My friend and I were looking at options for a well deserved spa retreat in the UK and stumbled across the Abano Terme region in Italy and decided that this was a much preferred option to the UK expensive spa breaks. We were not disappointed! Hotel was a little gem with everything you could ask for on a two day chilled break. Hotel room was clean , spacious with lovely views of the hills and Italian countryside. Service was excellent and breakfast croissants were the best I had tasted. So fresh and warm. Plenty of choice in other options too together with a decent cappuccino to wash it all down. Hotel very central right in the town which was quaint and full of lovely bars and cafes to sit and watch the world go by. The thermal pool was like walking into a hot bath, just perfect. Will definitely return .
Most of the hotels in the town seem to have their own thermal pools and we were certainly happy with the pools and facilities here at a reasonable price. It was actually one large thermal pool which extended inside. There were several areas with jacuzzi jets, plus a sauna and steam room. Sunbeds surrounded the pools, and there were thicker mattresses available for many of these. Every weekday at 5pm there was a free aqua gym session. Cycle hire was free and plenty of bikes were available. Our room was superb -spacious, comfortable and with a dual aspect balcony. It could be converted to either twin beds or a double. Breakfast was good, with fresh fruit, cooked items and a pancake and omelette stations. The hotel was extremely quiet and centrally located, ( the town itself is very quiet and not for those seeking vibrant nightlife, but great for relaxing ). We had good beauty treatments in the hotel Spa for around 35 euros for a 25 min session. Our only complaint was with the shuttle service arranged by the hotel to the airport. ..we were quoted 70 euro each way to Treviso, but the price was actually 100 each way. It was a lovely place to relax for a few days, and we'd definitely return.
The room was clean, staff helpful, breakfast nice. Pool was clean as well. The only thing I wasn't happy about is that the lighting in the room was really scarce, there were only 1-2 lamps per room on the walls and it was really dark in the room in the evening. The rest was fine for a short stay. The hotel is old and could use a bit of renovating, but everything was fine.
This is my second Easter holiday in the Abano-Montegrotto area and while I have so far enjoyed spending time with my kids at the big pools and doing the occasional spa treatment, I always struggle to understand why most of the hotels here seems to be happy to run like if we are still in the '60s , with the full board rigid arrangements , tired decor, lack of facilities for young families... Etc etc. Said that the Helvetia provided us with a Fairly large room at a very reasonable price which is pretty much (almost) all I wanted from them. I would go back.
This town is full of hotels with pools built around hot springs. We stayed here one night and unfortunately did not get to enjoy the pool (we arrived late) but we checked it out and it's beautifully set up. I'd come back to try it. Our room was very large and clean. The bed was firm which we like. If it was high season I'd worry a bit about the sound proofing. I could hear the people above us talking. But this time of year the noise didn't disturb us. The breakfast is yummy! A cook is there to make you an omelet or crepes plus there's the usual European fare. It's well worth a stay here for the lovely pool area and breakfast alone!
Terme Helvetia was selected as our Hotel by our tour company and we were not disappointed. The hotel is conveniently located for our side trips to Padua and Venice as well as a day of golf on our leisure day during the 3 days we stayed there. The rooms were a little small and the furnishings dated, but the bed was comfortable, the breakfast was good and the free Wifi service was adequate. It was a short walk to the centre of town for shopping and dining. The pool area is probably the biggest attraction for the hotel, and we made use of it on all the days we were there. I would have no hesitation in staying here again or recommending to friends travelling in the area.
the Service was very good. The room was excellent! The hotel is situated in the centre of Abano, many shops and restaurants are available. The pool or the terme is all day available, temperature 32°C. Massages on short time to organise and perfektly done!
Veramente il posto bellisimo, in una zona molto calma. Abbiamo fatto insieme a mio ragazzo paio di massaggi ed bagno in piscina copera e scoperta. Hotel molto pullito, lo stuff carino, aiutavano molto a noi. I really liked our stay in this hotel.Rooms was big and so comfortable, then we had a dinner in restaurant of this hotel. We had as well some massagges which was amazing :) I reccomend this place really, no too expensive and many things to do :))
Booked room for 3, there was not enough towels and no soap nor shampoo. Evening desk service did not believe my room didn't even have soap dispenser. Offered to show him but he refused to go. He said its my fault that i told him at 9 pm and nothing he could do to get towels and soap. I was really upset when he yelled at me, only after i started to be rude finally got some soap and shampoo out of the service room. Breakfast buffet was ok, but waiters were in bad mood both mornings. Swimming pool was nice. No way it's a 4 star hotel!
Why were we in Abano Terme this year? Because Padua and environs hosted Roger waters and the last tour of The Wall at the Eugenio Stado - 13 kms from Abano Terme. We chose Helvetia becaus eof the fab reviews of its pools and room size - we were not disappointed by both. However this was my first experience with systematic bad - not poor- food in Italy- at breakfast - Helvetia - is quite inedible- poor quality meats, juice, bread and creal- so gave breakfast a miss after the first morning. We refused to try any other meal in the hotel - but were so disappointed by all the restaurants that we just gave up and reverted to lots of groceries from the large supermarket in the centre of town. the only real exquisite true to form Italian meal we had was in Verona on our way home. back to the hotel- the room was superb- a suite - with large bedroom and large queen for our twins to share in an adjoining room, great large bathroom with tub and seperate shower and massive balcony. Housekeeping services were excellent leaving the rooms spotless everyday. Amenities were minimal- but we did not mind. The pools were superb- 2 large pools- one outdoor and one indoor heated to 33 degrees and open till 23.00 hrs. The various massge fixtures and jacuzzis in the pool were great and the best timing - after sundown when little kids had left for bed. of special mention was the head chef who very kindly gave us a bucket of ice on request to chill our wine on our balcony. Also excellent was the night manager who was unphased when we asked for teh bicycles at 11.30 pm to go and get ice cream. oh this is an excellent service- free bikes for 2 hours each. we used them everyday and saw the Abano terme and environs on these . not sure I would go back to Helvetia - as this is a relly dire Italian town- with nothing really to offer- but cannot fault the hotel for that! Helvetia could do with a culinary makeover though!
