From check in to leaving a week later, we knew we had discovered a new "getaway", on our first trip to Costa Rica. I had emailed them that I was interested in working on my Spanish during our stay and upon our arrival, the reception and restaurant staff became my very patient and encouraging Spanish teachers. My wife even picked up a few phrases before we left. Our room was large, air conditioned, had a flat screened television with cable and outside rear patio doors was a beautiful sunbathing / lounging space, a completely private walled in area with an additional outdoor shower, Jacuzzi and blooming tropical flowers. The king size bed was firm but comfortable. Furnishings were obviously locally crafted, not really "luxury finishes", but comfortable, clean and well maintained. A room safe was provided. Our room was thoroughly cleaned everyday. The grounds were beautiful, meticulously maintained and right on the beach. We were here specifically to enjoy local food and enjoy lazy days of lounging on the very nice lounge chairs with cushions that were provided at no additional charge. The hotel offered a really nice range of excursions. Nasu Restaurant presented "fresh" perfectly prepared traditional food with a fine dining presentation. Service was outstanding. The complimentary breakfast was from a menu ranging from a traditional "Pinto Gallo" combination to eggs and bacon or a stuffed bagel, all including fresh fruit and our favorite, the daily fresh juice combination.

I describe this of paradise because of the upscale decor, tropical gardens, friendly helpful staff, and of course the beach. Our stay took an unexpected turn one morning when my husband felt so weak that we thought we should visit a nearby doctor. I took our wallets and passports and off we went. After an examination we left the doctors office in an ambulance and were airlifted to a hospital in San Jose. I tell you this because of the extraordinary help and support we received from Carol and Maria at Bahia Del Sol. Someone packed all our belongings, including the valuables from the safe, into our suitcases. They aggressively worked with us to determine how to get our luggage to us. Everything arrive safe and sound. We could not be more thankful for their extraordinary help. It's hard to rate them high enough.

The hotel was nice, clean and quite. The staff was great friendly and helpful.

This hotel is not as it appears on the website. It is old, run-down, and well past its prime. From the moment you pull up you will be disappointed. I booked a 2 bdrm family suite. Before registering I asked to see the room because the grounds of the hotel was my first clue this place was not up to snuff. I was glad i did. Its small, dark, with dirty out-dated bathrooms. Bedrooms were closet sized. Our "balcony" was actually a few chairs put out in front of our room on the common motel style walkway. not at ALL what i was expecting. I immediately told the "front desk Supervisor" Ernesto- really nice guy, but completely ineffective - that we would not be registering. I called Orbitz , orbitz called ernesto,Ernesto spoke with me- we all agreed I was cancelling. Ernesto said he could not confirm the cancellation (what?) until the following day. We went along our merry way. Orbitz was suppose to call me within 24hr to issue a refund. They did not. Called Orbitz again (another 1 hr on the phone) they called the hotel again. They were told the hotel would respond in next 24-48 hr. They did not. Another call to Orbitz.. another hour on the phone.. I am now on the FOURTH call with the same response from Orbitz and the Hotel. Guess What Orbitz.... They are not going to call you back@!! Don't stay here!! Book your hotels somewhere else!!!

Very well mantained hotel with an awesome staff. Front desk, restaurant, bartenders, and house keeping were all friendly and helpful. I would recommend for anyone looking for a costal hotel in CR.

We had an amazing time here. The staff was so friendly and accommodating. They spoke great English and went our of their way to make us feel special. Love the location which is right on the beach. Only thing to be aware of is that it's little older hotel, so the decor is mostly stucco and Spanish tiles. Lastly, there are mosquitoes in the room and there are iguanas walking around the hotel.

Playa Potrero is a very peaceful place, and the hotel goes with the mood. Small hotel but great experience. Nice people in the staff, great chef in the kitchen.

Everything is very laid back, warm, pleasant... No pressure, no judgement, no noise, no nonsense :). You feel like you are visiting family who cares and makes sure you have everything you need at all times. Wonderful staff. Bahia del Sol is a small hotel and you easily become known by name :). They give you cookies everyday. Know your favorite breakfast and drinks :). Everything is on time and as requested. Lots of comfort and warmth. And at night you can hear the ocean, so hope you like some white noise :). Chill, it the Pacific.

The warmth, hospitality, and attentiveness of the staff of Bahia Del Sol Resort made our stay in CR very special and unforgettable. Thank you! Pura Vida! We love Costa Rica!

We were there in the down season, so the place was pretty deserted and we basically had the hotel/beach to ourselves. Rooms were nice & clean. Great A/C. Beach was nice - black sand, which was cool, but the water was really murky because of it, so you'd come out with the suit full of black sand inside & out. But pretty beach. Not much to the little town in the down season - seemed like most of the restaurants were closed. Good pool bar at the hotel with decent happy hour deals - we ate dinner there one night and were shocked by how expensive it was and how horrible the wine was (first time we've ever not finished a bottle hah) but over this place is a good find & we enjoyed it a lot.

