Missed Opportunity & Goodwill Destroyed
Overall, the Montage is a fantastic property. The facility is beautiful, very comfortable, and well maintained. The food was delicious, and all the staff as pleasant as can be. Yet, we departed disappointed and unlikely to return due to the Montage's imposition of a mandatory "resort fee" of $50 per night. I recognize this is becoming a trendy thing for higher end hotels to do, but it is nothing more than a scam with no legitimate purpose other than to deceive guests into thinking the room rate is less than it actually is. Why else would it be separate but mandatory? What's next, a mandatory bed sheet charge? Let's put this in perspective. Including taxes but excluding added fees, we paid $8230.64 for a 2 night stay in 2 standard rooms. That's right, over $2057 per room per night, all paid in advance. Yet, the Montage then felt compelled to charge us an additional $50/night "resort fee" plus taxes on top of this. Obviously the additional $226.76 would not have made a difference it our selection of the Montage - we were clearly not pricing shopping - but imposing this ridiculous deceptive charge on at the end is a poor practice and resulted in us departing displeased with a sour impression and unlikely to stay at the Montage again until this shameful and insulting practice is eliminated. The $34/day additional parking fee was fine, it was clearly stated and optional, but anything not optional should be included in the room rate.
