Although the season had just ended and the hotel was 90% empty we were first assigned a room within hearing proximity to the service elevator. We were then moved to a supposedly non-smoking room which stunk like an ashtray. The male clerk behind the front desk rolled his eyes upon the sight of me in spite of my being very careful not to portray the ugly tourist as I am not like that and a seasoned traveler with many visits to Parma over the last 25 years. He had earlier disagreed that we were close to the elevator but didn't consider the service one. Otherwise, I liked the place very much.
