Stayed 10 nights but had good time here. We stayed in a twin room. Was simple in way it was decorated and not fancy at all but beds pretty comfy and more importantly clean sheets and towels. Cleaners left fresh towels and cleaned around too and shower was great but water was salty. Booked room only basis so don’t know about food at hotel but can say drinks we had at bar were always good and barman was very friendly. Reception staff also very nice to us. It’s very close to beach so liked that. There are lot’s of small typical touristy cafes and bars and restaurants all over the place, so easy for eating out but hygiene not great. Didn’t spend much time in hotel as wanted to make the most of our days but it did us really well for what we wanted. Beach is amazing but the coconut vendors are a pain. 10 nights too long, make it 7 and you'll enjoy it more!
Upon arrival the hotel set the tone by being extremely welcoming and generous, checking in was fast, they were expecting us, and they escorted us to our room with our bags, friendly all throughout the stay truly. We did have a minor issue with the telephone line when we got there, but we told them and left to lunch and it was fixed as soon as we were back from eating, honestly the service is wonderful. The beach is just a few feet away, its a smaller hotel in the sense of I dont think they have many rooms, there are not thousands of people here competing for beach beds or buffet lines, thankfully. I would not hesitate to return or recommend it.
I did the all inclusive option to make thing easier and after extensive traveling I really think its the way to go if the hotel offers it, again found good value overall in doing it at this hotel over Christmas. Its a really quiet place which for us was a plus because we just wanted to disconnect and relax at the beach, the room was decent but clean. Overall a four start time.
I have NEVER before been steered wrong by TripAdvisor...weell, there's a first time for everything. Sunwing and this resort tried their best to suck the joy out of our vacation... The ONLY saving grace for this resort is PEDRO. If you find yourself at this resort with no assistance/English speaking help (like not even minimal), find PEDRO at the front. He may just redeem your trip. From check in, we were given a "very good room" (ROOM 1302 - don't let them assign you to this room - felt like a bit of a scam to get you upgrade?) by Ernesto at the desk, in which the bedside table lamps did not turn on and the toilet did not flush (there's also a safe with a skeleton key you can carry around for a $15 USD fee/week). When we requested a room with a toilet that flushes (in Canada we are accustomed to that) we were charged an "upgrade fee" of $70 USD for the week. The staff were rude and unhelpful - but almost always it seemed that they simply spoke no English at all...like AT ALL. One day, the main bar's special was a Long Island iced tea, I walked to the other pool and the "bartender" looked at me like I was an alien when I requested the same. I wandered the length of the bar looking for the menu to point out my selection and he just looked at me quizzically. Finally, he pulled it out from behind the counter so I can point to my choice. The drinks are disgusting as they add sugar packets to drink mixes, unnecessarily. They also serve them in the tiny plastic cups that collapse in your hands. There IS NO TIKI BEACH BAR as pictured on the Sunwing website, the snack bar is away from the beach, between the hotel and the beach, and is often run by one non-English speaking worker. Buses to the mall were $6 USD per person each way, and $10 USD each way for a taxi - a mere 10 minutes away (though we were told that the day after we were scheduled to leave they would be offering it for free as no one was using it). There is also no ATM available, and the staff offer no smaller bills for tipping - on the off chance a staff member actually understands what "service" means - in our case, we hoped to leave a large tip for PEDRO but because we had no cash on hand, were unable to do so (a very sad ending when you consider how valuable it is to have a staff member that actually cares about your experience). I consider myself a budget traveller, never having stayed at a 4 star resort - I have been happy with 2-3 stars on either coast of Mx and in Cuba, with no complaints. As I mentioned, if you find yourself at whala!Bavaro...find PEDRO if you need help. He is a gem, and if you find him, give him a good tip for me too! But better to stay elsewhere if you can.
One of the worst place seen in my life....full of desperate Russians, here only to spend some days for show their Caribbean experience...really very desperate, especially women they appear as drogue's seller!!
Me and my wife we have been all over the world and we stayed in all kinds of hotels from 5 stars to even 3 or 2 stars but this hotel is by far the worst for treating us like they did and fooling us in the worst way. Yesterday we arrived after long flight from Europe plus other connections we had before from Dubai where we live. We came to check in and it was after 3 pm which means our room should be ready and do the check-in immediately. First they took our passports and tried to convince us and sell us an “offer” to book with them more nights (as we only booked 1 night because we had planned something else for the rest of our time in Punta Cana but that should be irrelevant as we ALREADY payed for 1 night in Whala Bavaro and we should had get what we payed for) anyways we kindly rejected the offer and then they told us to wait in the lobby, and the receptionist were laughing and talking to other people after like half an hour I came back to the reception, he’s like just wait few minutes they’re preparing, then went back to the waiting and after 10 minutes the guy called us and told us that BECAUSE WE’RE STAYING ONLY 1 NIGHT that he’ll give us an “all inclusive” free of charge and for this they’ll have to change us to other near hotel and we accepted thinking that wow they are so nice and they are upgrading us to all inclusive for free, they are just shameless liars. Instead they took us to a very cheap hotel with a very very basic room that didnt even had shampoo (i mean which hotel dsnt have this basic stuff, even the cheapest hotel has some cheap small bottle of shampoo) and we only had breakfast included and the breakfast was a small chicken sandwich and coffee!!! Literally thats all they were serving people separately on a tray....it was quite horrible we never encountered something like this even in the cheapest hotels in Europe or Asia or US. I mean is ok for the people who they went there by choice and they got what they payed for but that was certainly not our case!! The price for this room and “breakfast” was much less than half of what we payed for, which was a 1 night at Whala Bavaro so they stole our money! Everything was a scam!! We strongly advise everyone to not book with the WHALA BAVARO they are thieves and their service is 0!!!
Nice place to stay and had no issues at all. Decoration not great but very clean everywhere we went, especially the rooms. Breakfast was good with a decent selection and always found a clean table to sit at. Staff very friendly and helpful but not very professional. We’d stay here again as the location is very good and overall it is a great base.
I liked this hotel, I've had plenty of vacations in the DR before both as a couple and with friends, Im always looking for a good deal, and I safely rate this hotel a four out of five. The room is a straight five, really big and well located, at least our room. The pool is big and usually empty because people prefer to be by the beach, but better for us because there were enough empty pool chairs every day and at most hotels you have to fight for them. Everybody was really nice and they tried hard to make us happy.
I want to let you know of a man named Anatol “Jacky” Faesta Fosten that looks for work in animation in all of the hotels. He rapes men and women in every hotel in punta cana. Jacky raped me in whala bavaro. He stole my money and left me with a black eye and multiple bruises. He is very dangerous and is always looking for work in punta cana because he is terminated from every hotel. He is very friendly with multiple men and women that visit punta cana. He is a danger to hotels. I am from Russia and I will never return to punta cana again. Jacky is dangerous and I strongly advise you to watch out for this man. He will rape the clients in your hotel for all of their money. Please take this message into serious caution and consideration. This is a medium size hotel and not great amenities but the location is very good and its like a guest house as you get to know the staff very quick and they helped with everything they could. Punta Cana is different to what we imagined in a good way and for a relaxing vacation can not be beaten.
