We were looking forward to our few days in Porto Santo and after our evening crossing on the ferry we were ready to get to the hotel to relax, unfortunately we arrived to a lukewarm welcome where it seemed all our questions we asked the tall guy behind reception he was not wanting to talk and gave us no help at all! We went to our rooms and found them nice and clean with a balcony, yet the promise of free wifi did not seem to reach the rooms which was a shame when I had some work I wanted to finish off. In the morning we went for a walk around the hotel and was shocked to find that the gym that had been portrayed in the website was not what we saw, the pics of a full gym with lots of equipment was very bare and sparse! Then a look to see about the sauna and jacuzzi we found a room full of boxes and barely able to enter into. So off to breakfast we went and this was great with amazing friendly waitresses and a lovely view to have breakfast. The rest of the stay was good, the location to beach and shops was ideal just a shame that what was promoted to us for a 4 star seemed to have been taken away! One little thing we found the beds were made every day but we seemed to be lying in the sand from the night before so they were not properly changed! We highly recommend a massage the lady was amazing and left us feeling super relaxed!!!
The location is by far the best feature of this hotel, slap bang on the fantastic sandy beach of Porto Santo! The hotel is basic and dated but the rooms are large, beds very comfortable and the place is spotlessly clean. The pool area and sun terrace are well kept with plenty of sun beds to go around although you will find some residents placing towels in prime spots before breakfast! The hotel benefits from a great beach bar , restaurant and outside dining where a great breakfast buffet is available. You can walk into town very easily where you'll find a mix of local restaurants and bars offering a great selection, our favourite was the fish stew at Restaurant Baiana in the square or The Panoramic who will pick you up by courtesy mini bus if you want to venture out further. Highly recommend walking the length of the beach to the bar/ restaurant at the far end where there are sandy coves. Hiring a car for the day is also possible very simply via the hotel and well worth doing, especially stopping and walking up Pico Branco for some stunning views of the island (take water and snacks!) Only real criticism of the hotel was a very uninspiring information pack which didn't really tell you anything about the surrounding area or activities, be prepared to do your own research unless you're on a package holiday. It also didn't explain that you need to activate an account at reception in order to use their bars/restaurants and have it added to your bill, we got rejected several times before realising the problem. As pointed out by other reviewers the spa area is actually closed for refurbishment , we were told it was going to be another 30 days before it re-opens by an embarrassed receptionist! Overall a solid, comfortable hotel in a great location, there are others offering more modern facilities but these tend to be further up the coast away from the town.
Let's start with the positive: Big hotel room, with a nice balcony. The reception staff and the lady on the pool bar were very helpful and friendly. Negative: Many of the facilities that the hotel "advertise" are not open. Gym, Jacuzzi, sauna, sports bar - everything closed. The restaurant/pizzeria by the beach is terrible. The food takes incredibly long time and is completely tasteless. Maybe the worst restaurant experience I ever had. After 35 minutes waiting for one spaghetti Bolognese and one tagliatelle with Turkey, and no explanation, we looked for the waiter and she said that it would take 3 more minutes, because they were making a fresh Bolognese. When it finally arrived, it was very disapoiting to see and taste what was on the plate. That was surely not a fresh Bolognese, and a tagliatelle with some dry Turkey and onions, should never take 40 minutes to be served.
Small, nice hotel on the beach. Absolutely friendly and helpful staff. Parking at the hotel.Great and varied breakfast, mini-bar, good restaurant, nice beach bar. Clean and beautiful beach. The rooms are a good size and have balcony or terrace, and it is very quiet.
We had a package that combined return 1st class travel on the Porto Santo ferry with, 3 nights bed and breakfast at the Torre Praia Hotel. Our room was very comfortable and clean. The breakfast buffet was very good. Whils ee were there, the hotel was the venue for a wedding reception. The tables were beautifully presented and other floral decorations were set out in such a way that enhanced the whole setting. At no time did we as, hotel guests feel we were in the way. So well done to the hotel. The only thing that let the hotel down was the painfully slow check in. We arrived late at night along with many other guests who had also been on the ferry. The hotel would have known how many guests were arriving from the ferry but there was only one receptionist available. Must try harder in this respect.
Were staying at porto santo. This is a very good hotel. Personell is friendly and professional. Hotel is clean, rooms are nice. Hotel is directly located at the beach and 10 min walk from city centre. Centre has restaurants, supermarket, museum and rentalshops. Good hotel for beach holiday.
This hotel has the perfect location. It is still within the village and also the first on the beach. If you want location, this is it. The restaurants and the bar are right on the beach, the room are very comfortable, the food is great and the service even better. O lot of people might not have heard of Porto Santo. It is 40 miles from Madeira, it is very small and the big difference is that is has a big, wide, amazing beach as good as you will find in the Caribbean. If you decided to try a visit for a few days, this is the hotel to stay. Enjoy.
This hotel has all you need for a holiday : clean rooms, balcony, restaurants, etc ... but where it really shines is it's location : it's literary right at the beach! The breakfast area is one step away from the sandy beach with an amazing view, and it has a beach bar/restaurant. It's also just a few minutes walk away from the town centre, where you'll find a grocery store. The internet is a bit slow, but so is life on Porto Santo, I didn't mind at all ;-)
We stayed one night as part of a package with Porto Santo Ferry line. Over one day from Funchal ( ferry leaves on the dot at 0800 and returns daily on the dot at 1800. Some forgot that, we observed !!) The hotel is spotless and the staff a delight. There is a beachside bar where we had drinks and also the breakfast which was excellent. As a hotel ? Functional. Somewhat dated though immaculate - kinda 1980s/Abba !! Bedroom immaculate. Reminded us a bit like a Premier Inn. Nothing wrong with that. Use them often in UK. Would stay again for a short stay for the position and great staff.
Returned for a second visit, mainly because of the excellent location right on the beach. I rang the day before our arrival to ask for a room overlooking the east side of the hotel, spoke to a very pleasant receptionist who said they would try to help us with our request. On arrival we were given a poolside room on the ground floor which was much better than the room we had last year, having been refurbished recently. The facilities of the hotel are great, the breakfast buffet is great, catering for most nationalities, the pool and beachside bar made for a very pleasant stay.
