Nothing to complaint about really. Strong wi-fi signal, on site parking, tea & coffee making facilities. Hotel in a very quiet area with large garden where you can have meal. Bar open till 2300. All in all very good stay.
Although his hotel is a little out of town it has an excellent car park with easy parking unusual for a York hotel. Set in nice grounds it’s a perfect place to stay if travelling in and around York on business. Rooms are clean and tidy as you would expect for a Mercure. Bar meals are very limited and could do with increasing the choices but there is an option to eat in the restaurant. Access into the city centre is down the A19 straight into the heart of York about 2 or 3 miles away.
The hotel room was large if a little dated, but it had everything we needed for our short stay. The dinner was good if a little slow however there was a coach of tourists staying and the kitchen would have been busy. Staff generally worked hard but seemed a little training would have easily polished and improved their techniques. The location is good for easy journeys into York by Taxi or the park and ride is only a short drive away. Average hotel that could have benefitted from an extra member of staff on duty, so if you do not expect too much you will not be disappointed.
Room was booked as surprise for my 50th birthday,to the beautiful city of york,on arrival at hotel it looked ok if not a bit dated, hotel was booked because it was a little bit out city centre so should be nice and quite and was meant to be 4 star hotel with large grounds for my 3 yr old son to have a run around, upon check in we were given our room no and made our way to room to which we went in and was full of somebody else's belongings bags and travel cot, which we had free access to if we had chosen to, I bet people who's room it was had no idea somebody had been in there room.went back to reception no apology, girl just said given us wrong room, then went to bar for a drink waited 5 mins nobody came, cctv will verify, made way back to new room which was very dated and had odd smell like old moth balls, went in bathroom to freshen up just had a tiny trickle of hot water, wash facilities are a basic need, come out of bathroom and my 3 yr old is playing with unsecured door stop and screw which is disgraceful and a health and safety issue, after nobody serving at bar we decided to go out for evening meal to dormouse next to lovely premier inn, upon arrival back at hotel at approx 8.00pm to be greeted by a large traveller wedding in full swing, on entering the main entrance there was a large group drinking smoking and swearing in front of my 3 yr old son also they had emergency exit open drinking and swearing and running about.went back to room and there was a 52 seater coach parked right outside our window belonging 2 wedding party so much for a quite night,i went back out to my new Range Rover sport to be greeted by 3 men looking all round my car saying those wheels look nice on my van furthermore there was a silver Mercedes parked in front of my car which various wedding guests were filling glasses full vodka and gin and alcohol from the boot of there vehicle again all verified by cctv, went back to room and my wife had small fan out of cupboard that was covered in dust, my son suffers with asthma,by this stage I had enough I went online and found a a same 4 star hotel the marriett at york racecourse what a world apart from this appalling mercure hotel that gives a beautiful city a bad name.my wife went to reception to explain situation, girl behind desk said she fully understood our reasons for leaving but could not authorise refund so got duty manager Matthew who came and said we were not eligible for refund and was extremely rude,my wife told him how angry I was and finally authorised refund.finally upon leaving Marriott the receptionist said they had heard all about goings on at mercure Skelton the previous night. Also I would like to state that the safety of my family and vehicle is paramount! I do not discriminate against travellers in Any Way i know a few and they say that they like nothing more to finish a good celebration with a good fight hence me moving hotel. I would also like to state I am not a snob and stay at many budget hotels and never had any thing like this happen before and have many business meetings at mercure haydock and wigan oak hotels were staff are lovely and very helpful, but due to my experience at york will be reluctant to return ,maybe staff should visit these hotels to learn some customer service skills I will be taking this up with senior management at mercure hq asap. I will await your public response on here mr gordon Stewart general manager
Myself and my sister booked a superior room (405) for the night as part of a celebration of her birthday. The check in was efficient and pleasant, the suite was lovely, spacious and well appointed. The bed was massive and very comfortable, the bathroom was lovely and the water pressure was excellent. We had a light lunch in the bar area, the twice fried chips were a highlight! We had a comfortable night after a night out in York and breakfast was a buffet style, decent selection with standard quality. Check out was simple and overall it was a top notch visit. We would absolutely return and already plan to do so.
Lovely hotel, although each time we have stayed we have been given a room on the ground floor next to the function room. First time a wedding which went on until the early hours with loud music. The second was a school prom which wasn't too bad as it was finished by 11.00pm. The stand in barman was great (a scouser) his words not mine. So friendly and what a sense of humour, he didn't know how to make an apparol Spitzer! My daughter helped him. He was just helping out it wasn't his day job. He gave us great tips about park and ride. Breakfast was good but evening meal not great and the restaurant lacked ambience. Would stay again but requesting an upper floor room and would eat out.
The setting is lovely as is the hotel and food for our meal. Unfortunately the staff let it down hugely. When someone did finally appear at the bar they were miserable to the point of rudeness(one, Hayley,)in particular. She was very curt and if you asked for more ice for example it was as though she was really put out. I can say that throughout the day i did not see one member of staff smile, which is pretty poor for a wedding party
This is the third time we have stayed at the Fairfield Manor Hotel and we have never been disappointed. Our room was very clean, spacious and well equipped - there was an added bonus of a fan which we definitely needed as there was no air conditioning. The bed was huge and comfortable and the room was exceptionally quiet with the added bonus of blackout curtains so no rude awakening!! We were also delighted to discover on arrival that the two requests we made at the time of booking had obviously been taken into account and met. The staff appeared professional and courteous and check in/out was efficient. There was a problem with our room swipe card but this was sorted immediately. There is plenty of parking and the Park and Ride into York is only a couple of minutes ride away. We didn't eat any meals at the hotel so cannot comment on this aspect. Overall, we would definitely stay at this hotel again.
Our hotel room was very basic. There were no toiletries in the bathroom (which was also incredibly dated and worn with dirty floor which was also bubbling in a number of places.) Definitely wouldn't stay here ever again.
Impressed by the outside when we arrived and were not disappointed when we went into Reception as it is very stylish. We stayed here for 3 nights and the room was very clean and well maintained. The hotel has restaurant and you can also eat in the bar. The food in the restaurant is of a very good standard especially the chef's chicken special! The bar meal was well presented and all the service provided by the waiters and the bar staff was of a high standard. Very friendly and cheery staff. The Park and Ride is only 4 minutes away by car (wouldn't walk to it as there is a very busy roundabout to cross) and is great for getting into York. Would definitely return to this hotel when visiting York again.
