It was a last minute reservation to Berjaya Penang Hotel, because the reserved hotel was cancelled. So I booked this place on Agoda and the deal was reasonable. Arrived at the hotel, entered through the car park, an old and dark car park, with confusing entrance and exit. Let's get into the overview of my rating about this hotel - average. 1) The brand speaks for itself While Berjaya is a well known house hold brand name in the nation as well as internationally, there is only so much a branch could speak without the constant delivery of what the clients are paying for. 2) Reception Slow. Only 1 personnel on duty. Imagine I was there when a large group of tourist checking in. 3) Courteous The staff is generally happy to assist. The only problem with them, they are just so occupied. There is a feel that this hotel is lack of staff. 4) Cleanliness The hotel is old, but the house keeping team has kept the place quite alive and well. Except when the first room I was given, a smoking room with very dirty carpet as well as smelly room. 5) To get what you really paid for, you really have to complain. I told the team that the room I was given was dirty and smelly. The team changed the room. So I think why not just maintain all the rooms well so to save the guests from complaining? Will I stay here again? No.

Hotel right across Penang Adventist Hospital. for those going to the hospital this hotel worth the price. It is a short 5-8 min walk to the bustling Gurney Plaza, which is next to Gurney Paragon. There is a 7-11 and a small 24-hr mini mart next to the hotel. However wifi was a problem, signal does not reach the room well and was very slow. But overall, will recommend this hotel when going to Penang for the hospital.

This hotel is old and tired! Rooms need a good clean, carpet is old and stained, beds uncomfortable, bathroom had mildew and mould, taps, tissue holder dirty and stained, tiles chipped, towel rail rusty. Rooms smell strange. Advertised as a 4 star hotel, I wouldn't give it 1 star. So disappointed checked out in the morning due to our late arrival, if we could have gone sooner we would have.

We stayed in the hotels suite. It was very spacious and not to mention really clean, hotel staff were friendly and welcoming. Will definitely recommend this place again to my friends as well as revisit it myself.

It was a last minute travel and I managed to secure a standard single room from hotel website direct. On my day of arrival, the reception could not find my booking immediately. However, the friendly team have made my wait a pleasant one. Room is old but clean. Great location, easy access to Gurney Plaza and Pulau Tikus night market. Close to a couple of hospitals making it a popular hotel. Unfortunately , don't expect a good free wifi connection properly due to its high occupancy.

We were greeted with polite and proactive staff from the time we reached the hotel main entrance in the evening. The parking warden was helpful to find a parking space for our rather big tour coach. All the staff from the bell boys, concierge, front office to receptionist that we came across are helpful, proactive, polite and always greet us with a smile. The hotel room are spacious, clean and cosy. Usually, whenever i travel away from home, i will have problem with sleeping soundly on the first night as i'm still not used to the bed BUT this time in Berjaya Penang Hotel, I was able to sleep soundly even on the first night! I'll definitely book this hotel for my family's stay if we were to travel to Penang again in the future. Highly recommended to those who go for city tour of Penang.

Nice hotel and clean ... Trip to Penang with my Dad for medication at Andventist Penang Hospital The hotel just across the hospital and make me really convenient back and forth to Hospital Just on ground floor have seven eleven store and short walking distance have really nice and affordable hawker street food Staying here for 5 nights .. Hotel staff are really friendly and helpful

Indeed this was a very very old hotel. We came to penang for our 24 years married anniversary. We disappointed with the conditions of the rooms that was provided us. But things changes due to the attentive of the manageress Ms Kala and the Hotel management done some changes for us. We have a good two night stays. Thank you once again.

It was a short escape for us to go Penang this month. Truthfully, I have a preferred hotel that I like and always stay when i'm in Georgetown, however, that hotel occupancy is fully booked, and what's left is rooms with ridiculously priced. So we decided to give Georgetown city hotel a try! The room pictures, the price, and the location blew us away!! We're fairly impressed! Near to hospital (not that we need that) near to gurney drive, near to several temple, and good haven. And all are within walking distance (as long as you don't mind 15-20mins walking) Upon arrival, due to the proximity to mid point mall, and the available of some shanty restaurant and stall, the facade does look abit old and rundown, we proceed to park our car in yet again, a dimly lit rundown carpark area. Luckily when we gone up to the lobby, thing changed slightly, and staff were some what friendly and attentive. Once we got our room key,and entering our room, everything is as nicely shown as in the picture and the view we got is just simply amazing. If you look at the room generally and don't pay attention to the details, I would have easily given this place a four star. But upon closer inspection, there's paint chips, stains, faulty remote control for tv, and a sense of being in a very aged hotel. The horror (kinda over exaggerating ) start at the bathroom. The bathroom is badly maintained in compare to the rest of the rooms. Stain basin, bathtub, shower head and toilet both, yes it's probably clean, but it certainly doenst look so. So if there's something you guys could improve, you guys should definitely start with the toilet.

It was a nice experience to stay at Georgetown City Hotel . Rooms furnitures look old , bed is good ( i can say OK ) , just classified as classic hotel . Buffet Breakfast was nice , and i saw a lot of fruits . Overall i can rate 7/10 It was nice experience to stay in this hotel :)
