We were greeted by a friendly proprietor and given a nice room which was a separate cottage close to the beach. The cottage is actually facing a rock hill which is accessed by stairs to reach the beach. The room is comfortable but was not cleaned well. The counters were covered with dirt and dust and the ceramic cup in the bathroom had hairs in it. One of the lights was out in the bathroom which made it quite dark. The room is more like a cabin at a camp site. We had rented a dvd but the player did not work properly and we had to watch it in black and white. There are only two restaurants in Punakaiki...a tavern and a breakfast place. We had a good breakfast at the breakfast place which is right across the street from The Pancake Rock area.
The hotel staff is very nice. The room is clean and neat. We just don't like shower streams--too small. The kitchen has everything we need.
