My family has visited and stayed at Furnas Lake Forest Living not once, but twice and will continue to stay here annually for our two week end of summer vacation. Upon arrival and chec in, I very loudly told Miguel at the front desk I was home! We stay in the Chestnut house, which used to be the milking barn before being converted to an absolutely lovely two story, 2 bed, 2 bath guest home. Last year I rebooked for this year before leaving to come back Stateside. We had such a wonderfully relaxing time, we just loved it. The house will sleep up to 6, and has a full kitchen. We usually stop at the large supermarket in Lagoa to buy snacks, breakfast items and beverages. My son (age 9) and I love the salt water pool and would visit daily. We also enjoyed walking the property. There are cows, horses, and bees! Being in This area we felt truly at home and my workaholic husband was able to decompress. Yes, this may not be for everyone. It’s very rural, and in some opinions out of the way. But for us, having this quiet time is just simply amazing. As you can tell we are huge fans. Highly recommend for anyone looking to truly unplug and relax. If you are looking for hustle bustle, or staff to cater to your every whim try one of the hotels in Ponta Delgada or downtown Furnas. This place is meant to be close to nature and for quiet relaxation. We were able to visit the whole island as we rent a car and feel comfortable seeking out our own adventures. Don’t miss Poca Dona Beija hot spring pools just a short ride in to downtown Furnas, go as much as possible! Really. Thus whole island is AMAZING! Again, this resort, is just wonderful but be ready to u wind the old fashioned way. Quiet time, glasses of wine on the terrace, and tranquility. We will be returning again on our next visit without question. The Moniz Family

This is a very pretty property situated close to the Furnas Lake. Quiet and modern. Rooms are of adequate size and nicely if simply furnished. Considering the price, you would expect that breakfast is included. An extra €15/person is quite a lot especially if you are unlucky to arrive towards the end of the service - almost everything is finished and not replaced. Also, the area is prone to be rainy so if you build a hotel in this location, with their rates, you at least make sure that the rooms stay dry, that the floor drys after it has been cleaned, that there's an umbrella to move from room to breakfast/dinner. We were unlucky with the weather and by the time we left all our luggage was humid - even items we did not wear. Finally management seems to be environmentally conscious but it wouldn't hurt to cut the branches of the trees next to the paths - quite difficult to pass, with or without your luggage; and impossible to stay dry when raining.

Although the place is ok and very green, this hotel is very overrated and extreemly overpriced. The staff is very nice and helpful, but the apartments are old and just very basic amenities are given. It's allways raining in Furnas. Allways. Avoid to stay here.

My husband and I have just stayed at Lake Furnas Forest living for 3 nights during our visit to the Azores. We had a studio apartment with a small kitchenette area. The location of this hotel is amazing it is so peaceful and private it feels like you are in the middle of no where. We absolutely loved our stay at the villas we would have stayed longer however it was booked the rest of the week. The villas is also in very close proximity to Lake Furnas which is really nice and means you can walk over to the lake straight from the hotel. There is private parking and a restaurant on site. We tended to spend most of our time in Furnas village which is a short drive away and is a lovely place to wander round with lots to do! The villas pool was a nice addition too. The staff at Lake Furnas Forest Living are really friendly and welcoming. We were also able to check in a little bit early the day we arrived which was great! It is probably worth mentioning however that we had some problems with the payment for the villas going through. When initially making the booking on booking.com and when making the final payment the day we arrived their card machine did not seem to work and it took several attempts to go through properly. This is just something to be aware of. Also it would be useful if the kitchen had a few additional amenities as it was tricky to cook dinner with what was provided. You can pay for breakfast on site but it is an extra €15 per person. We did feel that the villas were slightly overpriced and that this price should really include breakfast. Overall we had a wonderful stay and loved the location of the villas!

