I was a bit apprehensive about even going to this resort after reading some of the reviews ( one was for Lucaya so not this resort) Our unit was OK by us but it does need some upgrades. Our unit was #46 and there needs to be more signage. No front desk and yes a 7 digit access code that didn't always work the 1st time but no big deal. Some have complained about supplies but we had all we needed ( paper towels, TP, 3 dishwasher cubes, dish soap and I really like the idea of bathroom sink and shower dispensers full of shampoo and shower gel which saves the land fills of 1,000's of small bottles) Bedrooms were spacious and mattresses seemed new with no creaking. Rugs and furniture definitely need upgrading but they were adequate. One thing I can complain about is the pet policy. I specifically chose this resort because it was pet friendly and I have a very small 10 month old puppy. I called to insure all was OK with my reservation and was told that only "owners" and not guests or renters were allowed to bring pets. My dog stayed with friends since doggy hotels were not an option. I was not able to get a refund or cancel my reservation or change locations so I went and tried to enjoy it. Also the thermostat is controlled remotely by Blue Tooth so it can bet set to come on but does not respond during the night. Lucky for us it was moderate weather. Also two lamps in the bedroom but no overhead light on the 1970's ceiling fan. Clothes dryer vented into bathroom causing excess moisture to form on bathroom walls and ceiling which is a potential for mold to form. I may return to this resort and I know now what to expect. A short walk 2 or 3 blocks north or south to cross Coastal Highway to get to the beach which is 3 blocks away east. A few restaurants within one or two blocks ( not all open during the week in mid November but some opened on Thursday-Sunday, a medical facility 2 blocks away and a strip of shops with indoor and outdoor mini golf and arcade 3 blocks away. Supermarkets are about 20 blocks away. I'd give this resort a mid range rating, not the best and not the worst. Not really what you would expect to be RCI rated but I know they have some other bad ones.
Where to begin? Are you looking for a nice relaxing trip where you can unwind in a resort type setting and catch up on much needed rest? Well, look somewhere else! The Lucayan "Resort" offers unique excursions where you have the opportunity to spend the first 40 minutes of your trip trying to even find your room. Awful way finding signage will lead you through the depths of narrow poorly lit corridors that are only missing a heroine addict passed out on the floor with a needle still in their arm. Finally you'll make your way to your room, where your next challenge will be to input a 47 digit security code - probably the same code used by the last poor souls that stayed in your room. You open the door - and feel somewhat relieved. New flooring, granite counter tops. You might even tell yourself, "Okay, this I think I can do...". Your next step is to retire to the bathroom for a nice shower. After turning the 1970 era handles 47 rotations in random directions water begins to flow from the shower head at the rate of which one might experience while reliving themselves with a urinary tract infection. Inexplicably the temperature from this trickle of water fluctuates from freezing to melt your face off within a matter of seconds. After enjoying your shower, complete with 3rd degree burns, you decide to rest on the bed. You quickly discover yourself trapped in the bed as the rock hard mattress from the 1980's collapses in on itself. Somehow you manage to drift off to sleep and awake a short time later to use the bathroom where you notice the exhaust fan missing and about half the ceiling covered in BLACK MOLD. You tolerate it until the morning when you go to leave and discover the elevator is broken. When you call to complain to customer service you get the run around. In short, this place is deceptively photographed and any renovations that have taken place are nothing short of putting lipstick on a pig.
Check in was easy, make sure you save the phone number to call and get your room number and code for entry. Outside is updated, inside is ok. Furnishings are fairly new but cheep. Bedspreads and pillows not so nice, and beds are hard as a rock. Lots of space inside the condo. One bathroom was huge because at one time there was a tub but not there anymore. Fixtures and decor were cheep, some of the lightbulbs were burnt out. LOTS of mirrors everywhere. Sliding mirrors broken and taped up. All hardwood floors throughout, we took our two small dogs so that was good. Only reason we stayed here was because we wanted to travel with our dogs and places to stay are limited. Very loud, especially on the weekend. This place is so so if you want a place close to the beach and you wish to travel with pets during the busy season. We will not be returning due to the late night parties and thin walls. The condo was clean upon arrival and the people that I spoke to on the phone were very nice. One other thing, don't expect to be able to connect to the free wifi.
The room was decent, would have liked to change the thermostat but that is not an issue. Pool was very nice and clean. Lots of room to swim and have fun. Room was clean with a few stains on the carpet, which is to be expected. Very nice bathrooms and large bedrooms. Only issue would be a loud buzz for the dryer that is in the one bedroom. Could have done without that. Realized had to do clothes when we were not going to sleep. Location is fine on the bay but was not close to the beach had to walk about 5 blocks to the ocean side beach and cross Coastal Highway - unless at a crosswalk very dangerous.
