The hotel was very nice, but had to call a shuttle to do anything. You want breakfast , call a shuttle. You want to go swimming, call a shuttle. You get ready to go to you room, call a shuttle. You want to get ice, you have to call. I got tired of having to call someone to do anything. There is also no entertainment to speak of. Other than that everything was good. The food was good and the rooms were very nice. The staff was great.
Multiple sales pitches for additional stays. Concierge ignored us after 1st day. 2-4 calls to our room each time we ordered room service. Only a few staff members were rude, the rest were great.
My husband and I had a very relaxing stay over Christmas at the Secrets Papagayo Resort. The views of the bay are just stunning, and we sometimes used one of the shuttles (which were very efficient and always available) to get to our room just to enjoy it without the effort of actually walking up a hill. Our room was right across from the spa, which featured wonderful massages and is located near a quiet pool, beach and restaurant. For people, who are looking for a more lively scene, the main pool area is the place to be. The staff was always very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate us. Lots of activities were scheduled throughout the day. And the restaurant and food options were imaginative and yummy. We will plan another visit for sure.
Great.gottired of lunch choices.otherwise food was good.staff friendly.great place to relax.thought spa prices were high.beach fantastic, collected shells(left them there).we will vacation there again.
Gorgeous views, excellent service, and very caring staff are the highlights of Secrets Papagayo. The resort is not huge, which gives a more personal feel. The staff are constantly asking what more you need, & when they started to notice I was traveling alone (on a personal retreat), they offered extra friendship and conversation. The beach is a black, silt-like sand with cloudy-ish water, so do not expect the Caribbean. It's also public property, so local vendors wander through selling souvenirs, but none were hostile and it seemed that the resort staff kept a close eye on them. The Rainy Season makes for fewer tourists (the place felt about half full most of the time), and more positives: lush green everywhere and a mandatory afternoon rain break almost every day. The sunny mornings gave plenty of chances for swimming, and some afternoons the rain was brief and allowed for a clear evening. Take the sunset kayak tour! A local told me August is absolutely the BEST time to visit. I really loved Costa Rica!
Great place, wonderful staff, great food. The sushi was incredible and the Sushi Chef Anna was fantastic.
This resort is great, an all inclusive is the way to go when you visit, and Secrets did not disappoint. The staff are great and their English skills are proficient, although it wouldn't hurt to brush up on your Spanish before your trip. The location is on the bay with very tranquil waters and very little beach area, so if you're looking for white sandy beaches, go elsewhere. Great view from your rooms and in a very secluded area of the boast. The food was overall great, especially their buffet, great selection and attentive staff. No reservations needed at the other restaurants, but be sure you bring some form of formal attire as there is a dress code for all restaurants. Guys are fine with pants and collared shirts and ladies are good with summer dresses. Be sure to bring plenty of bug spray!!!
They have a lot of improvements to make. Our room didn't have hot water for 2 nights. And twice our reservation to one of he restaurants was not honored. THe mosquitos were crazy, they need to treat the grounds better. And the staff needs to be better informed of the open/close times of bars and restaurants. Several times we were given wrong information. This was our 3rd secrets and we love the chain. We knew this was a new hotel and there would be some pains. But this is a huge company. I expected them to be a bit more prepared.
