Bathroom was terrible: Wet floor because of leaking toilet and lots of hair everywhere. Also on the bed: lots of hair so that I doubt that the sheets had been changed. Not what I would have expected. Also wifi did not work. I did ask for a room with a view, but had none. Only positive point: There's a casino with slot machines downstairs. Since I arrived at night, that seemed the only safe thing to do in the neighbourhood.
Good new rooms, good location, good price, good food, near the best malls of the city, best restaurant, near casco antiguo, walking distance to cinta costera. Best hotel in the area, they are making good improvements to the hotel.
At this hotel I did find it weird, that the rooms on the ground floor had there windows looked and metal on them like you would imagine a prison cell to look like. The Breakfast was horrible. I would not recommend this place to anyone I'd rather pay more and stay in the Riu plaza!
Old, cheap hotel, rooms are not well taken care off and in very bad shape. All bathrooms have leaks and there is a very poor service from all the staff. Plus, it is located in a very bad neighborhood, even hotel staff recommended not to walk outside, but take taxi cabs!
Staff was very pleasant and helpful. Great views from the rooftop pool. Room was average for an aging hotel, very clean. Free breakfast was nice, especially for a taste of Panamanian fare. Location is pretty central to most things, had a rental car this trip, safe, locked, outdoor parking. Casino was a different experience as well, pretty fun.
Rooms: Spacious rooms but nothing like the hotel website. Marked furniture, lights not working, loose fittings. Bathroom / Water: Old style shower with dirty tiles but good water pressure and hot. Staff: Seemed fine but none of them spoke any English at all. Cleanliness: Not great, especially corridors. Room was clean though and linen fine. Food: Breakfast was okay but served in different locations. Once in an old conference room with big tables. The waiting staff just take your glasses and plates away before you finish and don’t attempt to speak. Wifi: Could not connect in my room, had to leave room and move near to the lifts and very slow poor service. Local Area: Horrible area, downtown and not so nice. There are far better areas to stay. From the airport: When you arrive they will show you a taxi cost is standard at $30 but the real price is $20 or $25 max so negotiate and just tell them you know it’s $20. Summary: Quite disappointed, from the website I thought I would be staying somewhere nice and it was in a horrible area. The hotel was not looked after and old. It had spare beds just placed in the corridors.
Good thing: Bed was comfortable for me-don't like too soft or too hard. Service was not great. If you speak english or not so good spanish, you are ignored. Parking lot is a couple of blocks and you have ask for a key to the dead bolt to get into the lot. Maybe OK if you don't need to get to your car for things. Most people don't have a car. Power went off when we got to the room. It was off for about 20minutes, which means no internet. Hotel does not have a backup generator except for the lobby, but not internet in lobby either. When the power came back everything was fine for the rest of the stay. We walked to San Filipe-took about 20 minutes. Hotel is only 3 streets from Balboa-good place to walk. Tried the hotel restaurant for dinner. We were suppose to get a cocktail with the room (some coupon thing). We ordered diet cokes instead. So it was $5 because according to the waiter, a cocktail is rum and punch. I studied the menu and order something, but the waiter said the menu was old and he gave me another one, which didn't have anything on it that I wanted. So we paid for the cokes and left. Went across the street to the right a bit to a diner type place Alcupoco. It was busy but the service was fast and the food good but you get those canned veggies. Salad with the meal was good. I ordered fish fillet and it was a good texture-not soggy. I did not check out the pool in hotel or the breakfast. I would not stay there again. There are much better hotels in the city that have generators and give you the right menu.
The hotel seems old, but not old fashioned... old. like there's no renovation since the 80's. The roof pool is very cool! I like the views and the clean area. but the rooms and the ambiance need an improvement. the casino is a nice place to spend your money on. and good food believe or not.
The service is good and the room is newly remodeled and clean. In an older part of the city but seemed fine.. Next to a Casino For the price a nice stay. The clerks want to be helpful, but we are not speaking very good Spanish.
On the 22-09-13, I and a Friend check inn at the Gran Soloy Hotel & Casino. We spend four nights and five days. On our arrival we received expeditious and friendly service. We were given a large double occupancy room with air condition, cable T.V, fridge, night bed lights, hot and cold shower. We had buffet style breakfast which was the very delicious. The hotel staffs were extremely helpful. At the same we were checking in, there was a tour guy present. He knows English very well. He immediately assisted us with translation. We enquired from him as to what we could access during our stay. We enquired his price for touring us around and it was ridiculously cheap compare to what we were told previously. We retain his services. His name is Mr Alcie Hooker. His mobile number is 507-6698-9971. You should enquire about the international code from your Country if you are calling him from outside of Panama. He was the best tour Guy we have ever had in our life. He was very honest, given us more than he initially offered us. He didn’t charge us for translation. He was always on time. Gran Soloy was the best hotel we ever stayed. We therefore recommend this hotel for the world. And we also recommend M.r Alcie’s Hooker to everyone.... We are from Trinidad and Tobago .
