After one week in Patong Beach, Khaolak Laguna Resort was a paradise for us. It is a beautiful resort, where we just took it easy. There is everything you need for a relaxing vacation. We arrived at New Year's Eve and were surprised with amazing New Year's party. They had arranged a big party for the resort. There were buffet tables for every taste. The party exceeded our expectations. Wonderful start for a week. We stayed in a large hotel room and had separate rooms for two teenagers and grandma. Everyone had their own space. There are nice villas in the resort, but we chose hotel rooms. Breakfast is sumptuous and it was wonderful to have lunch at the beach restaurant. They serve also a buffet dinner. We liked the Chinese buffet, but not the Asian one. In the town, there are many restaurants to visit. Of course, there is a spa and we had massages. The experience is better than a cheaper massage at the beach. You should try them both. For me, there were two main things to do. I walked in the morning barefoot the long and beautiful beach. The sound of the sea and the empty beach is great for walking and jogging. The other thing was a day trip to Ko Surin Island to snorkel. It very easy to recommend Khaolak Laguna Resort for a vacation.
The architecture has ancient Chinese influences. Lots of stairs. The hotel rooms are over 10 meters above the sea level, 50 meters from the main street (6 lanes), but 120 meters from the seafront. The garden had canals between the bungalows. We chose Laguna Resort because it had the best grades on food ,which turned out to be true. The dinner was on the seafront boardwalk (Sundowners) where the ocean breeze cooled the air. On Tuesdays and Fridays they had a band playing and the tables had to be ordered. Price of a botle of singha beer and a clas of coce was 230 bats (6,75€) The Nag Thong beach was the best in Khao Lak. No rocks. The distance between high and low tide was almost 30 meters.
I stayed her for four nights over Christmas. The journey from the airport was very good and not too long and I was suitably pleased when I arrived at the resort. Upon checkin, we were greeted with a cold towel and a welcome drink and then escorted to our room. The room was great, Spacious, luxurious and a great big balcony. The resort had a great atmosphere, with beautifully manicured grounds, a lovely pool and of course right on the beach. Breakfast and lunch was very good at this resort, with plenty of choice and at a reasonable price. It's not far from the bars and restaurants and there are plenty of taxis available. The main road is only a minutes walk from the resort and the strip is about 3 KM long. It's a really pleasant walk and there are a great selection of places to eat and drink. I would recommend this hotel and should I return to the area, I would definitely stay here again.
The Laguna Hotel is an excellent choice of hotel if staying in Khoa Lak. It has a great beachfront location with beautifully tended gardens set around streams. Two great pools overlooking the sea. The accomodation is spread throughout the gardens and they have villas overlooking the ocean if your budget can stretch that far. Our room was spacious with all facilities required for a great stay. It was well looked after by the house keeping service. There are plenty of loungers beachside, poolside or under shady trees. The beach was clean and you can walk for miles. You have a five minute stroll into the town for bars, shops, restaurants. Breakfasts were great with loads of choice. We ate lunch and dinner a couple of times and the food was superb from bbq whole fish to crab dishes aswell as traditional Thai. We thought the prices were good value compared to some outside restaurants where the quality was questionable at times. We did the yoga, pilates and massage with the sports guys. They have good quality bicycles for exploring the area which is an absolute must. The Chong Fah waterfalls are within easy reach. My wife had a 2 hour spa special treatment which was excellent. All the staff did everthing to make our stay as pleasant as possible. We returned after three days jungle trekking and we got an upgrade to a villa before moving onto Bali. We have stayed at many hotels in the area and this is by far one of the best in Khoa Lak. Would we stay here again. Absolutely.
Just got back 13th Jan from a fantastic two weeks at Laguna Resort. Our experience was of a lovely setting with great amenities although as said previously there are a lot of steps. The staff are all (to many to mention) lovely friendly happy people who go out of their way to talk to you and make you smile. Our room was immaculate on arrival although we had to wait to get in from an early morning flight (sort this out please) and our room attendant kept up the standard. The food was excellent morning, noon and night with excellent freshly made buffets or a comprehensive a la carte menu. The house wines were palatable and the selection of bottled and draft beers good. We booked trips via reception and they were on time and as per the brochure and great value. We used the spa facilities and the Thai massages were excellent. My wife went to various free classes incl napkin and towell sculping which she says was fun. Entertainment was mixed but we were there for New Year and the pre drinks, show and fireworks were of a very high standard. A lot of work went into that show. Well done!! The piano player in the lounge plays to a high standard of all music. This hotel is definitely 4* plus in our estimation.
Absolutely rate this hotel and location there is nothing I could say to improve it... clean, friendly and beautiful setting. We went Snorkelling in Surin island, visited an elephant sanctuary and went to the tsunami museum which was very moving and reflective
This was our second time at this nice hotel with a great beach. We stayed in a bungalow with our two children, 8 and 9 years old. The bungalow was big enough for the four of us. To get to the breakfast restaurant and front service desk you need to climb a lot of stairs. Staff is friendly and a lot of the speaks pretty good english. Prices at the restaurant is about the double compare to the nice restaurants on the other side of the main road, Walkers Inn for example. We stayed during new Years Eve and they had a big party. It cost 5500 Bath and we thought it was to expensive so we didn't register for that. Then the lady who sold the tickets told us that it was for free for us. I couldn't understand why and I asked her several times and she said it was included in the stay. But of course, it was not for free and we ended up paying for it. 16 000 Bath for one dinner for the four of us, what a rip off! I will never set my foot on this hotel again, they are liars.
