The staff are nice but just that. The hotel is very old and smelly, WiFi almost Non existent, smelly rooms, incredibly noisy, breakfast so so and the cherry on top of this ghastly pie is the fact that it is being refurbished and scaffolded and so it is like being inside a construction job. U describable and also unforgivable how they receive guests without warning them about this extra nuisance.
We liked the hotel, it is centrally located and close to everything. Personal is kind and helpful. They helped with the parking for the rent a car, and answered all our questions. Also, the breakfast is good. I would stay here again.
The hotel is located in the old building in the city centre. It is being renovated at the moment so I wasn’t able to use the balcony which was the shame as it has a view to the Politeama square. The bathroom needs renovation as well as it is rather old fashioned. The room was cozy and nice. Staff very helpful. The breakfast is extraordinary- one of the best I have ever eaten. Because of this the hotel gets the highest grade
The hotel exterior was being refurbished, and construction tools were the sight from the window, but except for that, rooms were more than spacious, huge, with two bathrooms completely functional and a "living room" separate from the bedroom. Maybe not luxury for today standards, but probably some time ago. Excellent attention from the staff. More than excellent location to know the city, in front of the Politeama Garibaldi Theater. The place for breakfast was almost external to the hotel, in a type of basement, and seems to be other place, but it was very spacious and excellent in variety and quality.
Paid around E250 for a small suite with very high ceilings and inner court view. Very clean, well appointed, more than decent bathroom shelving, excellent service, and breakfast. However, rooms needed painting and new upholstery. For the weekdays we were there, no workers present on the scaffolding . This scaffolding extends into the rather busy street- so could feel like a hazard when traffic was heavy. As others have said, the location is excellent - especially as cabs are terrifically pricy.
Spent 2 nights in early Oct. Got a very good rate at our time of booking so although the hotel has a few shortcomings that might caused a problem at full rates we rated it very highly. Plus points: + very centrally located. walking distance to theatres, shops, restaurants. esp useful if using prestia e comande bus to/from airport as it stops right outside the door going/close coming. Also bus 101 from stazione centrale (every 5 mins, 1.40, easier than a taxi) stops outside the door. + rooms/bathroom well furnished if getting a little rough at edges + very little street noise at least in the room we occupied on 7th floor. +excellent breakfast easily best at rates we were paying. + good helpful staff at reception and in the restaurant minus points - hotel is in process of being refurbished so scaffolding on front. Seems to be a slow process - we saw no workmen while we were there during normal working days. Refurbishment didn't really bother us at all apart from visual appearance of the scaffolding. - hotel is getting a little rough around edges, at least on the 7th floors on which we stayed (presumably why refurbishment needed) - nothing too bad but if paying a high rate it might bother you.
Very nice location in front of Garibaldi Theater. Today hotel is under reconstruction, but I’m sure It will be really great. Spacious but a little bit dark room, high quality bathroom accessories, towels and bedding, welcome fruit plate. I liked wall sockets near bed. Its ease charge phone and don’t run to turn off the alarm clock in the morning. Minus is to short shower curtains so all water goes on the floor. Wonderful breakfast choice with fresh orange juice, good coffee, tasty cakes and even prosecco. Professional helpful staff.
We stayed here for two nights. The location of the hotel is great as most of the tourist destinations are no more that 20-30mins walk away. The hotel does offer car parking at 13 euros per day. The rooms are a bit tired and the bathroom was small with a curtain round the small shower. Rooms are also very dark (not helped by the scaffolding that is still round the hotel). Breakfast selection is ok. The hotel also has the smallest but fastest lifts we've ever been in. Overall the hotel is ok but will be much better once the upgrades are completed.
My friend Branko Milicevic & I spent five summer days enjoying the exciting and picturesque Mediterranean City of Palermo in Sicily, Italy. We stayed at the excellent Politeama Palace Hotel, which is conveniently located on the edge of the huge central plaza. The staff was friendly & helpful; the hotel offers large comfortable rooms & an excellent downstairs restaurant. Higher floors have some rooms with a fantastic view of the splendid city center; in fact, our own room looked out upon the iconic concert hall! Each morning, after a delightful breakfast, we spent hours exploring this subtropical urban environment with our cameras. Fortunately, everything was walking distance from our hotel. Two massive buildings were especially spectacular and they beckoned to be photographed: the Teatro Politeama Concert Hall and the Teatro Massimo Opera House. Also inviting were the nearby city parks with their palm trees, marble statues, & large monuments. On our walk to the harbor under a clear sky, there were blocks of engaging architecture to be photographed, not to forger taking pictures at the main port of Messina itself. For tourists, there are plenty of cafes and souvenir venders with unique ceramic and wooden items, as well as T-shirts. Branko enjoyed shopping at sport stores, e.g., Adidas & Locker Room. NOTE: many Sicilians do not speak fluent English. I enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere & sunny environment of this city. The only disappointment for us was that the opera season had ended.
My wife & I returned to Palermo after visiting last year around this same time of year. It's a bustling metropolis full of the force of la vita di Siciliani. The hotel we stayed in previously was booked so we made a spontaneous selection nearby. The desk clerk was friendly but not very thorough neglecting to inform of us of the accompanying breakfast we were entitled to, where it would be served & the time parameters. The room floor was dirty but the bathroom was very clean. The entire façade of the hotel was encased in scaffolding & green netting obscuring the view of the spectacular Teatro Massimo robbing all the allure of the balcony. We arrived late for breakfast but the staff, who had just begun taking the food away, encouraged us to help ourselves & were very accommodating despite our tardiness. They extended the same courtesy to a couple with a baby who came in 10 minutes after us. We have mixed feelings about our stay here & suggest our fellow travelers research thoroughly the state of the construction project before deciding to drop €180 on a room at this establishment.
