We had a fantastic stay! The service was in believable! Our suite was beyond extravagant and historic. We will definitely return to the Great George. Best weekend ever. Gift basket and free happy hour and continental breakfast. And to top it off your car will be cleaned of snow in the morning. Superb service!
I stayed here based upon a recommendation from a friend. The Great George is a excellent hotel The service is second to none. They offer a happy hour from 5 to 6 each day (the owner also owns a nearby microbrewery) My room felt more like a B&B than a hotel I will definitely stay here again
I stayed at The Great George whilst visiting Prince Edward Island on a work trip. Ideally located in the heart of Charlottetown, a short walk from the harbour and many eating and drinking choices. We were greeted with a glass of wine and check-in was friendly and smooth in the heart of the property where there was a lounge with roaring fire, comfy chairs and sofas and a baby grand Piano displaying signed photos of all their famous past guests. This is where a light breakfast is served in the mornings. There were also brollies and maps available which was a nice touch. The property is made up of 21 houses and my room was located in Wellington House upstairs. This house had a large lounge with a huge table for socialising and my room was at the front of the house overlooking the lovely church. I had a seating area with coffee machine, a 4 poster bed, a writing desk and flat screen tv. Air con units are the big old machines but they do the job and the out pipe is hung out of a window. This is a character property, and therefore windows are not double glazed so you do hear street noise and pipes run through the rooms meaning when someone in another room runs a tap or takes a shower, you hear the water running through. If you are a light sleeper and need absolute silence, then this is not the place for you. If however you are looking for a central hotel with lots of character and charm, this is absolutely the place for you and you will be sure of a warm welcome!
This was one of our best hotel/Inn experiences. The attention to detail, the courtesy and service extended were perfect. And ,even though it was our first time, we immediately felt like we were "home". Congratulations to the family owners for imparting a philosophy that rings true with the entire organization. We want to come back .
I have stayed several times at the Great George, its a very unique property located very central to all there is to do in Charlottetown. Great service, great value its perfect if you do not want to stay at a more traditional hotel.
Nicely decorated rooms that are very clean and comfortable. Our room (401) was in a corner and had lovely reading chairs to our daughter's delight. The staff is very helpful and courteous. The breakfast is scrumptious (loved the pumpkin/spice oatmeal!) as well as the afternoon snack. The added touch of a free drink between 5 and 6 was unexpected but very welcomed...especially when enjoyed in that lovely room full of comfy couches close to the fireplace! And the towels for runners on each floor is a nice touch.
This hotel impresses with its atmosphere, architecture and sense of history. We found really good things about the Great George that were let down by irritating, seemingly minor things that added up to spoil it a bit. We stayed in the Cundall House building. On check in front desk went through an over rehearsed speech at alarming speed which left us rather bewildered as to where and when everything was; the person failed to see the pained look on our faces. However Cundall House proved to be quite and comfortable, although venetian blinds don't work for privacy and concerns by other reviewers over the air ventilation machine proved to be well founded. One simply could not sleep with the unit operating and the windows didn't open, leaving little choice. Not to worry though as there was always happy hour which is a very welcome feature, although you shouldn't arrive too late as staff verified that the chip supply is apparently limited to those who were early. The breakfast was very good, although the staff had trouble keeping the orange juice and coffee going. On a practical note, it is rather awkward to east breakfast on low tables while seated in huge leather armchairs! The area does fill up quickly and that spelt difficulty when trying to eat with your travelling friends. It's a nice idea, though! As others have noted, the hotel is well located and has quite a degree of charm. It's a different sort of experience that may well be worth a try.
We arrived to find out that we’d been upgraded to a suite. The room was basically a one-bedroom apartment! Modern amenities in a historic building. Shops and restaurants are s five minute walk. One of the best hotel experiences I’ve had in my life.
My family visited Charlottetown for the first time with a toddler and a newborn and we could not have asked for a better stay. From the moment we walked into the lobby, it was just impeccable service throughout the entire stay. Traveling with a young family, they had generously offered to upgrade our room to the presidential suite, which was simply stunning. The lady who checked us in and out at the front desk (apologies for forgetting her name), was friendly and extremely helpful showing us our room, where to park, and nearby restaurants and attractions. The breakfast was simple yet of a very high quality and our family really enjoyed it. Our girls loved the home baked cookies during happy hour!! Staying here felt like home to us and we didn't want to leave! We could not have asked for a better stay and would definitely be recommending this hotel and staying here again in the near future and every time we visit PEI!
This property used to be called the Inns at Great George, in case there is any confusion. This way exceeded our expectations with its 5 star style amenities and service. It is an amazing property with about 54 rooms, each unique, in one of about 8 historic properties that are all roughly continguous. I liked the traditional decor in ours--I guess some rooms are quite contemporry. So many extras in our Queen Suite including a small kitchen, a fireplace, a sitting room, and a washer and dryer--plus comfortable tasteful furnishings, a wonderful modern bath. Plus there are many extra things in the main part of the hotel like a social hour with beer and wine, fresh baked cookies, and a historical walking tour. We heard about the mission of the owners to rejuvenate the historic town of the city from what had become run down to a vibrant tourist area anchored on their properties. They also own a handful of restaurants in old historic buildings. It is a treasure. Plus so well located. Plus off street free parking. I can"t imagine staying someplace else. The people working here could not be nicer. Plus it is amazingly reasonable. My only quibble--I wish the breakfast were better--fresh fruit, and hot oatmeal would be nice (they had something called overnight oatmeal made with yogurt that tasted raw and sour).
