I feel bad for submitting this review but people should know what they are in for when spending so much money on accommodation. Istria is absolutely a 2 star property. When I look back on my reading of the property advertising, I can see the clever wording and the misleading photos. It's what is not photographed and what is not said that leads one to pay a lot of money for sub standard accommodation. The room was clean albeit tired, chipped walls and tiles and threadbare carpets. The bed was comfortable and sheets lovely. Breakfast was OK, not something I'd look forward to. The bathroom was heinous. Step over the toilet to stand in a bathtub with a handheld shower nozzle. Careful not to wet the nearby towels, the toilet or toilet paper. Maybe this was the room out the back that was allocated to the midnight arrivals from Australia who had paid way too much. I don't know what the other rooms were like but we weren't spending our short time in Paris finding out.
Excellent location, accessible from few train lines. Around restaurants and bars where you can taste some good food and vine. At the hotel people are very friendly and rooms are clean too but VERY SMALL ROOMS!!!
I enjoyed the hotel. It was in renovations, which I could've been notified of before, but not a problem. The employees were very friendly. Room was a bit small, but it was all I needed. Loved the breakfast!
We had the pleasure of staying at Hotel Istria in June of 2018, and found everything satisfactory to our needs. The breakfast was a nice plus as well. Rooms are not large or luxurious, but that wasn't what we were in Paris for (they were clean, though). The close proximity to the Metro was particularly nice. A great experience, and we would stay here again.
The rooms are small but it really gives you the feel of how the old French rooms felt. It is a really cute hotel and not far of a walk from any restaurants or laundry mats. I absolutely loved the hotel and how they make you feel. The breakfast is good there too... for the most part, I had breakfast outside the hotel.
First stayed in this hotel nearly 30 years ago. Until now a good experience. This was really disappointing. We were not informed when booking that there was major re-construction underway and no sitting area or breakfast room available. There should have been a reduced price. At one point when I was in the bathroom a section of the wall fell out. Breakfast was served in the room at a time nor requested - it was of poorer quality then any take-away café.
Me and my friend have just got back from a weekend break staying at hôtel Istria and we were so happy with our stay. We stayed in a twin room which was bigger than we expected from reading the reviews beforehand, but not massive. All of the reception staff were so helpful, and were multilingual which was a massive help. The hotel is really close to the metro, has a supermarket just down the road, and is within close walking distance of some great cafes and bars. The only downside was that the shower was held just above the bath which meant that the floor got soaked each time you had a shower because there was no shower curtain, but it was tidied by housekeeping each day so wasn’t too much bother. Merci Istria pour ce merveilleux séjour!
We stayed for six nights in this hotel. It is located on a narrow, quiet road, conveniently close to the Raspail metro station and a lot of cafes and restaurants in the Montparnasse area. The staff in the reception was polite, welcoming and helpful. We had booked a superior room on the fourth floor. The room had a nice view over the Montparnasse Tower, but it was very very small. This was maybe the only BIG problem in a room which was otherwise well equipped and clean and had very good beds. Coffee making facilities, air-conditioning, safe, bullet-fast WiFi and (especially) fridge are things hard to find all of them in one room of a three star hotel. Housekeeping was daily and effective. Breakfast was another little surprise. The breakfast room was in the basement. It was small but beautiful and very well lit. There was a big variety of cold food and fresh fruit. All food was of very good quality and all seemed fresh. The only problem was that we were running out of coffee very frequently and the refilling (by the staff) was very slow. Price was rather low and fair for the Parisian standards. So, if you want to stay in a quiet and inexpensive hotel in one of the liveliest neighborhoods in Paris and you don't mind having a very small (but well equipped) room, very close to the metro station, then Hotel Istria should be set high in your choices.
Very small, I would say tiny rooms. It could be more honest to range this hotel as 2 star hotel, not 3 star hotel as they mention it. Stuff was not really welcoming, during the breakfast they looked at the guest unfriendly and we felt unwelcomed and wanted to leave as soon as possible not to bother them.
Close to RER B and Metro Raspail. On quiet one way side street. Room 5 off courtyard. Room compact but had desk with chair, stool, kettle, 5 outlets with enough plugs for all electronics. Two night stands, luggage rack, wardrobe for hanging clothes, storing suitcase and 3shelves for storage. Bathroom small but efficient. Shower with silky curtain which stuck to my wet 5’2”, 110# body, what a LAUGH!! Great breakfast and a/c. Carpets always get dirty with hundreds of people walking on them. Use slippers.
