Hotel Riu Guanacaste - All Inclusive

4.0 out of 5.0

Beautiful hotel, grounds, and pools. Food was good, with different restaurant options in the evening. Breakfast and lunch were ok buffet style. Bar service was great, and even the servy bar in the room had complementary liquor and snacks. The staff provided entertainment all day and evenings, some of it was ok. A well run resort.

More kid activities would be nice. The kids club was too young for over 5. Not as much to do for 6-14 year olds. They skip the kid activities or gear them to adults. More sit down restaurants with menu and times available would improve dining experience greatly. Tucan was the best of the restaurants but need to show up 15-30 mins. early to get a seat. Leave plenty of time to check out. Bring plenty of bug spray. Many mosquitos hang out over at entry of the hotel room door. Do NOT forget suntan lotion. It was a complete rip off at shops $50-$65 for a very small bottle. Be careful with the excursions. They start with one and switch you up to paying more if you are not careful. Go through Hotel for airport transportation. Our outside service never showed and we just made our flight back. Rooms are tight and beds are small and not terribly comfortable.

Nice Resorts, on the beach, good staff in every area

Horrible customer service , tried talking to manager twice in regard to issues with my luggage and room and he didn't care at all . Will be calling riu corporate office on Monday in regards to the horrible customer service . Horrible food and no real care when preparing the meals found plastic in my chicken and egg shells in my eggs . Definitely not ever going back to riu guanacaste

This hotel customer service is mediocre vs. other Riu hotels. Food is average, only drink is good. Overall, I will go to different hotel next time if coming back to guanacaste province.

We had a wonderful time the staff was great only a few things that I would change. The pillows were horrible and the rooms were not air conditioned adequately.

I really enjoy staying at this hotel. I like the fact that it's located away from the city so it makes the drive very pleasant. The hotel is clean and the staffs all work very hard. I wish the Pool could be cleaner and the pillow more comfortable.

My have and I have been staying at the RIU properties for the past 7 years. Absolutely love this company. This Hotel is gorgeous and the views are great. The food selections were not as good as the other resorts we stayed at (no meat carving stations at night and a lot more seafood then beef and chicken). Really hard getting into the restaurants. Other resorts you go down and make reservations here you have to get in line and if they have the room they will seat you. Nobody wants to stand in line for 30-40 minutes. Also the Disco/Pacha is included in the other RIU properties we have been too. This one is different. You can go in for free but the drinks are not included in your all inclusive package (which for us is a big deal because we love to go out dancing after the shows). Hotel is very clean. If you are scared of Iguanas then this is not a place for you. They are every where.

No food uncomfortable bed and toilet brook the did fix it until next day had to to to lobby use bathroom No coffee maker at room

Large complex, kind of tired for 4 star and didn't seem like a good value as food and entertainment wasn't very good. Hoped beach was bigger with water sports. Nice large pool. Fun staff photographers and guys to lead dance lesson, water aerobics, etc. Great excursion options with about 8 tour companies on site. The food and boose was fair at best; about the same buffet items every lunch and dinner. Nice fruit and sweets but I don't remember having a good entree option during my stay. Mainly chicken and pork, very limited fish. Would have preferred restaurant options that had menu meal items plated for you instead of serve yourself buffet. Food was appropriate for kids and families (nachos, burgers, pizza, pasta, rice and beans, chicken tenders, ribs, cheese and cold cuts, etc.) Annoying towel card process, The Riu Palace next door is more upscale-- views of ocean, more elegant pool and higher quality food and fewer children.

The resort is beautiful and well maintained. Food was good, not great. Mostly buffet style. Nice location with lots of activities nearby. Two things that keep it from getting a 4 or 5 star rating: 1) The linens and bedding are not good. The bed is really hard. Towels are not soft. 2) Some of the service is really good, and some is not. We had a few bartenders simply ignore us. Not all the wait staff is friendly. Little things, for some people, but if you want a 4 or 5 star hotel, those two areas need to improve. Overall, it was a good value and I would do it again without hesitation.

After reading the good reviews, we booked our stay. Unfortunately, the good reviews/pictures were totally WRONG!!! We have never had as bad as an experience than at this hotel. Rude staff, out of date, no coffee machine in room, tattered towels, awful beds/pillows, only 1 English tv channel, mini bar sucks and only filled every other day, elevators always broken, had to wait in line to get to eat at the restaurants, unkempt pool area, no wait staff, below mediocre food....the list goes on!!! We were so disappointed. Spend a little extra to stay at the RIU Palace right next door. Better yet, don't give your chain your $ and stay somewhere else!!!!

We really liked the hotel and the staff was great. The food was good but not very flavorful.

Most people that worked there were friendly, there were a couple of staff members in front desk that were rude and not friendly at all, the food was not very good

BEAUTIFUL HOTEL. CLEAN (IMMACULATE , ACTUALLY) WOULD RETURN AGAIN AND AGAIN,IN FACT I CANNOT WAIT TO GO BACK, STAFF WAS WONDERFUL. BUFFETS DELICIOUS , INVITING

The pools were beautiful with something for everyone (waterfalls, in pool lounge chairs, volleyball, swim up bar). Variety of excursions available. We attended a wedding and the staff did an excellent job of making the bride and groom's day special! Room was spacious with a great balcony and view of the grounds and swimming pools.

This was a great vacation spot. All included. Just a little secluded from town. Which was great in someways but felt a little isolated. But there was lots to do and the food was great. There were endless drinks for those of age and overall a great adventure.

Food and staff were great to be around and the weather is always beautiful.

well maintained hotel with big premises and nice pool for kids. lot of activities. The food was great with lot of options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. we went in a group and our main peeve is the cocktails and drinks, it was totally watered down and the liquor used was really cheap....resulting in all the drinks to be really sweet.....wish this could be better.

The Hotel was good, food was good, location is OK. Beach was OK. Drinks a little bit on the sweeter and diluted side. Hotel has a terrible wifi policy. You have to pay to have wifi at the room, that too by the hour. Wifi at the lobby is free. The local Movistar sim card we bought did not work here. The room had actual keys! Not key cards. Expensive if you lose it.