This hotel is in a wonderful location being only 35 minutes from the airport, 5 minutes from the small town of Furnas and directly opposite Furnas Lake. The grounds are lush and green; the trees are full of birds and the ponds provide homes for frogs. The accommodation is tastefully decorated and furnished and the bed is comfortable. The kitchenette is well equipped. There is an outdoor pool with sun loungers and each room has a covered ‘outdoor’ seating area. There is plentiful free parking and there are small supermarkets in nearby Furnas. The site itself is quiet but unfortunately we had noisy families staying in the neighbouring property which spoiled the ambience a little for us. The internet was intermittent, eventually being put out by a storm. The Reception staff were wonderful; they were very friendly and very helpful and really enhanced our stay. Nothing was too much trouble. We were a little disappointed by the food we had while staying there. They provide various versions of cozido – a slow cooked stew cooked in the hot earth at Lagoadas Furnas Lake. The ingredients are taken to this location for cooking and then collected. You pre-order this and it is served in your room. Our dining table had been nicely set up for us and the meal was delivered. The image in the advertising shows a rather tempting stew with chunky vegetables. Our vegetarian version was mainly gravy with some beans, tomato and cabbage. It was tasty but not filling. It was served with rice and bread. At E24 each, it felt a little overpriced. No doubt the meat version, at the same price, is more filling and perhaps better value for money. One night we had a meal in the hotel restaurant and were again a little disappointed. It is not cheap, especially as the dishes are served tapas style. The dishes come out as and when they are ready, rather than all arriving at the same time. This felt more about managing the cooking of dishes in the kitchen rather than being a deliberate serving choice, especially as the waiter made a point of saying they didn’t serve dishes as starters and mains. The restaurant is justifiably proud of the fact that the ingredients are home grown; they even have their own cows who provide the milk! There were 5 veggie options on the menu, but only 4 were available (even though we had given advance warning of being vegetarian) so choices were limited. The breads and different flavoured butters were delicious, as was the pasta in fresh milk with cheese sauce. Some of the other flavours weren’t to our personal taste but alternatives weren’t available so we went with them anyway. We experienced overly long waits between one dish arriving and the next and were seated facing the kitchen door so frequently saw the washing up being completed. The lady doing is was very smiley! Sadly, overall the meal didn’t meet our expectations. We did enjoy our stay but it wasn’t without minor disappointments.

Just returned from a 7 night break at Furnas Lake Villas. What a wonderful location. The villas were clean and comfortable. The staff, especially Miguel, were extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing was too much for them. Amongst other helpful acts, they telephoned Terra Azul in Vila Franca do Campo for us and arranged a wonderful whale and dolphin watching trip. Other highlights of our trip to Sao Miguel were Sete Cidades, the Gorreana tea plantation and Terra Nostra gardens. Furnas itself is a friendly and interesting town. We had an amazing holiday in a truly magical location. Many thanks to Miguel and his friendly, helpful staff.

