Lovely place now it's been renovated. Great friendly staff. The staff could not do enough to accommodate you lovely fella who does the porter job. To be honest the Clifton closes for a couple of months due to bookings given priority to the Grand.. I would recommend they shut the grand down And spend some money on it this is miles in front in terms of standards..
Had a sea view room we paid extra for,the place was a bit run down and the food was poor wasn't to our taste at all Paying extra for a sea view made the holiday a lot better wouldn't book there again sorry
I think it must depend which room you end up in as to how you find it. Our room was spotless. The bed was comfortable. We stayed a very cold weekend, and my only criticism is everywhere was so hot! The radiator was on all night and it was too hot. That said I'd rather be hot than cold. This place is dated, but personally I think the prices reflect that. It fitted our needs for a short weekend stay.
Got moved to this hotel as the Grand hotel had over booked. It's a basic hotel witch requires re decorating. Our room was OK clean but the bed was very hard and uncomfortable. The bathroom was Baltic but the room was warm. The Bar area was freezing cold and the bar staff moaned constantly about having to deliver room service and moan about the Chef didn't want to take anymore orders, we sat listening and couldn't believe what we were hearing. Got up for breakfast which was fine couldn't complain Would I come back erm no I'll give it a miss glad it was only a groupon deal because I'd hate to have paid good money for it but that's just my opinion
Stayed here one night and was glad it wasn't longer as I would have had to move to a another hotel. From the start it looked good from the outside but very old and in need of some repair and maintenance. The room was located on ground floor opposite public toilets which every time someone went you could hear them coming and going with very thin walls and squeaky floors. The room itself was small and uncomfortable as the bed was as hard as a rock with springs sticking up in your sides. The bathroom had such an odour that we had to have the door closed and the extractor fan going all night to help mask the stench which I reported to the manager the next day. I would say there would be plenty of better alternatives in Scarborough to stay for the night. Breakfast was basic and at best not of a great quality.
The hotel is basic but it's ok for a couple of nights away, it could do with a paint in the room, we took our dog they charge 10.00 a night, the breakfast is amazing. Would stay again. The staff were very friendly.😀
The hotel was beautiful, the food good and the staff friendly and helpful. We had a lovely room with sea views, a corner bath, king size bed and sitting areas. Entertainment each night if you wanted it and car parking. We have booked again.
Hotel old and dated .but having said that the room was warm and cosy .it was nice to have a sea view .staff friendly and helpful.food was good. Had a really nice time there ,beds were comfortable and clean. Entertainment each evening.parking for a fee.would stay again in the future
Just returned from a 4 day break over Xmas. As usual had a good time . Room perfect staff absolutely marvellous nothing too much trouble . Everything from food to entertainment was good. First time we've stopped there over Xmas but I don't think it will be the last.
I booked a weekend from 16th December for 2 nights at the Grand Hotel as surprise for my daughters 19th birthday. On arrival the Grand had closed due to viruses in the hotel and they had arranged for us to stay at the Clifton instead. This was our first time staying in Scarborough and the Clifton was quite out of the way and not close to the town centre, which was why I chose the Grand (and for the nightly entertainment). I must commend the staff at the Clifton, all through our stay they were friendly, welcoming and so helpful. The rooms are basic but have all you need including iron, ironing board and hairdryer they also have on suite bathrooms but if you are lucky you could get a sea view. Though I had booked for full entertainment at nights at the Grand Hotel since the clifton had only opened up for us they had limited access to entertainment (and notmuch room for it) they did give us two nights of an elderly male singing to karioke. This hotel would be perfect for anyone wanting a quiet time away with great views and lovely staff and easy access to the beach, though the town centre is about 15 mins away. Thank you Clifton for being there
