We stayed here when my husband competed in the Ironman Florida race. It was expensive for what it was, working out at $250 per night when you included all the fees etc - we booked direct with the hotel so that was the cheapest we could find. The pool area was clean and nice but the condo was definitely dated. There was a note on the refrigerator detailing an upcoming auction of some 100 of the condos so I suspect they are suffering from people getting sick of the lack of maintenance and walking away.. The thing that left me most disappointed for the price we paid was the cheapness of the resort when it came to letting the rooms. There was no hand soap, only bath gel. There were no beach towels provided so we had to use the bath towels - usually a huge no-no for a resort. And having advertised the condo with a hair dryer, there was none (and I have long hair!) and when I asked for one at reception I was told they did not provide them any more. When I explained that I had not brought one with me because their website said they provided, I was rudely told that they would have to update their website then. I just expected more from a beachfront resort. Even the cheap motel next door where our friends stayed had hand soap and hair dryers! I will be looking at other accommodation for next year and advising the other Ironman athletes to do the same.
3 star rating although I can see where many reviews were 1 star. My only complaint, and it really is significant is to WATCH OUT FOR THE ADDITIONAL CLEANING AND RESORT FEES WHICH ARE NOT QUOTED IN THE AVERAGE NIGHTLY RATE!!!!!!!! My three night stay cost an additional $260 at check-in ($85/ night)! These fees were nowhere in the booking info which I even checked prior to departure. This is a 700+ unit condo with about 300 rentals through various management companies. Each unit is individually owned so, depending how you book, you might end up disappointed. Booking through Expedia (or another large operator like TripAdvisor) gives you more flexibility as the main management company handles the Expedia account and able to provide better problem resolution. My unit was clean but dated and worn. By no estimation could it be considered luxurious. Everything worked as necessary including HVAC, elevators, appliances, plumbing, and TV/ cable. The common areas of the property show some age and miles but it’s easy to overlook. There’s a huge parking garage for so many units. There are two switch backs per floor which can make you dizzy to get to the level of your space. I sent an email ahead of time to request parking on my unit’s floor which was accommodated. Some folks park on 11 but stay on the 23rd floor so I’d imagine that could be aggravating. The additional cleaning and resort fees really need to be included in the “nightly average” because this added to the total and would have impacted my choice of this property. I was here for the Ironman and made my decision based on location, kitchen, and price.
Great place to get anything for the wedding birthday or anything in between. The Christmas shop is wonderful. The staff are very helpful and one of the owners has been in the business for 40 years and I have seen her bouquet making first hand. The flowers were beautiful.
Will never ever ever stay here again! When I made reservations I was told that the 2 rooms I had reserved and paid in full for at the time of reserving them would be on the same floors (since there’s 23 floors I wanted to make sure that our family was close). When I checked in I was told we we would be on complete different floors and there was not a thing that could be done about it. We got stuck between 7th and 8th floors with only 5 people in elevator (so it was not over crowded), after talking to several other people we learned the day before several got stuck for 5 hours on same elevator. The staff were all rude .. to the point I asked if they were all miserable and completely hated their jobs. My Nike shoes got stole from the pool area. I could go on and on how miserable our 5 night stay was here. Needless to say we will never step foot back on these premises!
This place was by far the worst place we have ever stayed in pcb. Broken elevators, maze for a parking deck, locked stairs, and then had to cancel debit card for fraud after leaving because they claimed to have a "glitch" and kept making charges after we were 5 hours away. After a week of trying to reach someone ANYONE who could refund the money, finally threatened to sue and was refunded. Still never got a manager on the phone.
This was the second time we have stayed in Shores of Panama on a girls trip. The first time was a few years ago and we had a great time. We obviously didn't experience any issues that would have kept us from staying again. This time, our experience was way different and will keep us from staying here ever again. First of all, the elevator situation is out of control. We waited 20-30 minutes for elevators on several occasions (no exaggeration). On our last day, we waited 25 minutes before finally hauling all of our luggage down 12 flights of stairs just so we could leave. Half the time, only a few of the elevator were working...and by working I mean at least you could get on them and visit every single floor on the way up or down (even though no buttons were pressed and no one was waiting at the floors it stopped on). It was incredibly frustrating. To top it off, one bay of elevators obviously stopped working (after the fire department came and got people that were stuck in them) and did they bother to put an out-of-order sign on them? No! Hotel security is ridiculous. They say there is no saving chairs at the pool with towels, but we only saw them enforce this rule on the last day we were there-Saturday- and only once. Also, they were extremely mean to children when they were enforcing rules (and I don't have children nor do I like them all that much, but I thought they were exceptionally mean to them. More bullying than gently enforcing the rules). This hotel is just tired and in need of renovation and new management. Stay here if you don't mind getting stuck in an elevator or, at the very least, waiting 20 minutes to get on one.
We stayed 10/11-10/14. They care more about the outward appearance than the unit or guests. I had to book last minute because of our previous accommodations falling through. I agree with the latest reviews about parking (absolutely awful!). I thought “at least they have plenty of security” but it didn’t stop my 10 yr old and 6 yr old witness a drunk bleeding man stumble from the stairwell and fall on the ground. The room was dated and barely adequate. The TVs wouldn’t work or the WiFi- I think because you can only connect 2 devices. When I called the front desk, they suggested I try other room passwords. So it was no wonder we couldn’t connect. We stayed on the 11th floor and parked on the same level, thank goodness! The elevators were slow and one was out of order part of one day. The pool area was beautiful but the water was too cold to enjoy. Be forewarned you can’t hang towels on the balcony - they will send a security guard to correct you. What a joke! We’ll never stay here again.
All of the negative reviews are on point...but there are work arounds if you’re willing to get up early and make your plans around the busy times. Yes, the parking garage is a disaster because of the tight spots, turn radius’ and pillars. The height is 6’11” maximum, we were in a loaner truck this time but our diesel super duty wouldn’t have made it had we brought it. Beat the elevator and beach rush by using them early, get your running around done early morning or late night. Get your beach spot early...personal chairs were already being set out at 6 am. There is the smallest beach access I’ve seen for a condo this big, it’s pretty cramped. The pool is one of the best I’ve seen, but once again, very crowded. Won’t stay here again, just because we like a more serene, less “happening” place. The condo we had was a great size and view, just heard LOTS of noise from above and below us as well as hearing the pool noise at night. The king bed was leaning badly down towards the head end...it was tolerable but not the most comfortable.
The condo was nice and clean, but the elevators were all either broken, or took 15 minutes to get to you, the parking is AWFUL..and the bed was so stiff I was in pain the entire trip just from trying to sleep a few hours a night. Wont be staying here ever again.
Think before you book. Asking for a specific room will not help. We were told we would have a certain room and we were informed by the rude front desk clerk that they choose the rooms the day before you check in. Even know we had a reservation that listed DO NOT MOVE when we asked for the manager, we were told he would be in at 9 the next morning Then when we settled for the room that was offered, none of the TV's work. Then when we went looking for help the clerk put up a sign said back in 30 minutes. Think before book.
