Wow! What a great hotel! From booking through to check out, our whole experience with this hotel was excellent. My wife and I were celebrating our wedding anniversary and we let the hotel know. Not only were we upgraded to a suite with a working fireplace, but a jacuzzi and a basket of gifts awaited us as well. The basket of gifts included a signed Anne of Green Gables book (signed by a direct descendant), a bottle of wine, chocolates, a welcome letter plus a personalized itinerary from Ian (the customer experience concierge). The room was immaculate! From the bathroom to the bed, we could not have asked for a cleaner room. Everything was set up perfectly! The staff were friendly and nothing was too hard - special thanks to Valerie for looking after us so well. In addition to this, the included breakfast was outstanding. Although it is continental, there is also some hot food which is included. On top of this, each evening at 5pm was happy hour - a complimentary local beer or wine - with some cookies. Fruit was also available through out the day. We used the hotel as a base to see the Island and found this to be the best decision. The only change we would make, is to come back in summer when the weather is warmer. Although, there were some benefits - like, we were the only tourists in town! Plus, through out April local restaurants have a hamburger competition, so there are approximately 85 different ‘top quality’ burgers to try ... we managed 4 in three days. But when we come back, we will definitely stay with our new friends at The Great George Hotel.
After a week and a half of touring Nova Scotia and PEI, we have one final night before departing - so I splurged and got the family rooms at the Great George. What a nice hotel! From the moment of walking into the lobby, and relaxing in the lounge with fresh hot cookies and coffee/tea we knew we were in a place 'like home'. Our bed was amazing. The staff very helpful in providing advice and suggestions for our visit to Charlottetown. All in all it was a great way to cap off the trip.
The Great George is a very unique hotel in Charlotttetown, PEI. I got to stay in one of the adjoining "houses" that was simply beautiful. Like renting an entire home. Hotel offers a happy hour every night with beer and wine. If you are looking for a nice hotel in Charlottetown, and do not need a pool or other extras, it is perfect! (one small, very small gym in the basement)
I am so impressed with the Great George. I travel for both work and pleasure and have stayed (and even worked for) many of the big chain hotels, but none can compare to the ambiance and service of the Great George. The room was so conducive for working that I didn't even go in to the office the first morning! It was better than home! They even cleaned the snow off my windshield! I loved it and will return!
We were delighted to spend two nights at the fabulous GREAT GEORGE Hotel in September 2017. It was our splurge of the Canada 150 trip, but after staying at AIRBNB's, this was a wonderful treat in every way! We were checked in by Anna and found her very friendly and helpful. There is a 4pm informative tour of the area that we enjoyed. This is a large property composed of various historical houses, under the banner of the Great George Charlottetown's Historic Boutique Hotel. We stayed in a lovely ground floor large and spacious room that was both elegant and comfortable. It wasn't inexpensive but was well worth it. The price included a $25 food voucher that was good at severe nearby restaurants,a social hour with generous complimentary drinks and cookies (yummy!) and a very good breakfast with hot and cold selections. The atmosphere of the hotel was like being in a family with caring and attentive staff. The lobby was cozy and comfortable with many places to eat ones breakfast in a social atmosphere where we met other couples. This Hotel beats the big chain hotels hand down! It is in a very central location, close to the waterfront, bars, restaurants, shopping, galleries and the great Watermark theatre, where we enjoyed the Million Dollar Quartet. Charlottetown is truly a lovely town, worthy of being the birthplace of Confederation. We loved our time there!
I stayed at and held a seminar at the Great George and have nothing but the very best to say about the whole team. First the Room: everything was seamless. I had reserved by phone a few weeks before and the room was ready for me when I arrived. Because I was a repeat customer, there was a welcome basket of goodies waiting for me in my room that was a welcome gift. The front desk team were extremely knowledgeable and friendly and the property itself was so warm and friendly. Breakfast was great all mornings I stayed and was provided in a nice little breakfast area. The Meeting room is excellent. In my 30+ years of holding meetings in Hotels, rarely have I found such completeness and ease in getting it set up the way I want it and creating a great learning ambiance. Ian is an absolute pro at what he does.
