BEAUTIFUL HOTEL. CLEAN (IMMACULATE , ACTUALLY) WOULD RETURN AGAIN AND AGAIN,IN FACT I CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK, STAFF WAS WONDERFUL. BUFFETS DELICIOUS , INVITING
The pools were beautiful with something for everyone (waterfalls, in pool lounge chairs, volleyball, swim up bar). Variety of excursions available. We attended a wedding and the staff did an excellent job of making the bride and groom's day special! Room was spacious with a great balcony and view of the grounds and swimming pools.
This was a great vacation spot. All included. Just a little secluded from town. Which was great in someways but felt a little isolated. But there was lots to do and the food was great. There were endless drinks for those of age and overall a great adventure.
Food and staff were great to be around and the weather is always beautiful.
well maintained hotel with big premises and nice pool for kids. lot of activities. The food was great with lot of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. we went in a group and our main peeve is the cocktails and drinks, it was totally watered down and the liquor used was really cheap....resulting in all the drinks to be really sweet.....wish this could be better.
The Hotel was good, food was good, location is OK. Beach was OK. Drinks a little bit on the sweeter and diluted side. Hotel has a terrible wifi policy. You have to pay to have wifi at the room, that too by the hour. Wifi at the lobby is free. The local Movistar sim card we bought did not work here. The room had actual keys! Not key cards. Expensive if you lose it.
Enjoyed the stay. The food was excellent. The grounds are beautiful and the staff friendly and attentive.
A nice stay. We had no problem getting food or cocktails whenever we wanted.
Hotel on the beach. Bathroom in room needs updated but clean. No room service. Request for items from front desk took hours to receive. 1-2 of the restaurants closed every night due to low occupancy, off season. Would stay again. Nice pool. Nice bars.
The experience was overall very good, but way too many kids at the resort. One would think that there would be at least a small adults area. There is a pool "for kids only" that was never used. There was no pool for adults only and even the bar area was overrun with children.
I was really upset that they do not offer Room Service - Sport Bar is open 24 hours but does not have a variety of food. Food was ok - Entertainment was good - overall really clean
We had a wonderful time at this resort. We went for a girl's trip recently. It was beautiful, clean, and the beach was wonderful. The staff is amazing. All of the employees are so friendly and really go out of their way to help you with any need. I can't say enough about them. They are so hard working. The rooms were spotless. I thought the food was pretty good. No, I wouldn't say it was a five star meal, but no buffet is. The food was on par with at least your average restaurant. There were so many choices that everyone should be able to find something they like. The beach was clean and peaceful. There wasn't any seaweed present when we went and I felt really comfortable and safe getting in the water. We had a really lovely time.
The talian restaurant was not good at all, Steakhouse was ok, client should Wait in line to make reservations for a restaurant it's ridiculous, to make it worse to tell you everything is booked for the day.. they should have that option when you check in.
Riu hotels normally have more food variety. In Costa Rica very poor food variety. I made a complain about room things need to repair and nobody came in to fix it even after second call. Never had experience that in Riu before.
The hotel is nice and quite big, you have to walk some distance between the beach, pool, restaurants since it is spread out. That's not bad considering all the food you eat and the extra walking is welcomed. The buffet restaurant is ok but I would recommend eating dinner at the other restaurants they have there too i.e. Asian, Italian and Steak house. You have to make a reservation for those by going to the front desk, make sure you do that between 9:00 - noon, it gets booked fast. Since alcohol is included in the hotel stay they serve cheap liqueur at the bars so ask for brand names that they might have under the counter. If you want good rum ask for Centenario. The rooms are clean and the staff are very friendly. If you treat them with respect and don't act like a snob they will take care of you! The beach doesn't have white sand and the water is not clear like the Caribbean due to volcanoes in the area, the sand is more brown. The pools are nice and the average depth is 4'. There's a diner next to the pool that serve lunch from 12:00 - 3:00. There's free WiFi in the lobby but you can pay extra to get it all over the hotel. I suggest to bring all essential hygiene items and sunscreen since there are no stores close to the hotel. The prices at the hotel store are quite high.
Hotel great right next to the beach on private property. The staff is extremely friendly and also ready to help with anything. I liked them so much that will be staying at their hotel on the next vacation destination if available. The only thing they need to improve on would be newer room towels they are not soft and are old.
I stayed at this hotel in the past and thought it was great. I just came back from another trip to this hotel and greatly disappointed. There is a no smoking rule across the country in public places now. I'm a smoker, but can understand, no smoking in indoor spots but outside? couldn't smoke outside the pool, outdoor bars, not even outside in the roadways. They stuck us in 1 little spot far away from everything such as the restaurants, bars, and pool. The hotel staff (bartenders) I remember was very friendly and playful in the past,, throughout this last trip, they look at you, without a smile, almost like "what do you want?". The buffet was the same food every day,, in the past, I remember they switched it up a little bit,, not this time. The specialty restaurants were still good, but they changed the rules and it's booked 3 days at a time,,, by the time we went up to reserve dinner, they were all booked for our entire stay,,, after arguing and begging, they managed to squeeze us in for 2 dinners. There are several bees by the pool and especially the bar by the pool. Almost as if there's a hive nearby,,, I basically think, "do something about it!!", people looked very uncomfortable hanging out by the pool bar. The beach,, I don't remember the beach being so dirty,, clean it. The entrance to the water was also very rocky. The room, not bad,, although there's no water pressure in the toilet.
I loved my trip to Guanacaste. The area is beautiful. It is away from everything else but there is plenty to do. Every day there are activities by the pool. There are water sports. Plus there are tours you can go on. Go see Anna at CA tours. Went on 3 tours with them - Nicaragua, rain forest and sunset cruise. All we wonderful tours. Eduardo for the Nicaragua tour was so proud to show his country. He made the tour. The food at the hotel was good. I could always find something to eat on the buffet. Lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. American food tastes a bit different but it is a different country. Go eat at the monkey bar. Mario is a hoot. Of course go see the spider monkeys. But just feed them melons. I learned that bananas are not good for them. The hotel was quite nice. The room was always cool and comfortable. It was clean thanks to Maria who always had a smile. Of course there are the occasional bugs but the hotel is surrounded by forest. Take bug spray. No big deal. People in Costa Rica are so nice. A vacation is what you make it. Being in a different country you cannot expect it to be like home. The hotel is beautiful and worth a visit.
Overall our stay was nice, relaxing and enjoyable. Food was decent (deserts lacked flavor but could be due to the crazy amount of sugar we use in the US). Drinks were good but suggest asking for premium liquor when you order. Would have been nice if something besides the sports car was open late. Pools were nice and clean, we did a lot of night swimming and towel exchange ran out of clean towels at 5:45pm one day (closes at 6pm) so that was a bummer. Room was nice with the exception of our door that we didn't notice didn't lock until you pulled it shut really hard - glad nothing was stolen from the room before we noticed. Staff was great in general however ran into a not so nice front desk gentleman that worked the night shift who gave me attitude when I asked when the power would be back on (lost power one night in our room for approx 2 hrs - no idea why and no compensation). Keep an eye on your devices - our 6 yr old son had his tablet stolen from the ballroom during an event we were attending. Suspect it was a staff member as we were told by another guest they turned it in. We checked everyday with front desk and unfortunately returned home with out it. In summary, decent hotel, decent food and would consider staying again. The transportation team LAR was exceptionally great and highly recommend. On one trip they overcharged by mistake and ran back to our shuttle to apologize and refund us.
Pleasant. Good food. Good variety of food. No reason to leave resort
