Great Hotel Good.location

Alas, a shadow of its former self. Still a lovely historic spot, with the stylish albeit faded interior design Ian Schrager brought in when he owned it as The Public over 10 years ago. The staff is non existent—the front desk largely empty and the restaurant closed without warning for 3 straight days. The bar is minimal (who doesn’t stock Amaro in 2024?) But the rooms are spacious and light with solid furnishings (though we heard every word of our next door neighbors). Hope this place gets a shape up and return to its former glory soon.

This property is beautiful. I will definitely stay here again when I’m in town. Very friendly staff.

Boutique style hotel, staff was very attentive and friendly. Many places to eat and drink only a few blocks away. Lake is also only a few blocks away.

Clean, walking distance to dining and entertainment.

We stay here quite often when we go to Chicago. The hotel rooms are old, small and dated. However, the staff is incredible, the lobby is beautiful, and the location can’t be beat if you want to walk to the lake, which is only a couple blocks away. There is a reason why it’s not expensive, but I still give it four so stars.

great hotel in great location

I have stayed at The Ambassador Chicago many times. Love the history, charm, location, and kind staff. However, this stay was frustrating and disappointing. Assigned Room 812. A small room located outside the lobby elevator. Room was clean but bed mattress was uncomfortable. It has a small worn out bathroom (water from the shower ends up all over the floor because the shower curtain is too short.) The tile was scuffed and grey (it’s supposed to be white). I figured we were given this room as a “punishment” for reserving through Orbitz and not directly with the hotel (the hotel was not busy or lacking available rooms). When checking out we were charged an additional “nightly fee” - another strike for not reserving directly with the hotel. Sadly, I will not return here. There are, of course, many other hotels available in Chicago. I had just grown fond of this one.

Great location. Could not get a second towel for our room after three calls to front desk!

It located in a quiet nice residential area. About 2 blocks to the beach (lake), less than 10 minutes walk to public transit and restaurants.

Great location. Rooms could use new carpet but otherwise a fantastic hotel. I will stay here again!!!

Awesome location. I can walk to the lake, mag mile, oak street, Gibson's Nice lobby, vintage rooms remodeled tastefully And a pretty good deal

Ambassador Chicago is my favorite place to stay when visiting this great city. This old beauty is located in a quiet neighborhood not too far from Lake Michigan. You can walk to Old Town where there are plenty of restaurants and stores to explore. On my recent visit, I stayed in room 314. The room was clean, surprisingly quiet, and the king size bed was amazingly comfortable. The water pressure in the shower was excellent. Just remember, this is an old hotel. She's got her quirks but it's part of the charm. Sit by the fireplace located in the lobby area, visit the lower level to view the photos of many famous "stars" who have stayed here through the years. The staff are welcoming and responsive. Please note that the rooms do not have mini-bars, microwaves, or minibars. No room service either. This shouldn't stop you from staying here though. I highly recommend you check it out!

Easy walk to the air & water show N.Ave. Beach. Restaurant & bar hours open all day which is very convenient & food is good. The big tv made up for the low bed. No blow dryer in room. Pet friendly. Staff super friendly. I’d return.

Clean room in a great location. We would stay there again.