This is my new go-to while travelling for business in Charlottetown!! The location is spectacular, can easily walk the downtown core from here with lots of top restaurants within a two block radius!! It is a wonderful establishment, super well furnished!! Only downfall is there is no loyalty reward program...
Stayed for one night while on business, and it was an incredible experience! The location is excellent - walking distance to multiple pubs, shops, and restaurants (within a one block radius). The staff were warm and friendly. I arrived just as they were closing down their complimentary cocktail hour, but they made sure that I still received a drink and some delicious fresh baked cookies (made fresh at the hotel). The suite was absolutely amazing. I stayed in the main floor of one of the houses, and the attention to detail was very noticeable. Upon walking in there was soft music playing, the fireplace was running, the two person jetted tub was ready to use (complete with extra towels and aromatherapy bath salts). The room was also stocked with water and wine available for purchase, along with wine and bar glasses. The suite was divided into two main rooms - the bedroom/bathroom area, and a living room - both containing flat screen TVs. The suite also included a bar fridge, writing desk, king sized bed, and lots of closet space. The only thing to keep in mind, is this is an old, historic building. You will hear creaking and rattling of pipes and floors here and there. Something to be aware of if you're a light sleeper. However, I expected that with it being an old, character building. The history and charm of this hotel makes it quite the unique stay! I would absolutely recommend this hotel - whether for a romantic getaway, or a visit to the heart of the city close to great dining and tourist sites. Would definitely stay here again!
From the moment I got there I fell deeply in love!! The hotel was fabulous! I loved the quaint entrance with the open cosy lounge area, with free drinks and snacks on the side available 24/7. Just when I thought it couldn't get any better we were shown to our rooms, I was blown away! History dotted round the rooms and hallways made the place feel special. Beds were massive and very comfortable. Staff were very pleasant and welcoming. Breakfast was a small collection but catered for everyone and most importantly very yummy! The hotel is well located close to both the harbour and the centre of town. Lots of places in walking distance to eat and shop. You wouldn't have to ask me twice to stay again! Strongly recommend staying here when visiting Charlotte Town PEI!! Felt like home, truly miss the place!
Stayed here overnight on a weekend business meeting that my fiancee was in. Check-in went well, desk lady was very nice. Parking can be a pain in the rear to find, especially in winter but I noticed they offer valet parking if you struggle to find a space so that was all good -- thankfully didn't need it. Room was a little on the small side -- which was fine because these homes date back to the early 1800s so that was to be expected. I didn't find a whole lot of towels or bathroom amenities compared to other places. Shower didn't exactly work well when I was there, pressure wasn't constant/comfortale. Try to get a room on the second floor of a house because the lower level rooms are almost against the sidewalk/street and you can hear the noise -- they do provide earplugs if you're a light sleeper. Beds were very comfortable. They did a great job retaining the charm of the buildings while adding modern touches. There are some nice touches -- they provide cookies, cocktail hour (that we didn't get to partake in as it was the weekend). Breakfast though was nothing to write home about...lacking some selections unless I missed something. The biggest thing that bothered me though was the lack of accomodating a late check out. Check out is normally at 11:00. We first called the desk the night before and they said to request it the morning of. When we called back, the latest they could do was noon and any time beyond that incurrs a half day charge. I've never seen such a policy, even when staying in boutiqe hotels. We needed it seeing our lunch got pushed back to 1:00...we work lots of hours during the week so the extra sleep we greatly appreciate the extra sleep we can get. I'd hate to see if someone wanted to go experience a few pubs in Charlotteotown and didn't get a lot of sleep coming home at 2:00 AM or later and having to be out by 12. It caused us to rush getting ready in order to check out at the required hour, which put a damper on the stay seeing we wanted to relax a little more and really messed up our plans. Rate was $155/night on a corporate rate. I'm not sure I'd return at that rate if I can't fully relax on the little down time we get.
