Casa de La Flora5.0 out of 5.0

Stayed at Casa de La Flora for 4 days with the partner in March 2018. The property has only 36 villas, mostly one-bedroom units, which means it is extremely quiet and peaceful. You tend to only see your fellow holidaymakers at mealtimes, or in the spa. This was ideal for us as we wanted a short quiet getaway. As note, you are also allowed use of their sister property, La Flora, about 10-15minutes walk away. It felt a bit busier and noisier, so we did not use the facilities there. Do also note that although the property has ocean views, there is NO beachfront, so if you are expecting to enjoy the sand, this is not the place for you. However, you can still access the ocean to swim, kayak etc. The service is impeccable, the staff always had a smile, always greeted you and due to the small number of villas, will recognize you and make you feel exceptionally welcome. If you have made an activity or spa booking with them, they will ensure your room is made up during this period, to avoid disturbing you. We had a late flight out, and they automatically offered use of their shower facilities before our airport transfer; a fantastic touch. We stayed in the Casa Pool Suite, which is located above the reception. The landing area is extremely hot, and perhaps because of the construction of the villas (flat-tops), the heat is translated into the room. Be sure to leave the air-conditioning on at all times to avoid coming back to a sauna. Management would do well to also switch it on beforehand if there is a guest arriving. The pool suite has a small pool/jacuzzi, which was a perfect location to relax, read a book and have a cocktail. The main pool is already fairly quiet, but this provides you with a feeling that you are truly on your own. The suite also has a rooftop area where you can enjoy the sunset, or your own in-room dining experience. The property (both the room and the surroundings) is extremely clean. There are very minor items that show its age (curtain rails not properly maintained, minor cracks on the facade) but on the overall, the cleanliness is top-notch, and contributed greatly to our relaxation. The pool/jacuzzi was spotless, the water was clear, the pool floor was well-kept and the jacuzzi nozzles were clean. As with other reviews, the bath tub is truly enormous, it took about 30-40minutes to fill, and we think the hot water tank might have actually ran out of hot water in that time. Do plan accordingly. In general the property is fairly high-tech, with touch controls for lighting, and a Smart TV for use that welcomes you personally (with your name). You can view your current bill on the TV, surf the internet, watch a movie... you get the idea. In terms of design, they employ a lot of wood (on ceilings, floors) and walls appear to be a general concrete gray. I liked the design, but others might think it too modern and stiff. The gym is fairly well-equipped, and also hosts their daily Yoga, Pilates, Thai Boxing classes. The spa is very well-equipped, I had a fantastic experience with Noi, but the partner had a less than satisfactory time. The spa immediately offered her a complimentary 1 hour massage the following day with a different massuse, showing fantastic service recovery. Food is fairly standard fare, tasty enough. Thai cuisine is probably slightly watered down. Western cuisine is fairly good. Breakfast is a bit sub-par by our standards. Bread, spreads, cereal, cold cuts could be fresher. You will have other options along the road leading to the property, as well as at the nearby Bang Niang Market. They have nightly specials from time-to-time. The bread that is served before your appetisers at lunch and dinner is very good. They also provide cold towels after your meal to freshen you up. The property is about 1hr 30min from Phuket International Airport, so be prepared for the journey. They do have a transfer service with cold towels, drinks, music. As above, the surrounding consists of restaurants (mainly European fare) massage shops and Ban Niang Market. These are mostly only active during the evening time (530 onwards), so do not be surprised if they look closed at lunchtime. To get around, the property offers bicycles for use. In my opinion nothing detracted the property from a 5-star rating. If I really had to gripe, an improvement on breakfast would make it perfect. But as it is, I can heartily recommend Casa de La Flora for a restful, quiet break.
