El Canario By The Lagoon

2.5 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

We stayed for 5 nights at El Canario by the Lagoon. It was in a great location; nice neighborhood and very close to old San Juan and close to the highway to get to other locations on the island.

Clean and well-maintained hotel. It is somewhat basic, but we consider it a good value for an economy traveler.

our queen-bed room was tiny, the bathroom had no tub, just a small shower, definitely a low-end place--we booked it for just one night between flights. the biggest problem was that there was only 1 person on duty at the desk, answering phones and giving restaurant suggestions, etc., to other groups, and so we had to wait a long time just to check in.

A quick walk to the beach, near lots of restaurants and shops. Awful breakfast, though. It would be so much nicer if there was just some yogurt or a better selection of fruit. The room was fine - not a very comfortable bed, and the fan/air conditioning was really loud. The staff was extremely nice and helpful. Overall, a decent way to save some money, but bring your own protein for breakfast otherwise you'll get a sugar crash before you even get to the elevator.

1st - website says free parking, when we arrived $15.00 per day 2nd TV was not working and they could not fix it. Pillows were flat, and beds were uncomfortable.

The hotel was what exactly said it will be in the discription. Walking distance from the beach, parks, and restaurants. Awesome area and friendly people I would definitely stay there again. I wish it had a better balcony view. Other than that it's a good hotel for the price its given. Especially if your out and about and just go to the hotel to sleep.

Great location, nice staff, definitely will return,

This is a simple quaint hotel. This hotel is centrally located to Condado. You get great value for the price. Just don't set your expectations high to that of the chain hotels.

The hotel was clean and the staff was very nice. This is in no way a 3 star motel. I paid extra for a view of the lagoon which was mostly obscured by the Comfort Inn next door. The neighborhood was questionable with homeless sleeping close by. The breakfast was minimal coffee, juice, rolls and had to go out to eat breakfast. Doors are the old key type. I found the ad for this motel extremely misleading.

Its a value hotel, Great location! Its 5 minutes away from san juan by car 10 mins by walking.

My experience at this hotel was one in which my needs were met, and I was in somewhat comfort. The view I had from the balcony was not one to boast about. I was facing another building which discouraged my spending time on the balcony. My hotel experience had no problems and the staff was very helpful in all manners.

loved the staff at this Hotel, friendly, courteous, smiles all around. even to tell me not to smoke in the rooms. they were so nice. great breakfast at a good price. highly recommend for the budget conscious. not the largest or most luxurious, but a good hotel at a good price.

check in was a breeze room clean towels walk clubs

Location is perfect for proximity to eateries. Room was ok but beds were too spongy and pillows way too soft. Cleaning was sub-par, but the worst was the rudeness of the desk clerk! As I was checking out another clerk tried to charge me although I was already pre-paid.

The room was not great. The female receptionist was very helpful but there was a nasty night concierge who accused my husband of trying to get an extra dollar when he told him the soda machine had swallowed his quarters. The TV was older than the hills. However they were nice enough to keep our luggage until our evening flight.

Two nights and it was good clean room small but nice the staff good people we slept good no noise I enjoyed it.

We chose this as a cost-effective hotel/base-of-operations while staying in San Juan for about a week. It is a pleasant 40-ish minute walk from Old San Juan. Nice beach across the street. Sufficient restaurants in the area. It worked for us.

My overall experience was really good. Parking was a bit of a hassle but the staff did a good job. One of the front desk staff at night was very rude and had a terrible attitude. He should be fired!

El Canario by the Lagoon is conveniently located in the heart of San Juan with shops and restaurants and beaches within walking distance. The hotel staff is friendly and helpful. The room is clean and the bed is comfortable. The hotel has free parking for its guest which can save you a bundle of money. The free breakfast is fantastic with enough food to eat like a king, with hot coffee, juice, cereal, fruits and lots of pastry. I would highly recommend this hotel to your family when you are visiting PR.

I was walking distance to the beach and that was all I needed. The only issue I had, was when I arrived on May 25,2014. The front desk stated they had NO record of my reservation. So I called Or-bitz and they resent an email to the office and when I awoke the next morning all was right with the world.
