For an existance of 15years hotel is kept in good condition. Staff and food are very good. Hotel grounds are beautiful and activities plenty and fun. Only issue with is bed but would return.

The best thing about the hotel are the attentions of the staff, how many people are helpful and willing to help you and make your stay in the hotel something unique. The food and variety should improve.

Very disappointed on how the 700 dollar hotel credit is used. It's basically coupons off certain things. Also if you sepend 100 dollars you get 15 off the 100. I don't understand where the 700 dollar hotel credit come in but it's pretty much false information provided on the site. I personally called the hotel before booking to ask how it was used and was told it can be used towards excursions that was a lie. I find out when I was there that was not true. RIU chains of hotels are usually very great but I was disappointed in this. I find that there is not much to do in the hotel. Must do excursions to keep yourself busy.

A bit dated, food was terrible and not very fresh. We had lunch and dinner there the first night but ate out all others times. Breakfast was okay. Bad beer and wine - better to order bottom shelf mixed drinks. Our room smelled musty and the smell outside by the tennis courts smelled funky so we couldn't get fresh air

Food and drinks available pretty much all day. Hotel bed was very uncomfortable

Love the hotel, staff were wonderful. Hotel food were delicious. Definitely will come back with my family.

its ok for the $$$ there staff only cares for people that tip very well if not yours a** out

When we research resorts for our family vacation we go by places we have stayed and word of mouth. We we chose Riu Bachata in Puerto Plata, DR we chose it because some of my family memebers have stayed at the Riu before in Mexico and Bahamas. Our experience at the Riu Bachata was completely dissapointing. The service was horrible, the food was terrible and when you question things all they told us was that we went out of season. Between the bad service and horrible food add the fact that 2 days we didn't have hot water to shower, when i called to ask what was wrong they seemed upset that i was questioning them. we were there 7 days and I can guarantee we won't be going back. Even when we spoke to management they just shrugged everything off. There were very few staff members like Elizabeth, Eridania, Luis, Daniel, and Francisco that were very nice and trying to make our already bad stay a better one. This resort is giving DR a terrible name. I am Dominican and was appalled by the service. You definitely don't get service like this in Punta Cana, DR or La Romana, DR. People smoke everywhere, they don't have a designated area for them so if you don't smoke you will be if you stay there. The last thing that happened to us was someone robbed my brother and sister in law. They stole their belongings from the pool side and with it the key to their room (the keys are not card access so we couldn't swim with them). The only good time we had was when we did the Paradise Island tour (Out of the resort) and we also went out to eat twice to a local restaurant (Out of the resort).

Hotel falsely advertised WiFi. You can only get it in the lobby and even that did not work often. You had to go to the bar to get your own drinks which were completely watered down. When I asked why they Manager stated it's their low season. No hot water for 2 days. No AC for 2 days. Night entertainment sucked. No food after 10pm. We went with 11 people and have stayed at RIU before in different places this was the Worst hotel ever.

I saw other reviews saying this same thing and I thought that these were probably just picky guests but I was terribly wrong. Horrible vacation. The first night we couldn't sleep because we had no air conditioning. After much arguing and researching with other guests about which rooms had air we got moved to another room. However they would turn the air off every day from 2am-2pm. So you would wake up early in a horrible sweat in 90 degree weather. The restaurants did not have air except Italian so the food that was just sitting out in the heat was making a lot of guests sick including my poor husband who was sick for 6 days of our vacation. We reported this to management and they didn't care. The 2 restaurants that you had to make reservations with would stop taking reservations once their list was 1/3 full claiming that their was no more room. You would walk past the restaurants at night and it was only 1/4-1/3 full. The food was exactly the same for lunch and dinner every day with just a couple different dishes and different seasoning. WiFi never worked on our phones. It was $5 to use the Internet in the lobby for 1/2 hour. We were constantly killing cockroaches in our room. First night we killed 6 and the management didn't care.

The staff was great especially at check in and in the main dining room. One of the waiters, Ramon, remembered my family from 2 years ago. They were happy to sing Happy Birthday to my 13 year old. The room was clean but the AC could have worked better. The kids had a great time in the pool and on the beach.

With every hotel you have to take the good with the bad. With Riu it's mostly good a little bad. Food gets repetitive. Would love an authentic Dominican restaurant, after all that's where it's at, right?! All staff extremely friendly especially Ramon the food server. Rooms are nice however the bed was very uncomfortable. I would definitely stay there again. I highly recommend taking the Safari Tour!!! Best tour of my life!!!

