We stayed in a 1 bedroom hotel room which had a great sized bedroom, kitchenette, dining and living room area with a pullout couch. The room was perfect for our family of 4. The kids loved swimming in the pool (2 pools including small sized kid pool). The rooms were clean, modern and very quiet. The location was good, a few blocks from a big supermarket, restaurants in walking distance and the Cintera path along the water. Do not attempt to go far distances in taxis during rush hour (about 4-7). It took ages to get places because traffic was horrible! Also, it is helpful to tell taxi drivers to go the the Marriott Suites near the Igelisia del Carmen. We were taken to the wrong Marriott several times and had frustrated cab drivers. Try the Brazilian steakhouse a few blocks away. Skip Tinajas (too touristy).
When we arrived we were told that the two double beds I had confirmed from the USA would not be ready for 2 days (I called our travel agency and they called the hotel to request them and were guaranteed) we had a reservation for a one bedroom apartment and were given a loft apartment, which we found out when we got to the room I complaint to the reception area and was told that they did not have any available and they were going to look into it. We ate at the hotel restaurant and they treated us very well, the manager Julio and the Chef were very nice, we told them about what had happened and they called the hotel manager and they offered us free breakfast for the two days in question. The next day I decided to call our travel agency and called the hotel operator to connect me with to them and told me that they did not have the number, I looked it up and still they were unable to connect me with them, so I decided to call them myself to the USA number at $2.50 a minute or so for about 54 minutes because I was transferred a few times. Finally I got someone to help me and told me to wait on the line while they would contact the hotel, but they were rude and disconnected her a few times. I decided to call my sister in the USA to help me take care of the situation and she was able to help me change the hotel. That day the chef came to our apartment to tell us how sorry he was about the whole situation and to wish us well and gave us a bottle of wine as a present. The minute we decided to leave the manager who was not around to take care of the problem from the beginning, called me and told me that he wanted to talk to me, upon departure I spoke with him and told him that our travel agency had tried to contact him a few times and was waiting for him to give them a call back my sister called the travel agency the next day to see about a refund from the hotel and the manager had not called them yet. The experience we had with the reception staff was very poor, but the restaurant staff made it very pleasant for us.