Booked all inclusive worst vacation, bar doesn't open until 11am closed at 10pm. Can only use a few or the restaurants, and only two bars areas, Poorly staffed, waited 2 hours for a sandwich. One bartender for many people. Food was poor quality. Ended up going over to the market place to eat and drink. Biggest waste of $$. When we checked out at 9:30am they removed wrist band so we couldn't eat or Drink the rest of the day and our cruise didn't leave until 6 pm. So we essential pair all inclusive price for 2 days and paid for 3. Wouldn't recommend this to anyone
The exterior looks nice, new siding, new vinyl fencing, composite balcony decking, parking lot nicely paved & striped ; however, the interior furnishings are very dated. The kitchen is average, cabinets & counter tops are fairly new. If I were an owner (I'm a member of RCI & traded for this stay), I would want to know where my maintenance fees were going. New lamps, a comfortable chair & sofa in the living room would be a nice upgrade. Staff was only on the phone but they were nice. I've been a member of RCI since 1980 and this unit is in the lower 10% of RCI units where I have stayed. That is why I could not rate the unit as average.
Really a condo rather than a resort (although there is a seasonal pool outside) as there is no office on site or other amenities. The unit was spacious with its own balcony (bay view), laundry facilities and real fireplace. However, it was obviously showing its age and the jacuzzi didn't work. There were also fleas in the carpet (maybe because they will accept dogs?) and I got bitten a few times. In summer this would be a great base for the beach and shops
We were there the beginning of December 2015. First off the week we went down was unseasonably warm. That allowed us to bring our dog the two blocks to the beach. That was the best thing about this poor example of a "Resort". Others have already spoken about an unmanned management office onsite and the necessity for a long code each time you came into your room. But here are some things we found irksome.--Even though the resort was empty they gave us a suite that overlooked the parking lot when the bayside suites went unused. Only two burners worked on the stove. There was no toaster. There was one roll of paper towels for an entire week as well as three trash bags and 4 rolls of toilet paper. There were only a few pots and the ones they had were the cheapest I've ever seen. The beds were horrible. The sheets were cheap and didn't fit the beds. The pillows were made of lumps. The tub was an old, as from the 70's, jacuzzi tub that had no stair going up making it useless. The shower had these odd seat-like structures that precluded one from actually standing under the water. The washer and dryer were in a closet in the master bedroom which meant it could only be used when the room was empty. The dishwasher was the cheapest sold I'm sure with no baffling. It was do bad we couldn't hear each other talk much less watch TV while it was on. By the way, there were only 3 dishwasher cubes, one wash-rag, one potholder , no coffee or filters, and no soap for the washing machine. I really hated the very dated and worn out place. I would have gone home except my friends were just happy to be near the beach. I was not too thrilled but because I didn't want to upset them I bit my tongue an awful lot!
We love taking our dog on vacation here. The views from our unit was amazing to see every morning and sunset. This is only a quiet relaxing holiday lots of places are closed for the season but we manage to get by. The dog is allowed to go to the beach. The cost for the dog is 75 dollars for the week and yes it is a pain with seven digit door code to get in but you get use to it very quickly. Golf courses have all reduced there rates for golf ideal for us.
This review is a difficult on for me, as my feelings about Lucayan are very mixed. When we arrived at the resort I knew based off of the numerous Trip Advisor reviews that yo have to call for your "room code and assignment". This part was extremely smooth. Once we got to our assigned room it was about 4:15pm. And the room was just starting to be cleaned and made up by the staff. We were told we would need to wait about 30 minutes before we could go in. This was irritating as we have two small children one of them who is nursing and both who needed diaper changes (parental problems). We waited patiently and kept the kids occupied for the half hour they requested. When we finally were able to get in to the room we were hit with the extremely strong odor of cigarette smoke. I mean REALLY strong, the room was laden with it. It was so disappointing because the accommodations were great! The room was beautifully decorated and modern. It had a great beach feel to it. I called Management and explained the situation. I told them I was allergic to cigarette smoke and I was concerned about my two young children. They were very courteous, understanding, apologetic and responsive. I can't tout this enough. They offered to move us right away and thanked me for telling them as all their suites are non-smoking. We got our new room assignment and code and when we traveled upstairs to move we were once again greeted by the same cleaning staff in our newly assigned room. You guessed it, 30 min wait. We waited. Once we got into our new unit my face fell and my mood darkened. This unit (while smoke free) was the polar opposite from the one we just came from. Everything was VERY OLD and outdated. Straight out of the 60's it looked. The linoleum floor in the kitchen was damaged and buckling very badly causing huge hazardous bumps in the center of the kitchen floor that I tripped on often absent mindedly ( I had to keep the kids out of the kitchen area) The furniture was dated and dingy. The bathrooms had no tub stoppers and floor of the shower in the master was dirt stained (permanently). The head board on the master bed was not fully attached and banged against the wall with the slightest shift during sleep. The mattress was terrible. The list goes on. The worst part was one night someone walked in our room. They were given the code by mgmt. A double booking. I was out at the time, but this was scary for my family. All in all, I just don't know how i feel about this place. I