Overall the stay was very good. The pools, swim up bar, beach, and cleanliness were great! The italian restaurant was good but the steakhouse was closed 2 out of the 4 nights we were there which was disappointing. Entertainment in the evening was very good compared to other resorts i've stayed at (there was a Michael Jackson show, a magic show, and a dance show for 3 of the 4 nights i was there). You can also use the Riu Merengue pools and restaurants since it is one big property but im VERY happy we stayed at the bachetta. The bachata was where everyone was at and very entertaining (we walked over to the merengue to see how that one was and you could hear a pin drop at the pool). Overall I was pleased and especially for the price I would recommend this resort. Oh and a helpful hint there are shops that separate the 2 resorts .. always negotiate the price!

My boyfriend and I just spend a week at the Riu Bachata and had an amazing experience. In Summary: 1. The location/beach are amazingly beautiful. Clear, blue water and amazing mountain views on a private beach. No surfing and a little rocky, but perfect for what you'll need. There are a lot of trees on the beach, so while sunbathing is not difficult, you do have to be strategic when picking your spot. If you like the shade, you're very much in luck. 2. The hotel is EXTREMELY clean, and the staff is wonderful. 3. When the resort says it's open 24 hours, it is also including restaurants/bars that are located at the neighboring resort, Riu Meringue. However, don't be discouraged by that because it's completely walkable They're literally right next to each other. 4. If you're looking for a wild and crazy nightlife kind of place, this is not the resort for you. We had the most amazing, relaxing time. We drank, ate, went to the beach and the pool, went to the shows and live music, and were usually back on our balcony by 1am. Although a bar is open all night, there wasn't much going on over there, which was fine with us. The disco tech that's available here is a total joke. There were never more than 8 people in it when we checked. 5. The casino is a little sketchy. If you've been to Vegas, don't bother. 6. The food was very good. There were things that appeared multiple days on the buffet, but we never had any trouble finding delicious and different options. After all, you don't need to eat everything available on the buffet at every meal. There are also specialty restaurants where you can make dinner reservations that serve totally different meals the Caribbean and the Italian were excellent. The snack bars are exactly what they say they are. There may be a few basic pasta dishes available, but it's primarily fruit and American snacks, like hotdogs, hamburgers and nachos. Tasty though. 7. The touted "Caribbean Street" is overstated on the hotel's website. There are shops, but they carry mostly the same things and the cashiers do a bit of hassling/bargaining, which is annoying. There are sometimes street vendors there, too, who were much worse. We tended to avoid Caribbean Street when possible. 8. The entertainment consisted of some group activities throughout the day, a kids' performance after dinner (which we did not attend), a show at 9:30pm and then live music after that until midnight/1am - you can attend these events at both resorts. We had a great time at the shows. It's not broadway caliber entertainment by any means, but the dancers are very gifted and put a lot of work into the shows. There was also an "Ideal Couple" game show that was hilarious to watch. The live music is all in Spanish, but it was still fun and people were dancing. Cons: 1. The biggest problem with the beach is the amount of lounge chairs available. We were always able to find two, but had to search for 5-10 minutes a few times. The resort should invest in more chairs. The same problem persists at the pool, but worse. People get up insanely early - I'm talking at 6am - to put their towels on chairs to reserve them, even if they don't intend to sit in those chairs until late afternoon. That's incredibly annoying and something I think that the resort should address, but again, if you take a little time, there are chairs to be had. 2. The main breakfast buffet stops at 10am. There is breakfast available after that, but not with anything hot like eggs or pancakes. We felt that it should have at least been open until 10:30am. 3. The pools close at 7pm. This wasn't a deal breaker for us, but it would have been nice to have been able to go for a late swim.

Hotel has amazing views. Room with ocean view is definitely worth it. Great staff. For the money, couldn't beat this trip.

Staff went above and beyond to make your stay as fun as possible.

Clean, neat and serene. Great for families but boring for singles. Very friendly staff.

entertainment could have been better but overall it was a good stay

This is a great place to spend vacation. The staff is willing and able to meet your every need. Good food, clean room, good beach, excellent pool. This was our third visit to this resort with no problems at all.

The staff at the Riu Bachata are wonderful, they are every where and they keep check in up on all the guests to make sure we are having a good time.