We enjoyed our week here. It’s a good hotel with some excellent staff. Many staff don’t speak English though. The beach area is very good. Avoid going at New Year - the buffet is a very poor affair but is charged at a very high rate.
We stayed at the Laguna last year, with our 2 boys who were 9 and 11. The Laguna was a great hotel, stunning sea view, great beach, lovely pool area and in a great family friendly area with lots of trips on offer. The downsides for us where the lack of evening entertainment, the karoake Beatles tribute lady didn’t really do it for us, which was a shame as the the hotel bar was beautiful but lifeless. The other downside was we didn’t find out about the a la carte menu til day 3 which we didn’t realise we could choose from instead of the buffet which wasn’t my cup of tea and was very samey. The a la carte curries were much better and had more options for the kids. Our room was beautiful, spotlessly clean and a good size. All the toilet areas of the hotel were amazingly maintained and even beautifully fragranced with lovely flowers and hand towels. I just wish they had paid the same attention to the pool water - both my boys got ear infections most likely from the pool water according to the local doctor. One of them was a secondary ear infection that caused my son a great deal of pain and discomfort and he couldn’t go in the pool for a week or hardly eat. This obviously detracted from our enjoyment of the holiday. The water in the pool is the warmest I have ever encountered, I would say its fine for a dip with your head above water but if I went back I wouldn’t let the kids submerge their heads. The hassle and worry wasn’t worth it. Whilst we were there there was lots of rain and overspill water running into the pool and I guess this didn’t help. I also picked up a bit of an eye infection but this wasn’t serious but I just think people should be aware. We have never got this from other pools, I think the difference was caused by the extremely warm water. We went on a fantastic trip to the James Bond island which was spectacular and also to the elephant sanctuary. Both were good but the elephant tour was a bit of a rush job and despite the eco creditations on the site they still had the spiky sticks though this was supposed to be just a precaution. It was amazing to be in the water with the elephants and to give them a wash though. There was one tour which was rubbish which was the riverboat through the jungle tour and to the waterfall. Our boat driver was a bit psychotic and quite scary in the way he handled the boat as though he had a grudge against us or the other boat handlers who were much more chilled out. I was relieved when it finished. The waterfall was beautiful but it wasn’t a comfortable experience as there’s not much room to sit and relax if you don’t want to get in, and quite noisy as someone was playing some awful music. I was also a bit on edge as the kids were going quite near the edge. The temple with the monkeys was a big hit with the kids and quite fascinating to see as well. The guides on some of the tours seem to make things up as they go along and show you pictures of wildlife that you definitely won’t see. I saw the most wildlife in the toilet on the elephant tour! But back to the hotel - I would definitely recommend the Laguna for a family wishing to explore the local area who want a relaxing base. The beach is stunning and great for kids as there are rock pools and loads of sand for running about, making sand castles etc - it’s also pretty interesting for wildlife. We spotted a small shark, several large monitor lizards, a black heron and good news for me we didn’t see a single jellyfish which I was very worried about. There was also a friendly cat who came with us one day to the beach and was eating the crabs! There are some dogs but they seem pretty harmless as long as you leave them alone. The whole holiday experience was transformed when we could eat at the beach restaurant at night with the sea breeze but because of the rain most nights this was closed and we had to eat in the enclosed area which wasn’t half as nice. So if you get the chance to do this make the most of it! WIth all the fairy lights it was magical. The staff are really friendly and if you make the effort to learn some basic Thai they really appreciated it, even though we sounded pretty terrible I’m sure. It would have been great to have more daily activities -the yoga was a terrible experience in a sweaty stifling room off the main road, not the breezy beach experience I’d envisaged! I would really have expected some free exercise/dance/Zumba classes/ kids martial arts classes or even some relaxing painting or craft classes with the sea view would have been a nice extra. If we’d stayed longer we would have gone on another sight seeing trip or done the jungle ropes. The main road outside the hotel was unexpected - I really didn’t imagine this lovely serene hotel with the lush mountain landscape to have a main road at the back. We ate out one night but it wasn’t really worth it, the hotel food was great and the food out was more expensive than we had thought. The kids did start to get fed up of chicken satay skewers though after 2 weeks! They were never hungry though as they had several delicious smoothies throughout the day and the odd magnum. All in all an amazing, relaxing holiday in one of the most beautiful clean and fascinating countries I have ever been too with the friendliest people.
We enjoyed our previous stay so much we decided to return, this is not something we usually do as there are so many places to visit. We were not disappointed! The service, staff and room were first class again. The bed was really comfortable and so were the pillows so we had good quality sleep. Our housekeeper was amazing, our room was spotless every day and always smelled lovely when we returned. Breakfast had lots of choice for all tastes, the only criticism is the area by the toasters and coffee machine could be very chaotic if it was busy but just time it right and no problem. It is so nice to be able to relax on a sun bed and choose whether to swim in the sea or in one of the pools as they are so close to each other. As returning guests we were treated to dinner and invited to a cocktail party by the hotel management and we really enjoyed this. We used the spa and can say we really enjoyed our oil massage and I had a manicure and my nails looked really good. One comment we would make is if you have difficulties with steps or need to use a wheel chair then this resort is not for you as it is built on many levels. Would highly recommend
