Expected more given the reviews. While it is very well located, the rooms leave a lot to be desired. Our room (62) we were told was refurbished. I can only imagine what it might have looked like before. End tables on either side of bed are worn. Carpeting very unattractive. Given the size of the rooms (relatively small) there should have been smaller furniture. Pillow does not smell good. Heavy covering and no sheet option only despite the fact that room is relatively warm and there is no air conditioning.
Amazing hotel, met by welcoming staff, we had our luggage taken up to our room. It was a family room which had a separate room for the kids! Great bathroom, a mini fridge and great supply of biscuits! The breakfast was lovely and you got a view of the Minster while eating. We had a great stay at this hotel.
The Dean court hotel offers a great location, due to availability we were in a cosy room which obviously was small, however given that we were out seeing sights and it was only a two night stay we did not feel impacted. The room had all the comforts we expected and a nice updated bathroom. The Staff were outstanding and nothing would be a problem, as it was a smaller room the porter was most concerned that we use the fan or request a cooler if we felt uncomfortable. We did not need to. The bar and restaurant down stairs were good doing a great breakfast and offering a good menu. After a day of exploring York all attractions are within comfortable walking distance it was wonderful to sit in the bar looking across at the Minster and downing a pimms. This hotel offers off site valet parking at a cost.
Second stay at the dean court. I seriously would not stay anywhere else in York. The location is perfect as it's just outside the minster. The staff are friendly. There is valet parking and they allow u to keep the car there until u leave so although we stayed one night we arrived at 10am and left the following afternoon. You can also leave ur luggage there too. My only complaint was my poached egg tasted of vinegar but I told them and they where willing to rectify. It was my choice not to have another one. Yes it is a noisy place at night but! There are double glazed windows that would help. Can't wait to return to enchanting York.
The many positives about this place are the location (can't get closer to the Minster) and very helpful front desk staff. The remodelled rooms are lovely. Ours looked right out on the Minster and a pub. (which did make it a little noisy) The 4 star is because we were travelling as a group and the other room had not been refurbished, and was less than expected, especially for the price. Be sure to ask which room when you make reservations. Our room was also quite hot. However, very comfortable beds, large room. Love the basket with locally made jams- nice tough.
Stayed in room 17 (one of the suites) for one night on our wedding anniversary. The room is stunning. Facilities in the room are second to none. View of the Minster wonderful. The bed is just enormous with quality bedding. A fabulous night's sleep! Breakfast was equally impressive - vegetarian breakfast and kedgeree - delicious. All the staff were so helpful and could not do enough for us. Surprise gifts left in the room on our arrival - thank you so much to all the Dean Court team. A perfect stay!
We had 3 nights here and enjoyed it very much. We paid extra for a very nice room overlooking the Minster, a stone's throw away. The staff were, without exception, friendly and helpful. We would certainly stay here again.
Stayed for 4 nights with family (parents and 3 girls) We had a double and and family (5) room for the girls Our rooms (both the double and the family) were very spacious and clean. It was particularly good for the girls who had plenty of space in their family room Location is top notch: Right by the Minster! What a view!!! Breakfast was good but could have been better if offering fresh vegetables, salads and cheese at the buffet (consists mainly of pastries, cereals and juices) beside the cooked meal All in all, we were very satisfied and recommend
Great location next to York Minster. Lovely, friendly, energetic staff who can't do enough to help. BUT... Paid £340 for one night (without breakfast) for two pokey rooms, one really horribly dark and dingy. Extractor fan not working in one, shower hard to operate in the other. Barely room for the bed in both. Upstairs landings and corridors look tired and in need of a face-lift. Cooked breakfast very lacklustre - poached egg overcooked and plonked on plate, toast from bog-standard sliced white loaf (ditto), mushrooms that might or might not have come out of a tin. Really? For £170 a night?
After a number of visits to York and staying in various hotels I finally found the Dean Court, I have now stayed there on 4 occasions. The staff are warm and friendly and have always made me feel welcome. The rooms are comfortable and if you are staying in one of the rooms at the front of the hotel the view of the Minster is second to none. Parking in York is at a premium, but if you stay at the Dean Court they provide you with a parking service, When you arrive they will take your vehicle and park it safely. When you need it again give them 5-10 minutes notice and they bring your vehicle to the front of the hotel.