This was our second visit to Casa and I was worried we would be unable to repeat the experience of our first trip but I had nothing to worry about. Casa is a beautiful, intimate boutique style resort with wonderful staff who really do take care of you from the moment you arrive and are who are constantly smiling. We visited their new resort in Khao Lak the La Vela but left after 10 minutes. You never struggle for a sunbed here and during the day it isn’t exceptionally quiet ....absolutely blissful! We found it quite challenging this year due to the high tides during the day to get into the sea directly in front of the Hotel and at times the steps down were not at all easy to use. There are beautiful beach’s which go on and on for miles within a 5 minute walk either side of The Casa and we absoloutly loved taking walks along these grabbing a dirt cheap lunch with a beer or cocktail followed by an incredibly good and very cheap massage overlooking the ocean. We visited the new Resort of La Vela a sister property of Casa as you can use all of their facilities and sign food etc back to your room, it is a stunning property but after La Casa is a shock to the system as it is a huge property, crowded and noisy...we left after 10 minutes and couldn’t wait to get back the beautiful tranquility of La Casa. Overall a truly blissful stay in a totally unique property ....only one negative following this trip and that was the terrible check out by the miserable and very unhelpful individual on the front desk on the morning we left which was dissapointing as he did not demonstrate the wonderful and personalised service we had recieved from every other employee we came across during our stay ....I know we all have our bad days but it was a shame that was our last impression on departing and paying our bill. I can however confidently recommend this Hotel and would absolutely return ........I would go back today if I could LOL
We we super excited to visit what Condé Nast named top hotel in 2012 during our 3 weeks vacation in Thailand, a few improvements however are required for me to give this hotel 5 stars. First - The good - the location is magnificent, right on the beach, the personal plunge pool, the welcome cocktail party, excellent breakfast with endless Prosecco, dining room service by a lovely girl named Spy, all staff are eager to please (front desk/housekeeping/room service). Second - The “needs improvement” - The hotel needs to employ more staff that can speak and understand English, it was difficult to communicate and order food and drinks with staff (with the exception of our girl Spy). 👍🏻 Third - Not up to snuff - the seafood buffet, over priced and very bland (meaning grilled or steamed with no marinade or sauce served on fresh fish and lobster. One from our party left dinner as she was not feeling well, and they agreed only after “pressing” to reduce her bill by 50% (never have I encountered that before in a 5 Star resort), the front desk even called the restaurant to check if the third person did in fact leave early and not participate in the seafood buffet. Overall very good experience but not worth the high price tag for a luxurious hotel.
We have just returned from Casa de la Flora where we spent 13 wonderful days. We stayed here two years ago and I was a bit worried in case it had changed and maybe gone downhill but I’m so pleased to say that Casa de La Flora is still the best hotel in Khao Lak. The staff are fantastic and are so welcoming and helpful, nothing is too much trouble. Our studio was fantastic (we requested the same one we stayed in the first time we were there). The room was spotless and there was a cold bottle of Prosecco waiting for us courtesy of the hotel thank you. Our bed was so comfortable and our room was spotless. We enjoyed the cocktail party and it’s a great ice breaker and enables you to get to know your fellow guests. We enjoyed a massage at the Spa and even went out on two bicycles one day. The food is fantastic with a great choice at breakfast to suit everyone. I would like to say a massive thank you to all the staff who went out of their way to make our holiday fantastic. Thanks to the girls on reception who were so welcoming especially Pia. Special thanks to Mook (evenings at la Arayna) she deserves to go far she was really lovely. Pui Tui Jang Mook and Tang thank you. Special thanks to the pool attendants you all made our holiday great. Thanks to management for my birthday cake it was delicious. I hope to return again soon Thank you everyone
Stayed with girlfriend for a short weekend get away. Spacious duplex room with spa pool. Great complimentary mini bar provided. Only small downside is there is no beach frontage, but otherwise all other aspects were perfect.
My husband and I are currently staying at this hotel for our honeymoon. We are so happy with the service that we have received so far. Bew was amazing at getting us acquainted with the hotel grounds and accommodating any requests. The rooms are beautiful, very modern with customizable lighting, private pool. We are staying in the Neem room at the corner and the view of the sunset is just amazing. The chef at the restaurant is excellent. The breakfasts are great, staff is so incredibly friendly. We couldn’t be happier!!
