The resort is a little tired, malfunctioning lifts, uncomfortable mattresses etc. Check in was a nightmare, there was a long queue and it took quite some time for the Manager to come out of her office and help expedite check in. It still took well over 40 mins to check in.We were a group of about 50, the resort was advised well in advance of our arrival as a group, however there appeared to be no planning to facilitate checkin. Lone visitors were caught up in the queue as well.My booking was done directly with the resort and yet they insisted that I had done an online booking. The club's arrangement was a breakfast inclusive rate but I was told that my rate was not including breakfast, although I had upgraded to a bay view room. So overall not a pleasant experience. However Shoal Bay was awesome!
Family of 5 in a 2 bedroom 2 bathrooms, kitchen full equipped accomodation, with a double sofa bed in living room. Clean and in great condition. In shared facilities 2 pools (1 outside) and 3 spas (enclosed lap pool and spas great for winter) also a gym available. Restaurants 1 bistro for dinner and another restaurant for breakfast and lunch, both good options. We are part of a Vacation Club and the Wyndham Staff 'Iliana Villalobos' was above and beyond providing information of what to do in area and answering any query we had. Overall very happy with the weekend away escaping the cold from Sydney and we all hope to be back soon 🤗.
Actually, I don't want to say any complaint against my staying at Ramada in Shoal Bay, but since my recent incident that I experienced getting worse I need to say something. I booked this service apartment from my Wyndham membership from 2nd-7th July 2017 due to school holiday. When I arrived, carpet in the foyer and kettle looks filthy. Lids pan was cracked and looked it has been fixed by someone. Internet WIFI was very slow, especially when you open youtube. No washing machine and dryer in the unit and it is not normal for 2 bedroom apartment that I ever been stayed. You have to go to level 5 at common area to share with other people and it will get worsen when many people do the same things with you and you have to be in the queque. It is not at the end of my disaster, my TOP annoyance was you are not allowed to bring your children with you inside swimming pool and spa premesis from 4 pm-7pm. This is ridicolous as there is no announcement before that (from 2nd-4th July). Suddenly, management put a new rules regarding this ridicolous rules. You can imagine, this is a school holiday period!!! ( from 1st-16th July 2017) and we spent most our activity outside the apartment before we come back to relax and spend our time with our beloved children. I was soaking in spa pool with my children, suddenly a security man came in and asked me to bring my children out from swimming pool premesis due to a new rules that they just put on today. When I asked him, he said that he just done his job and he got command from receptionist to follow that order. I tried to get a reason what is the main reason to put my children away from swimming pool and spa pool, So I went to receptionist. The lady at receptionist mentioned that that swimming pool and spa pool are only the place to RELAX for adults during that hours (4pm-7pm). That is the main reason they are not allowed children to come along with adult EVEN Adults are their parents. This is what I do not understand with RAMADA shoal bay mean to relax without children. As normal family, I believe most of us really appreciated and be grateful to spend precious time with our beloved children. It does not make sense to let our children to play alone inside the unit apartment while adults ( parents) relaxing inside swimming pool and spa premesis. If this is what RAMADA management mean, I totally disagree with this policy. When I stated my point of view, the receptionist just mentioned that she got order from her Boss, Nathan Hunt (General Manager). In the future, I will totally avoid to book this service apartment coz their management is not kids friendly.
Ramada was ok. The place was comfortable with a sunny pleasant room. We were promised a king bed and queen but on arrival one of the rooms had 2 singles. This was fixed to make a large bed. Next the blind fell to bits and we asked for help that never came. Next the toilet wouldnt flush so that was embarrassing but eventually got fixed but no hope for the blind. 3 times we reported the blind "oh yes we will tell maintenance" but they never came. Last morning the other toilet wouldnt flush. Ho hum tired of broken stuff. Gym and pool nice but not really keen to go there again🤔
I feel very underwhelmed after our stay in a 2 bed unit.I felt very disappointed, expecting a lot more having stayed in other ramada hotels. The unit is in need of a paint badly to freshen it up. Couldn't believe there would be very loud drilling activity at 8:45 on a Sunday morning!!! And when mentioned to Reception they were like we don't know anything about it? Yeah right!! Just be honest for goodness sake. Also our car park spot for our unit was very much a favourite of the local bird life and when I returned to my car, it was covered in bird poo! When mentioned staff said something to the effect oh yes we know that is a problem we are working on some solutions to that. Well why didn't they give us another car spot??? The car park was maybe 15 per cent full! Unbelievable!!!
It had been several years since I had visited this resort in Shoal Bay & based on some other reviews my expectations were not high but the price was reasonable and I was looking forward to a few days away. I was pleasantly surprised! I arrived slightly early for check in. Reception staff were friendly and helpful and my room was ready which was great. I stayed in a heritage beachfront 1 bedroom with a great little kitchen and relaxing corner spa in the bathroom. Everything was perfectly clean and very comfortable. The view was the best! The indoor pool & spa were fantastic and being freezing cold outside, not a weekend and off season a couple of times I had the whole place to myself - bliss! Breakfast at the cafe (Sandyfoot?) was good and I enjoyed the coffee - it was just right. The IGA next door has everything you need to keep you going & the staff there were friendly too. The fish and chip shop around the corner is also worth a visit. Overall great stay and I would recommend to others.
Beautiful walks along beaches.. loved the whale watching trip saw lots of whales and dolphins. Heaps of different bays to discover the place is much bigger than we thought. We also found great little gems of cafes and places to eat right on the beaches.
We spent a 3 night stay at the very well located hotel/resort during the off season and so the overall town was quite quiet. Hotel amenities are adequate but the rooms do need refurbishment which the management did state that would be started in 2018. This is a large complex with an ajoining pub and restaurant as part of the complex. There are a number of good quality restaurants in a few minutes walk and a number of very good restaurants in Nelson Bay which is a short drive. Things to be prepared about. This is not a a full service hotel. So rooms are not serviced each day and in fact are not serviced for up to 8 days unless you request it. I find this totally unacceptable. A few days would not be a problem. But this should be considered before booking. I believe that this was the reason why the cleanliness of the hotel was not as good as I would have expected. Bed's were very comfortable. Our room had a full kitchen but most have kitchenettes. Secure off street parking is provided and the room rate was reasonable but it was off-season. The room we had was a spacious 1 bedroom side unit in the tower block (B) with side water views and a large balcony. But our friends had different styles totally and much smaller. So check what rooms you are looking for and expecting. The room we got was like the pictures we saw online. Breakfast restaurant was really good, but there are other breakfast places close as well. Air conditioning was a bit hard to understand but worked OK. Would I stay there again? Probably yes, and there were lots of good things about this hotel but I would probably look around for other options to consider and try them first. But if I had to stay at the Ramada again it would not be that disappointed.
Arrived Friday 12 May, stayed 3 nights. 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment was clean and very comfortable, full kitchen, laundry facilities on next floor. Did not go to either of the resort's restaurants but enjoyed a meal at the GameFish Club nearby. Reception staff were friendly and very helpful. Great place to stay in Port Stephens.
My wife and I booked a beachfront room at the resort for a 4 day break. Check in was quite easy and our room was really good. We had a 1 br apartment style room with a balcony right across the road from the beautiful bay where my wife spotted dolphins. The resort is in a great location with plenty of restaurants nearby and even an IGA for the necessities you may have forgotten to pack. The only downside was the design of the carpark building (it has split levels ie 2 and 2a) where the lift does not go to all levels and the lifts are quite slow. Overall we enjoyed our stay