Nice pool and couldn't be closer to the ocean. I wouldn't call it a four star hotel but we really didn't want that anyway. It was perfect for our family. No hair dryer and poorly lit rooms are my only issues with the room. Good size and cold A/C. Staff was the best and the food was very good. Good restaurants in immediate vicinity. La perla was excellent. And take-out pizza from Cara Pizza was the best.

Staff was very nice and helpful. They promised double bed end up with small room with a king bed which was very uncomfortable to share. The hotel charges are super expensive they dint even have microwave. The old small fridge hardly worked breakfast was great friendly staff.

the ocean at your doorstep. beautiful and quiet setting. The staff without exception is friendly, courteous and will knowledgeable. good restaurants in the area, very safe. Staff will help to arrange any activity you want. This is our second time and we are already talking about are next trip.

Stayed @ Bahia Del Sol 3/21/2013-2/27/2013. Had an awsome family experience. Hotel was very quaint. Our room was perfect for a family of 5. All the staff was helpful and accomidating. Got to know the bartenders by name. Jose and Jimmy were wonderful and Marvin was the best. They gave us recommendations on where to eat if we wanted to explore the area. Never had a bad meal. Dinner @ hotel was delicious. We order Mai Hi Mahi Chipolte that was out of this world. The only thing bad I have to say was the that the beds were not comfortable. Woke up achy and stiff. Besides that we were able to over look it.

We were only scheduled to stay for 1 day but we stretched it out to 1 week, due to the warmth and quality of the hotel and its staff. The hotel was exceptionally nice. We had a very simple, standard room, which was wholly adequate. The next time we stay there we will get a suite though. The housecleaning staff was quite good, and the remainder of the staff were simply excellent and accommodating as well, giving warm, friendly personalized service. Maik, Leo, and Hector especially went out of their way in making our stay a delightful one. The pool area was totally lovely, as was the easily accessible beach, with the occasional dog or cow wandering by. The sunsets from the pool area were otherworldly beautiful. The food was 5 star. The drinks (try the mango and mint cocktail) were 6 star! This is a somewhat out of the way hotel, maybe a 10 minute drive or a 40 minute walk from Flamingo, but I found its relative remoteness a definite plus, affording the perfect blend of local culture and feel, with the lushness of a beautiful, tropical hotel. If you are looking for a really nice hotel, with just a touch of local funkiness, this is for sure the place. I would not hesitate to stay there again.

The staff was great and the hotel was nice although it is in a remote location that requires a 3 km drive on an unpaved road. We went at the beginning of the rainy season and the humidity was very high.

Followed 36 reviews 4.2 and booked. Cost $80.00 and 1 hour to get there which was ok but no free shuttle. So incorporate this in your cost. 23 rooms, nicely equiped and clean but not perfect. . Air conditioning was great. Food was good but meals satisfaction varies from great to average depending on day. Sat was awesome, Sunday average. Monday Ok. Need more consistency. Staff was very good, not excellent. Emphasis was on savings, I could sense it. Cost to travel around is twice if normal travel in U.S. Food prices the same as U.S and maybe dearer. Two coffees at airport were $13..00 Be advised there is a departure tax of $28.00 per person. Airport is new but disorganized. Give this country another 5 years and it will be fantastic. Beautiful and rugged. They need some management from people who have lived abroad if they want to attract a stable tourism industry. Their tourism right now is setting records but bottom line I felt a little gouged. Held up the aircraft for 30 minutes on departure because of one person not paying their departure tax. This is Costa Rica. I will come back but felt the country is a liittle bit disorganized for this day. Caribbean still a 5 times better choice at this time in my opinion unless you are prepared for the unexpected and do not mind. I would rate this hotel 4.5 for relaxation as it is quiet and no tourist feel of the large resorts. If they can do it this could be a 5 star place if they upped the food and made the rooms a little nicer. Nice boutique type hotel overall.

I had a great time! it was calm and relaxing not to much going on like other huge resorts. very few children and the staff was abosolutely wonderful!

We loved going down to breakfast at Bahia Del Sol and sitting under the canopy to a breakfast bar that started with fresh fruit, pastries, rice and beans, platanos, and more, then ordering eggs. The beach is quiet and peaceful, unlike Tamarindo where someone's trying to sell you a necklace every 5 minutes. While the sand isn't white, it's clean. Check-in and out was very efficient. This is a small hotel with a nice mix of couples and families. More Europeans than Americans go there. The pool is on the small side but nice, with a little waterfall and walk in sloping, and there's a wet bar. We had a lovely time there.
