We came for Cricket Festival 2017. Ghastly room in every way ; and in a backyard extension! View only of car park. They state wi-fi available but this only in lobby area. We booked for five days and got out after one. AVOID!
We stayed for one night and as we were arrived there was a long queue of guests making complaints. For what we paid, the room was reasonable. It was a good size with bay windows in two directions to capture the views. Some of the staff were friendly, others seemed rather brusque. The lift wasn't working, and clearly hadn't been for some time. The carpark is small so unless you book as you reserve your stay you'd be lucky to get a spot. I can't really recommend staying here unless, like us, you want a very cheap getaway for only one or two nights.
Stayed for two nights. The room doors are filthy with black prints all over them the door doesn't fit properly looked like a child had fitted it. The windows were filthy even downstairs. Our shower only worked on cold and soon as you turned to warm the shower flow stopped, went to reception to tell them, she said she wasn't' sure if she could do anything, went back down 2 hours later said someone was going to have a look but didn't know when. Went out came back at 11 o clock and was given key to the room next to us as no one had looked at it. We still had a key to the room next day even though someone was in it . All the staff were bordering on rude they were so used to complaints and no answers for them
Family of 4 stayed here on 11th August for one night. On the original booking, we booked 2x rooms with breakfast and the total cost was £300 for ONE night. We then booked again on Monday and the price was £188 for 2 rooms with breakfast with sea views. Please ensure you look around IF you decide at this poor excuse for an hotel because we saved over £100! On arrival, we drove to our reserved parking space. It's £6 for 24 hours (but it's not because as soon as you check out the hotel, you have to vacate the spot). We got our bags and headed into the hotel. 1 man and 2 ladies were on reception and they were slagging off a staff member in front of customers. Not professional at all!! We checked in and a woman told us our rooms. We were on different floors, I was on the fourth floor and my parents on the second. She originally checked only one of us in. We had to remind her of the second room! Before leaving the hotel, you have to hand your key in to reception. The lift is slow and very old. It doesn't feel safe at all. It's a lift that reminds me of something like Fawlty Towers. You have to close the gate before it goes up to your chosen floor. We were in room 482 and it smells like damp. After further inspection, you could see the damp on the walls and the marks. The windows were filthy. We paid for a sea view but it was tinted with muck. The taps on the bath and sink were filthy. Brown bits were floating in the sink. It's disgusting. The floors are uneven in the hotel which is terrible, especially that elderly people stay here. Very unsafe. The bar is okay, happy hour menu is limited. The barman is cocky and doesn't answer questions without slight remarks. Annoying after 5 minutes. The beds are horrible and lumpy. I've had better nights on a blow up bed. Don't expect any sleep either because the floorboards are loud and creaky and the walls are paper thin. The hotel accepts dogs too, there must have been a dog next door to us because we heard what sounded like crying and weeping until the early hours. The breakfast is also rubbish. It's a very limited choice and I have no clue how they can charge £7.50(?) Per person for breakfast. The coffee is cold like the food. My boyfriend and I found god knows what in our sausage and the eggs smelt really funny. We told somebody about this but nothing got done. Check out process is simple which is a good thing as we couldn't wait to leave. You leave your key in the slot and never return. I wanted to complain about my stay but the woman on reception seemed too busy to care but I am sending an email to the hotel later today. My parents room was on the second floor. We paid for a double room but it had a three-quarter bed. It's also against the wall. My step dad hit his head on the TV and the bathroom was full of damp. Would we stay here again? Yeah, if we were paid to stay there.
Booked this hotel for its proximity to the open air theatre. Delay in accessing room, had to wait in entrance lounge. Reception desk in a stupid place right next to door so you are queuing for the desk and causing an obstruction. Horrible old gaudy patterned carpet in bar area and hideous coloured striped stairs carpet....makes you feel queasy. Room had nothing going for it, tatty furniture and it hadn't been cleaned. ...dust and particles everywhere, grimy telephone keypad and hairs in hairdryer tray in drawer. Window frames rotten. Reported to staff who inspected room. Emma and Daniel lovely members of staff. Britannia need to invest urgently in this hotel.
The room was dirty. They booked us into a room they didn't have. The beds were uncomfortable and smelt terrible. They didn't mention about car parking when booking. Don't waste your money on this hotel
When we arrived I realised that I'd been to the Clifton before but not since the mid-60s for a family Christmas Day lunch. However, I wasn't really sure what to expect this time, as some of the reviews hadn't been great. First find, booking a parking space was a winner, there was a reserved space with a wooden bollard with our name on. On entry, we were greeted at Reception by a really friendly guy who quickly took us through arrivals process, briefed us on the hotel and told us where our room was. We had to walk through the Dining Room, on the way to our room, which looked nice. We can't comment on the food, as we hadn't booked any. We were going to be out in the evening (Madness concert) and we didn't expect to be up early. Our room was on the ground floor, with direct access to the car park, which had both a sea and a castle view, though that was through the cars. I suspect the view from the upper floors would be better. While the room wasn't huge it was perfectly functional and clean. No air-conditioning but a really good floor standing room cooler fan which, when stood on a chair, was good for bed height at night. Compact bathroom, with a tap fed, over bath shower which turned out to have good pressure. I felt that the sink was a little on the small side but in keeping with the space. Always feel that a bathmat is good idea but there wasn't one, so one of the hand towels had to be used but both of those are small points. The bedroom had a flat screen TV, though the Mrs suggested it would have been better on the wall to allow access to the dressing table that it was sat on and to the mirror that it was sat in front of. The bed was a good size and comfortable. There were plenty of lights and a good wardrobe. Hospitality tray was a bit basic with no biscuits and while I admit to being a coffee snob, the instant coffee was pretty dire. We had a look at the snack menu, which was quite extensive, with reasonable prices and good hours of service, similarly the wine list, though not quite as extensive, was fine and again reasonably priced. The only down side on the service was that the person on check-out really wasn't interested, which was a shame because all our other interactions with members of staff was really positive. Some of the interior does look a little tired and in need of some TLC and the outside could do with painting however, I suspect the location means that it will be subject to some severe weather conditions and so this can be expected to a point. All in all, a good value room, in a hotel which was much better than some of the reviews would suggest and ideal for what we required and somewhere we will definitely use again.
We stayed here for the first time at the end of July. We had a lovely stay at the clifton hotel and have already booked a return visit. The room was comfortable clean and well furnished. The only drawback was that our room was down a step on the ground floor. My husband uses a wheelchair and had to get out to get the chair down the step. We managed however. The breakfast was great. With lots of choice from cereals, fruit, toast, full English and a continental option. We have now learned that we need to book a parking space in the car park so we have done this for our return visit. The staff were helpful and welcoming which is always a bonus. Scarborough is one of our favourite places to visit and I'm sure we will be booking return visits to this hotel in the future.
Hotel in need of updating but clean. Our room was described as a double room but was definitely not. Only a small bed a dknglt6 Hotel in need of updating but was clean.
