I stayed here for business one night. Stela who met me at the reception was so warm and welcoming, giving me all the tips I need about the area, how to get to and what to see in Northampton. I was allowed to check out later, all other hotel executives in the restaurant, bar, room cleaning areas were kind, polite, friendly, smiling. It was a superb experience, can't wait to get back. I strongly recommend the hotel. Thank you so much!
As part of large party staying for 3 nights, we were very impressed with the friendly & helpful staff, the comfy beds & the cleanliness of the hotel. They served a very good evening meal to 200 diners with efficiency & no delays, all food arriving together at each table by turn. Breakfast was plentiful & well cooked with lots of choice - except where were the prunes?? Apparently not Marriott policy to offer them, although almost every other hotel & B & B we've ever stayed in does. However the chef, when questioned, immediately offered to have some for me the following day, & did so. Several others would have had prunes if they'd been there. Bar drinks were too expensive for us! Otherwise, we were very happy with our stay.
We were very warmly welcomed on arrival by helpful and friendly staff who could not do too much for us. Even to the point of offering us a different room because they noticed my wife struggled with the stairs, that was without us asking! Staff extremely friendly throughout our 4 day stay. Rooms and beds, clean, tidy and comfortable. Food could only be described as superb. Expect us back again if we are in the area!
Stayed for 1 night at the Marriott and was surprised at the staff on reception both on arrival and on check out. They both didn’t seem to have a clue how to deal with guests, there is certainly a lack of basic training. We had paid for our room which was £76 when we booked and didn’t realise the cost didn’t include breakfast, we were asked for a further £20 for breakfast for 2 so my husband paid by debit card and was told he would get his receipt the following morning. During the night we had an invoice pushed under our door stating we owed £20. The following morning I queried this at reception and was informed that we didn’t owe anything. I asked for a receipt for the £20 and reluctantly she gave me one, on checking my bank statement £70 had been taken. We rang the hotel and they said they had taken an extra £50 to cover any cost we may have incurred during our stay and would have to wait another 7 - 10 days to be reimbursed, which was adjusted almost straight away. The hotel itself was OK but there aren’t any lifts and no offer to carry any luggage. In the rooms there isn’t a hairdryer, there is use of a safe with no charge, lovely large comfy bed, limited wardrobe space, the air conditioning didn’t work and the tap in the bathroom was dirty. We were woken up at 8.30 by the cleaner knocking on our door and again at 8.50 even though check out was 12. The breakfast was cold which was disappointing because the food looked good.
Stayed here as an event I was attending was being held here. Room was clean, tidy and spacious. Room service menu was a little limited and £13.50 for a tuna sandwich and some fries was a bit steep for my liking. (Was hungry so I paid it but second night didn't) If you want wi-if you have to pay for that too so I can't tell you what that was like as I didn't pay for it Breakfast was standard fare and not too bad. The swimming pool is a decent size and the gym, although small and was full with six of us in there, has all you need for a cardio workout. The beds were a good size for single and there was a choice of pillows, two with feathers, two without. Difficult to tell which is which at first but I figured them out eventually. (Allergic to feathers so sleeping on them would not have been good)
CHECK IN was smooth and easy from Martin who took great care of us over two days. He really did make our stay memorable despite what I would say is a hotel past its sell by date. OUTSIDE appearance is not too dissimilar to a University halls of residence (dorm) out of the 1980s with small windows. The grounds around the hotel by a fishing lake are beautiful and handy for joggers and walkers. Proximity to the motorway means some noise when you open the windows. ACCESSIBILITY- The hotel is only two floors and does not have a passenger lift so either you use the laundry elevator (pictured) assisted by hotel staff or lug up the suitcases yourself. The rooms are clean large and spacious. The Marriott website says rooms were updated about 10 years ago but inside it feels a lot more 80s with flowery musty carpets and chintzy furnishings. Bed quality is good but as ours sagged in the middle it felt like it was in need of a replacement.Linen was excellent quality and a variety of pillows provided. The shower pressure was adequate. I could be wrong but the room did not have air conditioning There was no mini bar which Marriott seem to be removing from their hotels. A huge high quality LCD screen was one of the few updates to the room. There were no bedside plug points only ones provided by the study desk. Breakfast was standard Marriott fare. I've said before Marriott need to check out NH Hotels whose breakfasts are legendary and the variety satisfying after a week long stay. Staff hosting us at breakfast were also friendly and helpful. Eating- If you have a car I would recommend going into to Northampton to grab a bite. It's less than 5 minutes drive away and a nice enough town to roam around and grab a bite. Overall this property has great potential- but needs a complete overhaul. Probably knocked down and rebuilt as a three storey Residence Inn- given the space available and the handy location off the M1. Overall good value with good customer service but rooms leave a lot to be desired for a four star Marriot.
Only reason I stayed in the Northampton Marriott was that it had AC vs the local Hilton. Checked into hotel, asked the staff at reception that the AC wasn't working. Was told somebody would fix it. Arrived a few hours later, the AC was working but no cold air. A few hours later the AC stopped completely. Asked for staff to help, they came and pushed the same buttons I did at 230am. Ruined my night, my work day and did not even have the customer support etiquette to recommend some level of compensation given the discomfort. Not only will I make sure never to stay in this hotel, I promise I will ensure that no one from my firm ever stays at this hotel.
I stayed here recently on a weekend break to visit family. The hotel was fine, the staff were all friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and the pool and gym were good. Breakfast was average. It must be noted that this is a popular venue for weddings and on both days the communal areas were very busy and noisy and the bar area was far from relaxing. Fortunately our intention was not to spend a lot of time at the hotel otherwise I would have been very disappointed. Not sure that I would choose it for my next stay in Northampton.
We were invited to the hotel for a complimentary meal by the hotel to celebrate our first wedding anniversary after our wedding being held at the hotel last year. The hotel whilst not the most attractive from the outside is always immaculate and tasteful inside. The staff are so very friendly and welcoming. Our table was booked for 7pm and the restaurant was empty when we arrived. However shortly after we were settled the restaurant started to quickly fill up. The restaurant staff were amazingly friendly and at no point did we feel rushed or that by chatting to the staff we were holding them up. The menu is limited for vegetarians and whilst different to the standard menus offered by other restaurants I do think it would be better to have some of the old favourites. We decided on the vegetable soup with cheese crouton..........it was delicious. My main course of lamb was lovely and my husbands steak was cooked to perfection. Despite being full we both decided to have desert and both chose the dark chocolate mousse. It was served with a honeycomb shortbread biscuit which was simply amazing. All in all a truly lovely hotel with a restaurant we will certainly return to. One of things which makes this hotel so special is the staff who are an absolute credit to the hotel and themselves. Keep doing the same Northampton Marriott
We had our Sons wedding reception here and the hospitality was superb and the staff were very friendly and courteous. Food was lovely well presented and tasty. We stayed over and the reception staff were pleasant and freindly and our room was so comfortable and spacious and check was at 12 the next day so no rush like some places like you out at 10, breakfast was great also lots to choose from and again our totally stay was fabulous. So good I am thinking of staying at a Marriott Hotel for a nice peaceful Christmas.
