Red Lion Hotel Oakland International Airport

3.0 out of 5.0

Recent guest reviews

Upon arriver staff not friendly and seemed impatient when asked questions or not understood quickly because of their foreign accent. Beverage dispenser out of water, went from 5th fl to lobby, told to go to machine on 2nd fl.--also empty. Went back to lobby, had to wait for service and told receptionist (2 on duty, one helping other guest one typing in computer) 2nd fl dispenser also out of water he let out big sigh and handed me a water bottle from a stack on side counter-- without a word of apology for my up and down trips. Also, rooms did not have any written information in the room on amenities, breakfast served time and checkout time. Breakfast served from 6:30-9 am only-fine for business people but not for vacationers or guests with children. I paid for breakfast and we couldn't make it by 9am.

Quite surprised this place was so decent based on so many negative reviews but it was fine! Shuttle wasn't super timely but they came after I called; check in was super easy; I got a nice clean room in the tower on the 6th floor that was quiet and safe. The maid had even done a bunch of that folding decoration with the toilet paper and towels- showed they are trying- and the shampoos and soap was high quality stuff. The breakfast wasn't great but it was enough before my flights (the coffee that day was so bad I went back to my room to make it but that was fine) and the shuttle back to airport was very fast. Basically if you are on vacation in the area you shouldn't be staying in that neighborhood anyway, unless you have business in the area or game to attend, but for an overnight needing quick access to Oakland airport this was perfect and quite comfortable.

Check-in process took 1 hour because the system was down. Had to contact Orbitz myself even after giving confirmation #. Sheets had sand from previous guests. Credit card was charged again for the room I already paid for through Orbitz even after I informed them that I paid already. Will not be back.

The staff and maintenance crew were polite and knowledgeable about the site and the surrounding community.

The hotel isn't close to many restaurants. The neighborhood is not really one you would want to take a walk in. Checking in was OK. There is an $8 per day parking fee. They double their rates if there is a Raider's game. There is room service and a place to eat on the property. I didn't order any food or eat in the restaurant. The room was nice and clean. It faced San Francisco but there wasn't a view of the city. There is a very busy street in front of the hotel and it is very noise even with the windows closed when facing that direction. The room included a refrigerator and microwave. The WiFi reception and speed were good. The shower head was good and delivered lots of water with good water pressure. The shower head was on the short side so even if you are short like me you have to lean back or forward to get under the spray. The overall experience was OK having to pay for parking was the biggest irritant. When I checked in they asked me to sign a form. I decided to read it and it included a statement that I agreed to pay a $50 early checkout fee. I requested that the manager agree not to charge me that fee if I do leave early. He did. I would only recommend this hotel if it is close to your destination or the rate seems to be acceptable. It's nothing exceptional.

fast check in, great last minute deal, clean and comfy.

Nice hotel, clean room & pool. Close to airport. It could use some updates but then I would expect to pay more $$$$$. Good bargain.

From start to finish, my stay here was a disaster. Even telling me the wrong place to wait for the hotel shuttle! No breakfast provided despite their website saying it was included. Lots of problems with little things in the room from closet doors off their track, to curtain lever that broke off, to the ice machine on my floor being out of service...and the major issue of getting NO housekeeping service for my entire three night stay. (They actually lied and said they saw a DND sign on the door...and when I called to complain the front desk said someone would be up...and never did!) Finally, that was the lamest "fitness center" I have ever seen, including pretty much all the weight machines broken and un-useable due to missing pins, stuck cables, and even un-oiled parts that made screeching noises in the little box of a room.

Nice hotel near airport and friendly staff. Driver was on time for pick up.

Red Lion is a clean, comfortable hotel with all the basic amenities. Its economical and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Hot breakfast (additional fee) is very good with good choices.

nice stay but breakfast was confusing, ran out of eggs and sasauge.

This hotel was in a creepy part of town. It was close to the airport and the car rental by the airport (10 minute drive). and fairly easy to get on the 880 It was a little run down, but it worked for the one night I was there. You have to pay additional for parking and the hallways smelled gross. The floors in the bathroom and the railings were sticky. Also, it was freezing. We had the heater running all night, and there weren't sufficient blankets on the bed. I would look for someplace else to stay in the future.

Have to say that the front desk was one of the least friendly I've yet to encounter. We checked in late and unpacked toiletries and such. We got in pjs and discovered that every time the tv gets turned on - either manually or by remote, the volume starts out FULL BLAST. Whoa shockingly loud. Thought maybe user error, tried again, blasted. Tried manual, blasted. Tried to call front desk, none of the assigned buttons worked. Walked to front desk and they had maintenance come up and inspect the tv. He revealed that they knew one of the tvs had a problem and hadn't been fixed. Outrageous that they didn't close down the room until fixing it. Called front desk (the usual dial zero) after departure of maintenance and they said we could move rooms which means packing up, changing clothes, etc. Since booked through a third party, they refused a small discount for the inconvenience of either moving or staying put. Shower had mold in each corner of tub. Room smelled like old and cleaner combined. Front desk was also unfriendly on the phone as well as in person. The parking voucher did not work at the exit, front desk had to be buzzed. I'd never return, ever.

I am recommending it just because it is close to Oakland airport and also offers free shuttle to airport and also to BART station. I also got it at a discounted rate. Old furniture. Big CRT TV with a flat screen (not exactly state of the art and you can't swivel it around like a normal plasma, LCD, LED). Was in a TOWER room (3rd floor), you can hear the noise from the street traffic. Better be a heavy sleeper or ask to be at a higher floor. Stains on the chairs. Parking is not free. Staff was very helpful. WiFi was fast. Faster than most hotels that I know.

The room was nice. The bed was uncomfortable. The sink area was in a weird small spot. The blow dryer was old & smells really bad. The tub drain stopper was broken. T.V. has a long delay when your trying to turn it off. Overall it was ok room for one night.

I called the hotel to let them know if our late arrival. We checked into the hotel around 1 am and were disturbed by staff opening our room door at 6.30 am, then closed it with a loud bang, we lost our sleep and checkout. Asked for a manager to call us and they didn't, front staff was very curt and no greetings or smile on her face! Very dark areas around the hotel! Bed was hard and uncomfortable.

this was a trip for business that i extended for vacation purposes. the location was convenient to the airport but distant from everything else. the staff was very helpful and made me feel welcomed. i felt comfortable there and if it were not for the location i would make this my primary place to stay while in Oakland.

Close to the airport. The parking is a bit of a hassle as you have to pay for it. Also wasn't told I had to go outside to my room. But nice enough for what I needed.

The hotel is near the airport and is an excellent value.

Great experience , the only bad thing was that the elevators weren't working and our room was n the 4th floor.

We would like to start by sincerely apologizing for the inconvenience that was caused due to our unexpected system outage. Please know that this is not typical and we are very sorry for the billing and room issues that this created during your stay. We will work with our front desk staff in order to be better equipped for issues like this in the future. We will also be speaking to our housekeeping staff to determine why the room was not cleaned to our standards prior to your check-in. Again, we deeply regret that we did not provide our standard level of service during your stay and we hope to have the opportunity to make this up to you in the future. Please reach out to us for assistance in resolving any ongoing billing issues.

Dear John, You were not charged for early check out. We only have 6 floors therefore you cannot see San Francisco or downtown Oakland. We charge for parking as well do all hotels in the area; we charge the lowest amount and are very happy to say that. We thank you for your review. Sincerely,
