We spent 5 nights at the Quality Hotel Portus Cale and were extremely pleased with the hotel. It is situated in a busy road (Avenida da Boavista) but in a very pleasant area of Porto. There is a very nice patisserie next door and restaurants nearby which are inexpensive but have good standard of food. Reception staff are very helpful and attentive to your needs. There is a bar next to reception. We were in room 705 on the top floor facing away from the main street. The room was larger than normal and very clean with a mini bar and looked as though it had recently been decorated. One or two pictures on the wall would have made the room less bare, however, and there is no shampoo or conditioner in the bathroom but there is shower gel... but a lovely room overall. Breakfast was very good in a pleasant room with hot food, cold meats and cheeses, breads and cakes, cereals and fruit juices etc available. Reception will order a taxi for you; about €8 to the centre and about €25 to the airport. Overall, a great stay!!! We will probably return next year to this hotel as Porto is a beautiful city.
We stayed two nights on a Cosmos tour of Spain and Portugal. The hotel was attractive and the room was clean and fairly large. The hotel was located on a main street and was a ten minute taxi ride to the historic city center. The wifi was very difficult to sign into as we were told that too many people were using it at the same time. The breakfast was mediocre as there were no nuts and very little hot food.
With windows open, the room was noisy because of the main road. with windows closed it was hot (we had a room at the 6th floor). The AC was noisy and had to run all night. Although we booked room with three beds, we got two beds and a trundle bed. There are no shelves for the clothes in the chest, we could not pack out our clothes, had to keep them in the suitcases. However, the room was clean, service was good, staff friendly and helpful, the breakfast excellent.
Quite typical of a hotel/chain of this magnitude. It feels like what it is, an unloved place simply there to make money out of each transaction and no effort placed to make your stay in any way special. Been there before the refurbishment and just now after, still you get the same lame services simply with a facelift. Air conditioning units that don't work toilet roll holders placed in the most impractical place, if you are not a bidet user... a breakfast that is varied but barely good offering coffee you'd be best to run a mile from. Four stars the most certainly don't deserve. Past that, cheap clean spacious rooms, no doubt value for money?
We found location very good. From the airport you have to take a metro and go out on stop "Casa da Musica" metro costs about 2 euros and card and all necessary information you'll find in the airport information center. So at the check-in guy was really nice and helpful. Actually all male front desk staff were very kind. Hotel has 2 elevators but take a note that both are quite small. Hotel has their own bar in reception and they have happy hours, unfortunately we didn't use it. We stayed for 6 nights in room 705. Room was very clean, big and comfortable. Bed was awesome a lot of pillows. Nice view from the window. Minibar is available and we found it quite cheap, comparing to the Europe countries. Bathroom was spacious and extremely clean. Thanks for cleaning lady's for keeping our room so clean every day! The only minuses we found: not enough of electric outlets. One close to the bed and 2 more in the room. So for two girls and modern technologies it wasn't enough. And AC is quite old. Breakfast we found quite poor. But steal you can find something. There's: coffee machine, very bad juice, yoghurts, Different types of bread, meat, chess, fruits. Some warm dishes and cornflakes. No boiled eggs, no salads... breakfast staff always smiling and positive. About location: there's some nice places for meal, shop is available close to the hotel and drug store as well. Reception can always arrange a taxi service for you but we used it like 2 times only and it wasn't expensive. To go to the ocean you have to take bus 502 10min and you are there. Going to city center we used subway, but we changed 2 metros for our destination. But still it took us only 10min. So all in all I liked this hotel! Thank you! :)
Splendid hotel out of the citycentre about 30min traveltime by metro (500m). Modern room with bad and douche, safe, bar, hairdryer. Tasty breakfast and splendid roomservice. Good airco. Good and cheap restaurant at the next door.
Just spent spent five days at this hotel. It was good value and the place is clean and comfortable. Really enjoyed it with helpful staff and a clean good size room on the sixth floor- well insulated and slept very well on the comfortable beds - the room had Lux soap and Dove shower cream and all very clean - tea/coffee making facilities as well. Situated on a main street and a bus stops very near which goes into the main Porto town one way and the beach the other way. Breakfast area was small but nevertheless very good and again clean- good food to start the day. This is a nice hotel and a good base for visiting Porto - good restaurants nearby and I would definitely stay here again when next visiting Porto- which we will as a fantastic city to relax in.
Clean and modern hotel with everything required for a short stay.Very small breakfast area but good selection of food. Our only gripe was that we were charged 7 euros for using the safe in our room ! Usually this is a refundable deposit given back when you return your key. Shame it spoiled our stay.
enjoyed my stay here , larger room clean and bright , nice view over main street and no noise from the road ..great breakfast and small bar area for a few drinks .supermarkets close and beautiful chocolate shop next door and bus that goes into the city centre out the front ..
Numerous sights to see in wonderful Porto. The Majestic Cafe where old style service is still given, an experience not to miss. The beautiful bookshop with its winding staircase. The tram ride along the river side with the wonderful bridge across to the other side of Porto where the many distilleries of port can be found. Much preferred this destination to Lisbon. Would love to go back.
