Yet another sci-fi weekend convention, yet another great experience. Staff are friendly and helpful, rooms are comfy, food is pretty good for the price you pay. Special mention to Ashley and John who have both been instrumental in making a good stay extra special with their welcome and outstanding service.
We come here every year in November for a convention. The staff have always impressed us, efficient, super-friendly and helpful attitudes. We were so glad to see how many had stayed with the hotel during the change of ownership, and that the new staff are living up to their standards. The refurbishment is great. One of the things I REALLY REALLY like is the usb and electric sockets by both sides of the bed, I am fed up with hotel rooms where I can't put my phone on charge where I can use it as an alarm clock. Thank you for that! The bar area is much nicer, and the artwork around the public areas certainly sparked a lot of discussion. Very much looking forward to coming again next year.
As a member of this gym if has over the years gone through many changes and some would say the gym is quite small but for me it's the perfect size as I don't feel intimidated and everyone is friendly, it's more of a family run business, other members are friendly and it makes it a pleasure to attend. I have noticed recently how clean the spa facilities are, for example the area around the pool and spa is immaculate which is credit to the staff.... TJ is always helpful and friendly... keep up the good work.
Sadly the visit was not a success. When my partner arrived on the Sunday afternoon she was immediately compelled to pay the full stay bill to obtain the room key. As a Silver card holder I have never had this attitude or approach before. the night of her arrival, Sunday, when she went down for dinner she was told the dining room was closed as there was a lack of business. As she had not eaten all day with travelling she insisted on having something cooked as it was part of the hotel service and she believed was part of the charter that Mercure operates under. She was offered what was on the menu but was then told there was no fish and steak and ended up having abowl of soup, cheeseburger at £15, and a glass of wine, - the total available. This fell totally short of the standard expected of Mercure hotel standards. To crown it all she was advised she would have to eat in the bar area on a side table for drinks. She insisted on a table in the dining area. The other failure was that having had an eye operation she required to keep her eyes and head totally dry, which proved impossible as the shower had no hand set but comprised of a "waterfall" type ceiling shower which she could not use and apparently when she asked to move to one with a bath she was advised there were only three rooms with baths - all in use. When I arrived the next day, I found the car parking very confusing with little direction where to park for the hotel, and despite my partner trying to register the car number as required at the reception desk, they refused to do so until I arrived. As a result of the Sunday night restaurant experience we chose to eat out on the Monday night, where we had a full range of food available. As a result of her experiences and lack of suitable room we decided to cut short our visit and move on to a Mercure Hotel in Chester near our final destination. Fortuitously they agreed to a refund of the final nights accommodation, without argument. Isubsequently ascertained that the hotel was new to Accor Mercure group, having previously been run as a Radison Blu hotel. IF that was their standard it certainly does not meet the standard I expect from a Mercure Hotel, having had experience in France regularly of a quality service and hotel facilities. I cannot regard this as a satisfactory example of Mercure, which now needs a serious review by an Accor Inspection team, to ensure it meets the groups high standards.
Good ambiance and nice services. Great place to stay. The suite is really big and comfortable for a big family to stay there. Overall, it's wonderful experience. Will come back here for the next trip.Highly recommended for others.
I’ve stayed at this hotel across a number of years for work and have to say I’m always reluctant to stay anywhere else in Nottingham. The hotel has just finished a complete renovation. The rooms are a huge improvement but the reception and bar are far far more welcoming now. As I’ve said above the staff are amazing. Unfair of me to single people out really as everyone works so hard but Fely, Katarina and Jenny deserve medals. They have looked after me for years while I’ve been staying and have never been anything but amazing. Would definitely recommend it (and I do).
We had a great AGM meeting and the facility was well laid out for us. It is a spacious room and fitted well with our plan. The dinner was was good and the staff were very friendly and courteous. Ben and John including other staff members went out of their way to ensure we had all we needed. Looking forward to host another AGM meeting there.
Stayed here for one night when entering our room you could see the view of scaffolding and dirty windows and outside was some kind of pick up service of banging of lorries through out the night and early morning. Stain on bed sheet and no hangers and no plucg fitted in sink 😱 could only get into bed on one side as the other side was up the wall which was a huge inconvenience to get in and out of bed this is not a made up moaning report just facts!
A convenient and comfortable location with an indoor pool for our two-night stay. Not all that far for waking to and from the city centre in preference to driving and the usual parking hassles there. Friendly staff and good service.
Recently undergoing refurbishment, which was still on while we stayed, was disruptive, as the hotel did smell of paint fumes, and obviously work continuing. On arrival, we were greeted well, and we went to our room, however, the room was at the front of the hotel, which was too noisy and the corridor and rooms still had a very strong smell of paint, even my eyes watered. The fumes were bad enough that my partner suffered a reaction, and could not eat breakfast in the restaurant. As paint fume smells were everywhere in the hotel. But the waiter (Ali) took his tray to our room. Ali was extremely polite and helpful, and a very lovely young man. The staff were all polite, however, training is needed as some staff are not aware of what is going on and I feel there is a lack of communication between staff and management. That night we used the pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi, very clean area, and the staff very polite and helpful. It's about the only part of the hotel we had no issues. After a very long day on Tuesday (Away from hotel), we arrived back at 10PM only to find our bed had been made like a child had made it, the damp towels had not been changed neither had the floor been vacuumed. My partner called reception - and was told there are no extra staff available can you come down and collect the towels yourself if you really need them as it is late! Which is what he had to do, and the maid had take our spare key which we had left in the room. On Wednesday, as we left the hotel for the dat, I left a list of cleaning duties to be done in our room, it wasn't perfect when we got back, but it looked better. That night we decided to have room service as we got back late. There was no room service menu in the room, so had to go to reception to get one. We put the order through, and that came wrong, and when we reordered that came wrong too! It says 24/7 room service, but the menu is crazy as only certain items are available 24/7. After complaining on out final morning the Thursday, the staff member I spoke to said it came as no surprise that there have been problems with maid service and room service. As a gesture our room service was refunded, but I hope my complaint is upheld, as the hotel is a very nice one and with improvements can be better, however, I doubt we'll be staying at this hotel again. Even on checking out I was asked to pay for the room, which I had already paid for, and I had to find my email again, otherwise I would have been charged twice. all I can say is, (during refurbishment I appreciate the running of things is not easy) but train the staff, and get the problems sorted and it will be a great hotel
