriend to a nice weekend and Punta Cana seemed like the best destination. We wanted to go to Saona island one afternoon and the hotel arranged it on a catamaran, the water is idyllic out of a magazine, I recommend making time for this day trip. The hotel was relaxing, there are three pools so if one got loud or kids arrived, we moved on to the next without a problem and chilled there. The food was fine for a weekend, breakfast is actually very good and fresh, the rest of the day we ordered guacamole and drinks, didnt really have a proper lunch any day. Good hotel, no major sacrifices, would return.
Terrible experience. Hotel staff sometimes charge you for using hotel phone, sometimes it is for free, everyone makes up their on prices on spot. Everyone is so desperate for the tips, while the service provided is borderline rude.
Great hotel for making most of the amazing Bavaro beach. Not a luxury resort hotel so don't expect it. Clean, friendly and comfortable, yes. Staff nice particularly guy on reception. Food good and loved the freshly made omelettes at breakfast! Spend lot's of time on the beach and there's a small hut for drinks and snacks which was brilliant. We enjoyed it here.