First of all, I would like to stress that our experience here isn’t representative of the rest of the island. Everyone else we met has been nothing but welcoming, warm and friendly! We booked Furnas Lake Villas for our babymoon after reading all the great reviews and seeing the pictures on their website. All the communication up to our stay was very good and we even told our friends and family that we were so excited to stay here. What a big mistake that was! This is by far the most disgraceful behaviour I have witnessed on holiday and these people should not be working in the hospitality business as they are rude, patronising and cannot take any constructive feedback from their guests. Their replies to some of the less positive reviews on here only seem to confirm this! The windows of the appartment we booked had a lot of dirt on them which ruined the “panaromic views” they so keenly advertise. In addition, as I’m 7 months pregnant I really wanted to have a nice sofa in the room to rest on. Unfortunately, the sofa was not the one advertised on the pictures and had metal arm rests and just looked tired and uncomfortable. We then realised we could use the sofa bed function instead but unfortunately this didn’t seem to work. As we spoke to the front office on our way to get food, we mentioned the dirt on the windows and that the sofa that didn't seem to work. The lady confirmed the sofa was broken and that the dirt couldn't be removed as they were permanent paint splatters (!). She mentioned other guests had complained about this too. She then offered for us to stay in a different appartment closer to the pool. We said we would get some food as we were very hungry and tired after our flight and then discuss the different options. Upon returning to the villas this seemed to have caused a big issue with the owners. By this time they had cleaned the windows and I still cannot understand it took us to point out the dirt on the windows in order for them to think of cleaning it! Like I said they even told me that other guests had complained about this but did they not once think about just cleaning it? It seemed so illogical. They were incredibly defensive and one of the first things the female owner said (to a heavily pregnant guest) is that we could get a refund and go somewhere else as they didnt’t want people to stay here who weren’t happy whilst laughing in my face (!). Their treatment was intimidating and they made me feel very uncomfortable. The male owner at one point said “he didnt have time for this” and just walked away. I still cannot believe that pointing out two relatively minor issues caused them to be so defensive and rude to their guests! I definitely didn't not want to stay there after being treated in such a disgusting manner so we took them up on their offer to get a refund and find somewhere else. At this point 95% of the island accomodation was already fully booked but I would have rather slept in our car then stay with them. To process to refund they first insisted that we had to pay the transaction fees which just made the situation even more ridiculous but then luckily they changed their mind after pushed back. Unfortunately, they couldn’t process the refund on the credit card and promised they would make a bank transfer and that this would only take 24 hours. They also promised they would send us a confirmation of the transfer. We had no choice but to leave with good faith believing they would honour their promises. Long story short - It took 6 days to get a confirmation the transfer had taken place back during which we called multiple times and sent emails. It is an understatement to stay that their behaviour put a huge damper on our holiday as we not only had to find last minute accomodation but also were worried about receiving the refund during our time. This is a great place if you are happy to pay for an OVERpriced campsite otherwise I urge you to book a different place.

This is a wonderful place to stay if you're looking to truly unplug. The property is truly beautiful and secluded among the trees, but very close the Lagoa which allow you to truly enjoy the lake and the hot springs/everything in the town of Furnas. We stayed in the Cedar Villa and it was really lovely, very carefully designed, modern and comfortable. It does get pretty chilly at night and we found the room to be a bit cold (we weren't able to figure out if there was any heat or not), but luckily we had packed layers to bundle up a bit more at night while sleeping. This is a wonderful place to really unplug as the wifi does not work well in the rooms itself, so you will really feel like you are away from it all. Since it is set so far into the trees and near the lake, it's perfect for a quiet getaway but not necessarily centrally located if your aim is to easily explore the island. That being said, it still was pretty easy to get around to other areas as we had a rental car with us. The restaurant on the property was delicious and very charming. The staff is super kind and friendly and do their best to ensure everything is very comfortable for you. At times though, it did feel that they were a bit strained with only a few people trying to do many things for different guests, but overall it was really lovely and they even made us a really nice picnic basket of breakfast for our last morning because we had to leave very early for our flight. Definitely recommend this place as something very special and peaceful!

There are beautiful details and surprises around every corner. Welcoming and accommodating staff, fantastic food and atmosphere. We were a large group and the experience was seamless. Whether you are thinking of going for a romantic retreat, or a family reunion, you'll be happy you chose the Lake Villas.

The place itself is just amazing, nestled in the middle of green areas typical of Sao Miguel Island. But what makes this place an absolute gem are the people working there. Owner, staff, chef, ...everybody is extremely kind and professional but at the same time relaxed and motivated in sharing with you any type of info concerning the island, the lodge, their jobs and many others insights. We had the chance to taste twice the restaurant menu (before its official opening) and food was just absolute amazing. Fresh and perfectly cooked, with all products from the island or even directly from the garden. Manuel, the owner, took us to some special places around the lodge and gave us a incredible honey experience followed by a nice aperitif with local products (and the honey we extracted)! I do not want to write more... book some nights there and jump into a plane! You will not be disappointed! Thanks again
