Hotel Torretta

There must be dozens of four star hotels in Montecatini Terme. Some may have fancier facilities and a more prestigious address. But few can match the genuine warmth and welcome of the Torretta. Nearly every hotel, independent or part of a chain, pledges to take good care of their guests. Makes sense. They want repeat business, and in the age of the internet, positive reviews. But there is something special about a long tradition family owned hotel where hospitality is really in their DNA. There are many things we liked about this hotel, and a few less so, but the genuine commitment to their guests overshadows everything else. The hotel was either full or nearly so both nights we were there. That included several tour groups, a phenomena we would prefer to avoid. But these groups were relatively small, and well behaved. Because of the weather, and my being somewhat under the weather too, we opted to have a lunch and dinner at the hotel. Both meals, in their elegant dining room, were quite good, if not up to select restaurant quality. The breakfast buffet, in the same room, however, was decidedly pedestrian. Quantity does not equal quality. Canned juice and a wide array of generic bread and pastries, none from a real bakery, a few homely slices of cheese and cold cuts, canned 'fruit cocktail", a very mid-range brand of yogurt were all uninspiring. They did serve respectable coffee and tea. The public rooms offer dozens of inviting nooks to sit, relax, converse, contemplate. Considerable art work interspersed in the various rooms reflect a private, enthusiastic and tasteful appreciation of avoiding a purely utilitarian setting. Our room was fairly large, quiet and well equipped. albeit fairly bland. In terms of friendliness, value, ease of access, this is a delightful venue. I wish they would upgrade their breakfasts, and would pay more for more quality ingredients. That having been said, we would be pleased to return.

I was in Tuscany for the long Easter weekend, on a coach tour, so I didn't choose the hotel nor spend much time there. Staff, breakfast, rooms, location... everything was nice but nothing exciting. I guess I was expecting something more festive during the Easter holidays (food, decorations etc.). Nonetheless, I had a good stay. The hotel is in a quiet spot beside a golf course and walking distance to the funicular and local sights.

Chose this hotel from a brochure as our first trip to Italy. What a find! A family run hotel where the staff cannot do enough for you or be more helpful. From arranging our train tickets to having our postcards posted for us. The rooms are very comfortable and the pool very welcoming during the hot summer days. Situated just across from the beautiful park and close to the town for eating out. 5 minutes walk from the funicolare to Montecatini Alto and 10 minutes walk from either of the two stations which put Florence and Pisa within easy reach. We would happily return.

We stayed there for just under a week as part of a coach party. We stopped half board. The buffet breakfasts had more than enough choice to keep both my wife happy. The evening meals were on a sort of Table d’hôte basis. All very nice with both of us generally clearing our plates. The hotel is about 6mins. walk from the funicular railway up to Montecatini-Alto. It is only a short walk into town centre. The town roadtrain has a stop not far from the hotel. The train station. Although just the other side of the town centre is handy for trips to Florence etc. The staff who I think were largely family were very helpful & friendly. Very few of our group spoke Italian but the staff spoke enough English for it not to be a problem. Both my wife & I enjoyed our stay. We will be looking for further coach tours that stop there.

My husband and I stayed in a Junior Suite, Half Board for 2 weeks. with the intention of eating out elsewhere on a couple of occasions. We did not eat out once as the food was delicious. The hotel was spotless and clean. The hotel is run by the extended Simonetini Family who were wonderful hosts. Every member of staff from the cleaner, reception and all the wonderful restaurant and bar staff could not do enough for us and were very friendly and welcoming. We also received some great recommendations from the staff as to where to cycle and spent 2 days cycling the coast at Viareggio, plus we cycled from Lucca to Pisa. We were so sad to leave which is always the sign of a good holiday.

A group of 34 of us spent an excellent week at this family run hotel. The welcome, from the porterage of our luggage on the first day, to the farewell on the last, exceeded expectations. We had booked this hotel over a year ago, based on a visit and good reviews and we were not disappointed. The meals were very good every day with a great choice of food, well served and plentiful. Some of the group would have appreciated tea/coffee making facilities in the rooms or at least a kettle. Lack of standard electricity sockets presented problems for a few but helpful staff supplied adaptors where necessary. Some single rooms were small in comparison to the very good twins and doubles; but these did not detract from the overall enjoyment of the holiday in this lovely hotel. The management were a great help with the organisation of tours, visits to galleries and getting good seats for a local "Taste of Puccini" opera concert . Altogether a great holiday in a well appointed hotel. We will be back next year with another Superb Choice Club holiday group.

The staff here are excellent and make you very welcome. Booked in on a coach trip for 7 days. The room was ok with a nice bathroom. Different electric plugs here, a 3 pin Italian variation. The hotel did have a couple of adapters to cater for guest that were caught out, but down in the town there was a 99cents shop where you could buy the adapter. A firm bed which gave us a reasonable sleep. The other fitmennts in the room were practible even if a little old. A safe was provided (free), and free wifi. The evening meal was good and varied (with a few choices) throughout the week. Again excellent staff in the dining room. The breakfast offering was ok but could have been better. It comprised of cereals, cold meats and cheese, cakes, scrambled eggs and eggs that you could boil yourself to your taste. Also croissant and cake. There was a nice outside pool. No kettle or tea making facilities in the room, so take your own kettle if you want to make tea in your room. There is a small TVs with one English Channel (BBC World news)

You know the cliche "It doesn't get any better than this" well that truly applies to this hotel. It is only classified as 3-star but the service and food are exceptional. It is a spotlessly clean family run hotel and it was truly a pleasure to stay there.

Just returned from two weeks holiday staying at this delightful family run hotel. The staff too are very welcoming, friendly and always willing to help. Location is perfect with only a 10 min walk to the centre of Monticatini and 20 min walk to the train station for Florence, Lucca, Viareggio etc. Dinner (5 courses) each evening is superb with plenty of choices. Rooms are spotless and comfortable with views overlooking the pool and gardens.

We have just completed 10 days at the Toretta. It is family run and really feels like it. Some of the staff are not family but I was never sure which!! The hotel is situated on the outskirts of town bit still only a leisurely 3 minute walk from the centre and a minute from the Montecatini Alto binocular. FOOD Breakfast is plentiful salami ham cheese and fruit with plentiful coffee tea hot chocolate etc. Dinner was a delight very much family style: mixed salad, hearty thick soups, pasta, main courses offered a choice of meat fish or vegetarian followed by home made desserts and coffee. ROOMS Were a reasonable size spotlessly clean and well equipped. Some had balconies overlooking the pool very pleasant. Nothing was top much trouble for the staff ordering tickets for trains and theatres oil and wine tasting and pasta making. Almost enjoyable time
