Please take note of -lift spolit every time -air condition no funtion -bathroom hot water is no funtion -kids pool dirty -breakfast not more choice -receptionist not helpfull not friendly. Thank you.
The room is very dirty. Aircon is very noisy and in the middle od the night it makes a horrible noise that make me jump feom the bed. No hot water..sometimes if you are lucky, you will get a room temperature water at best. I made a request to change the room and complain about the aircon. No apopogize from the front desk. When I ask ia there any room with a new aircon, the girl with an annoying face told me every room is the same. What a nightmare...Noisy Aircon..No hot water...Dirty room...run down sofa...
During my stay from 19 october-21 october 2017 I was very impressed by this guy Danesh from concierge who was knowledgeable in handling guest. He has been very accommodating and helpful in many ways. Congratulations to have a staff like him.
The Gurney hotel is old but value for money. It was a relaxing 5 nights on the 25th floor having a lovely sea view. Housekeeping did a good job maintaining the comfortable room abs replenishing the beverages and toiletries. The aircon worked well. However one should shower near noon when there was the hot water. The buffet breakfast served the usual items. I liked the fluffy omelette and my Husband enjoyed the half boiled eggs. The hotel is a 20minute walk from Gurney Plaza. The nearby Song River stalls sell cheap dishes. I recommend the tender satay, Ngo Hiang and char kwey Teow.
1. We booked 2 suites, one of them with airconditioner control out of order and room was changed, after much hassle to very that the Wi-Fi for the floor #32 was not working. This wasted 1 hr 15 mins of our precious time. 2. The changed room air-conditioner dripping water and the whole got to endure the sound of the water droplets. 3. the 2nd suite supposed to be fine but for the whole night, the toilet with water dripping sound. 4. Housekeeping is a lazy job done. Simply unable to understand why the chambermaid only replace with one towel, given the room is meant for 2. The was no replacement of toilet floor rug... forgetful ? Lazy or simply sub standard ? 4. room cards not working for 3 times, and we need to go down to change the card after a tired day out. 5. Next, this could be our mistake not to check at the hotel website, there is no more Gym. However, hotel.com and booking.com still showing gym is available. Hotel reception blamed it on the hotel booking website.. which in my opinion, the hotel should follow-up to ensure these websites are updated !! 6. Finally, the poolside is very noisy. renovation going on and it's really not enjoyable at all. Will not go back, this was a very bad stay experience for us.
The website photos were obviously taken years ago, when it was a nice Hotel. Rooms although extremely large were drab with water stained curtains, poor tiling in the bathroom and worn furniture. We stayed for four nights and only had hot water once in the bathroom. We got a staff member to come up and he said you had to leave all the taps on for 5 mins to get hot water. I tried this several times, but wasting water is not something we practise at home. Pool area was poor with rotten decking and the pool ladder was loose where the concrete was broken. TV channels 20 or so in Malay or Chinese only two English channels. Would not recommend this Hotel to Westerners.
I came to PENANG with a group of 10 team mates. Booking of the hotel was easy and trouble free. Rooms were ready on our arrival. The rooms are huge and clean, and the view was great from our room on the 33rd floor. Amenities were sufficient to meet our daily needs. Location is very good. Walking distance to eateries and the famous Gurney Drive hawker centre, and shopping mall (not my interest though...) Good breakfast spread. They also have a nice and clean spa (Samsara Spa) within the hotel, which is convenient for guests like us, after a long day out in the sun. Will definitely be back again!
This hotel is situated nearby the shopping centre Paragon and Gurney Plaza. You may find the tourist hot spot night time supper at new gurney drive which is nearby to Gurney Plaza. We rent a 2 bedroom Suite. They served welcome drink and guest can self-service and refill anytime. All the facilities are provided such as iron, hairdryer, seaview room, small kitchen, TV and come with a spacious living hall. Staff were friendly and attentive. Swimming pool has great seaview too and the children pool equipped with children's slide. The only disadvantage is that the hotel quite old. A refurbishment is required in order to score high.
For the price point, I suppose you cannot complain, but the place remains in desperate need of refurbishment. We had a 2 bedroom suite sleeping 4 with breakfast for about RM 400 per night, with a good location on Gurney Drive, so very good value there. However, the points that were not up to standard from the last visit last year was still present. Definitely not 4-star standard, but the bed was comfortable and sheets and duvets were clean (unlike the carpet and curtains which needed a good clean). Wifi was slow at times and really only works in the living room. Staff were efficient. Overall, you get what you pay for - OK if you just use the room to sleep in.
check in was smooth, despite requesting a room on lower floors due to my fear of heights they laughed and told me to enjoy the view from level 32. Ok so it wasn't so bad being up that high, i just closed the curtains so i didn't have to look. The lifts are very slow and old and creak and wobble- doesn't help when you are already afraid of heights. breakfast buffet was terrible, and not worth the price of it. room was large and spacious but run down and old, carpet stains and rips and very much in the need of a good paint and clean up. The pool areas look to be under construction or renovation but the kids enjoyed what was available staff are reasonably friendly and the location is good for access to the local malls etc. i won't stay here again.