This has been our third visit to this lovely hotel and indeed we are still here at the time of writing this review. As on previous occasions we were given a warm welcome and check in process was quick and efficient. The manager, Tang, is a lovely lady who clearly cares that the guests have a great experience. We contacted her regarding a few minor issues and everything was resolved quickly, efficiently and with a brilliant smile. Breakfast is excellent with great choice of a la carte dishes. We are trying the BBQ buffet tonight for which the menu is extensive. Spa treatments have been very enjoyable as well. Thanks to the combination of comfortable loungers outside our beachfront pool room as well as those on the grassy area it is always possible to find sun or shade. The communal infinity pool is stunning. As other reviewers have written, it is now almost impossible to walk along the beach due to the shocking erosion. However as we had rented a motorbike from the lovely lady at Gerd and Noi down the road (where we also took our laundry) we used to go to White Sand beach for morning walking. The erosion is not as bad there but it may have to change its name to Golden Sand beach as most of the white sand has disappeared. We discovered a new beach restaurant this year, Nong Prew, where we have eaten most often. Turn left out of the Casa and it’s a 5 minute walk. Consistently great food and efficient service. In short this hotel is perfect if you like peace and tranquility as well as very comfortable rooms and impeccable service. Thank you Tang for everything!
This is the first time that we have had to check out of a hotel after checking in. We booked this hotel for 7 nights including flights through a travel agent and arrived at about 11pm, following 23 hours of travel with a long stopover in Dubai. As I do not travel well, I had not eaten anything for hours( although Emirates had fantastic food options). After checking in and being shown the pool villa suite, I asked the staff if we could order room service and was told that it stopped at 11.30pm, 5 minutes ago and there was nothing they could do. I could not believe my hears and rang reception to ask if there was anything they could do as I needed to eat and was hungry. The option reception gave me was for us to come to reception and they will call us a taxi. The taxi can take us to a place we could buy food. Bearing in mind that it was now midnight and we had never been to Thailand before, we declined and went to bed hungry. This incident together with the reasons below made us decide that we did not want to be at this resort and checked out this morning, 12 hours after checking in. We have been told by the travel agent that they have asked the hotel to refund part of our money as we had paid in advance to stay for 7 night but they refused. Cons The resort is 1hour, thirty minutes from Phuket. There is too much building on too little land, creating a feeling of being enclosed Our villa was very 'cave like' made worst by the bare concrete walls. h His and hers slippers in the room had been used before, evidenced by the stain on the soles - we refused to wear Pros Very friendly staff, although the night staff could do with more training about "customer care" Don't pay in advance or it could cost you thousands for 1 night.
Just returned from an amazing six day break at this fantastic hotel. A small boutique hotel with different style villas , all with private pools. We stayed in a Grand Duplex , which is on three floors with great facilities including huge bed, with views of the sea, huge bath and lounge. Free mini bar with limited selection was also available. Breakfast choice is very good , with hot food prepared for you. We ate a couple times in the evening , where again the food was excellent. The hotel is about a 5-10 minute walk to lots of bars and restaurants all serving great cheap food. Staff are very professional, attentive and helpful. Only slight drawback to the hotel is no real beach. Tide comes in all the way to the wall of the hotel, so no opportunity to sit on the beach. You can get into the sea to swim. I would highly recommend this hotel and will certainly be back. Probably in January!!
The Hotel...we had a beach front pool villa and it was excellent, very well appointed, huge bed, double shower, huge bath, nice linen and a choice of toiletries upon arrival. Free minibar with a limited selection but adequate. Housekeeping timing very good and a good reasonably priced laundry service . Note...the deck by the pool was too low to be able to see the sea from, probably due to privacy, the pool was adequate for dunking when hot. Beware of mosquitos there, they found me in spite of sprays. To get the sun there is a grassed terrace with loungers and shades, just about enough for everybody, we walk and swim very early and so, needing somewhere to leave our things, we managed to get a lounger infront of our villa every day. The breakfasts are extremely good, a wide choice, I enjoyed the steak one and perfumed eggs in particular. The speed the food comes is relative to the volume of people there, the less the sooner it arrives, sometimes before you want it, sometimes we waited over half an hour. There is endless fizz, juices and fruit. Staff are attentive. We had the set menu dinner one night, very few diners were there, staff were at our shoulders all the time ready to clear and bring the next course. We had to revert to holding on to our knife and fork. The food was good but not memorable. There are so many local restaurants nearby serving excellent but cheap local dishes that most people ate at these. Happy hour, at the bar was between 13.00 and 16.00 hours and was excellent value. Apparently the sea at Khao Lak has changed over the year, it comes in much further now and we found it difficult to get down to the beach and swim for 50% of the time and at high tide the waves and spray come over the top of the terrace, fun and cooling at times. Out of our 10days we did manage to get in an hour’s yomp along the beach at 07.00 hour’s
