Beautiful building smiling on the outside but very sad on the inside! We had an executive room but the standard inside was nothing like its title. Curtains were filthy and hanging off. The furniture was a mishmash of different types of cheap tat. No lightbulb in one of the bedside lamps - not that you could tell from the dust. Sadly like it’s sister hotel over the road Britannia group have done nothing to keep these beautiful buildings up to the standard the should be in. Speculate to accumulate and then the room would have been more than worth the £80 per night which didn’t even include breakfast.
This is an older building don't expect mod cons but do expect lovely staff who can't do enough for you lovely food and great entertainment ! Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and views are superb ! Would recommend
Just back from the Clifton hotel after the Christmas break.I have to say thank to all of the staff for giving my wife and my self a really great Christmas break, thanks to you all. Hope to see you all next Christmas
A group of five visited this hotel for a four day Xmas break. After reading previous reviews we were somewhat hesitant. BUT what an excellent stay room clean staff excellent especially Len an the Manageress. Food was above the standard we expected. Remember this is an old hotel and not a modern five star. But if you want excellent carding service and good well prepared food then you will certainly get what you pay for.
As a 'voucher' break this was excellent value for money. The brisk November weather was tempered by the cosy, warm hotel. The staff were all friendly and helpful particularly in the dining room. Some of the meals were lovely and the rest good for the cost. Breakfast was splendid! Make sure you book a parking spot in the hotel car park.
We arrived at the Cliffton around 8:00pm, the car park was full, but we asked if we could just leave near the doors to get our bags out, which they said was fine. We checked in, had our dog with us too, the reception area was lovely and warm, we got a parking space literally just outside on the road. Our room was on the ground floor, nice warm room with a view if the sea, which was a bonus. The room was a small double with a good size bathroom. The reason I only gave three stars in that it's quite noisy as it has the toilets directly opposite so you have people from the bar coming and going, also the bar must have their empty bottles stored in one of the doors near this room as we kept hearing the bottles as they were putting them in the tubs or whatever. We would stay here again just not on the ground floor, but it's a lovely Hotel in an ideal location.
My partner and I booked the clifton Hotel as we had really enjoyed our stay the last time we went. The room was very clean and comfortable and we had a king size bed and the bathroom had all the usual amenities. We really like the bar area and snacks and drinks are available until late in the evening! If you get a room higher up the views of the North Bay are wonderful with views of the beach and castle. Staff are polite and friendly and even though we only stayed one night we really our stay! There is car parking available for £6 per night which is worth it because it can be busy on the road with other tourists. We really enjoyed our time there! Thank you.
Having read a few not-so-good reviews, I was a little wary of staying here. I'd like to say those people were wrong. Our room was clean, perfectly serviceable and the bathroom was huge! The staff were welcoming, very friendly and couldn't be more helpful. It's a little more out of the town centre than other smaller hotels but it's not an issue as it's only a small wander there really. All in all a lovely, quiet stay. I'd definitely visit again.
We stayed one night at The Clifton. We were in Scarborough for 'Purple Rain: The Prince Experience.' An old style hotel and we were there for bed and breakfast. We had a strange room. Initially it seemed to have no windows but there actually was the smallest of windows, high up, adjacent to the ceiling. The room was oppressively warm but we switched off the thermostat but still warm with no ventilation. There was a kettle in the room but just 2 teabags and no coffee. There was a shower and bath but we couldn't work the shower and no phone in the room, to ring downstairs and ask for advice. We went to bed after midnight but were kept awake for 2 hours, by slamming fire doors, on the corridor outside our room. We got up, feeling tired but things perked up with the self service breakfast, which was self service and OK really. We got free parking and that was good and location was over looking the sea and we liked that. Would we stay again; probably not.
Ourselves and 2 other couples stayed in the annexe, the rooms were very warm with clean bedding and towels, plenty of hot water. Our only criticism was that under the toilet and the ledges on the path panel were very dusty as were the skirting boards in the room having said this it did not spoil our day. The food was plentiful and hot both at breakfast and evening meal The bar man was very friendly and we had 99p drinks between 18.00 - 21.00 hrs. Would have been nice to have a little background music in the bar but again this did not spoil our nights in
