The staff is great the rooms are nice but to keep price down this is a no frills hotel. Pillow and breakfast. We use it for business and it is great. I do see a lot of families there so it must be great for that as well. We use this chain in other areas and have noticed a significant reduction in what I would call the extras. But if you need a place to sleep that's clean for a great price this is your place.
This will probably be the last time we stay at a Marriott property. It seems they sell their franchises, and take a hands-off approach to quality control. Concerning this property, I must say first of all that I met with the manager the first day we stayed there, and she went out of her way to be friendly and helpful, and to make sure that we were comfortable and happy. Once she left, however, everything went downhill. The "Hot breakfast" featured chaffing dishes with nothing in them. I asked the dining area attendant whether there would soon be more eggs and sausage. Her reply was a rather condescending, "They're cooking!". This event repeated for three mornings in a row. On our second day (of a total of three) I asked at 9:00 for our room to be made up, as we had not seen housekeeping all morning. I was told that if I wanted housekeeping service, I had to take the "Do Not Disturb" sign off of my door. (It was NOT on the door!) We returned to our room in the afternoon to find the bed unmade, and wet towels still on the floor. I went to the desk to ask whether our room would be attended. I was told by the person at the desk (who was rather preoccupied with her smart phone) that they were short staffed, and that she would have to check with the housekeeper whether she could get to it. I became somewhat irate, and asked, "Is my room going to be made up, or not?" Again, she replied, "I'll check with housekeeping." I went to the desk for a THIRD TIME to demand that my room be made up, and received the same response, "We are short staffed. I'll have to check with housekeeping." I was rather angry at this point and told her, "I don't care about your excuses, go hire someone if you have to, or make this a free night since you're unable to provide the service we're paying for!" Our room was cleaned and made up, and towels were replaced at 5:00 PM!!! Breakfast the next morning, as expected, was missing in action. Unfortunately, this poor customer service attitude seems to be prevalent among franchised Marriott properties. We have been Marriott Points members for years, and have decided not to continue. Motel 6 provides more attentive and courteous service!
My fiance and I had a get away and stayed here for 2 nights. Not sure of the girl who checked me in but she was very nice. We even arrived early and she made sure to accomodate us. I loved the layout of the room and it was very quiet. I use to work at TownePlace Suites so our layout was different. The one thing I didn't too much care for was breakfast. Although we had a kitchen in the room(which we did use) our first morning we decided to try breakfast out, just wasn't what I expected. Other than that I have no complaints everyone was very nice
I haven't stayed at one of these facilities in a while and this was my first time here at this one, but it was a pleasant stay. The staff was very welcoming and helpful. The check in process was painless and quick. The lobby and area to meet was on the small side but, it was nice and clean. The pool is right when you walk in which was kind of odd and it was kind of small as well but I was there for the beach so I didn't really mind. The room was cute, clean, and perfect for what we needed. The location was not perfect but it wasn't horrible either. There were places to grab a quick bit to eat nearby and the beach was not to far away
Never again will I go to a towneplace suites, they accused me of smoking in my room, charge me a fine, didnt give me a appropriate rate and charged my cars without consent, will not be going back here and that employee tracy or tracie, you are very rude and its employees like you that are the reason people dont get the respect they deserve your customer service skills are not on par.
I have not stayed at many TownSuites so I’m not sure if all are built the same way. The entrance is too tiny and not very welcoming. To explain, we entered via a single door that opened to a tiny entrance way. To the left was another door to the reception and in front was another locked door which lead to the rooms, so it’s a bit tight if a couple of people are coming and going. The rooms were clean, tidy and comfortable. We did not make use of the kitchen other than the fridge but there were clean items in the dishwasher and the kitchen was stocked with cutlery, flatware a stove and oven that is not full sized and a sink and dishwasher. I had specifically looked at the hotel to make sure they had a pool for my daughter before booking and it did not strike me to ask if it was an indoor pool. It wasn’t and it was closed for the season.
During a recent crisis with our home, we had to relocate to hotel. We decided on Towneplace because of the "suite" and kitchen options. Despite the circumstances, it turned out to be a pleasant stay. The staff was very friendly and welcoming and the accommodations were excellent for what we needed for what turned out to be an 8 day stay. Most importantly, we needed a place that was not only human friendly but "pet friendly'. Our standard poodle "Gaspar" was also treated royally and the staff fell in love with him. With "cookies", the feeling was mutual. The only downside, was the breakfast. During the week, only open till 9am, which is tough for us late risers and the dining area wasn't very large. Less than a dozen people can fit into the breakfast area and less than that theoretically, with only 4 tables. Although not a problem for us during an 8 day stay, the $100 fixed pet fee gets pricey for a short stay. Also. the location is in an office park on the border of Norfolk and Va Beach and there are not many restaurant options to drive to conveniently. Other than that, I would stay again here or other Townplace at Marriott
The property is convenently located in the Tidewater area at the intersection of two major interstates - 64/264. It is very clean, well lit at night & has a security guard in the evenings. With multiple 2 BR suites, this was exactly what we needed for our large family traveling 7 hours for a wedding! Once I explained all of my needs, Tonja Jones took it upon herself to serve as our personal concierge from the very begginning. She helped us strategically coordinate the use of our Marriott reward points, assign rooms and coordinate the names/e-mails on each reservation to communicate effectively to everyone who would be checking in seperately! No matter how many times I called with an update or change, Tonja made me feel like I was her only priority. She is awesome!!
My return visit to this hotel confirms the experience I had the first time. It is a pleasure to be able to write this second review and once again commend the management for the great customer service of their staff and the high morale that is obviously felt by the employees there. For example, I arrived at about 11:00 pm to check in. All of the parking spaces were already occupied, mainly due to a commercial truck parked long-wise on about 6 spaces. I asked Tanya, the front desk person, where I should park. Tanya offered to move her car to the 10-minute check-in parking to allow for me to park in her space. I thought that was over-and-above my expectations. And it goes on like this with everything at this hotel. They find ways to do more then just lip-service, they find ways to be especially helpful. This was apparent on my last visit and the fact that it is still the case can not be by accident. Thanks, Tanya! And thanks to your competent managers too!
We rented a 2-bedroom suite, which was perfect for our family of 5, and which is very hard to find for a reasonable price anywhere near Va Beach. Overall, the hotel worked nicely for our needs, but we were a 15-20 minute drive to the Boardwalk area, so shuttling back and forth to places near the beach was a bit of a pain. We were close to the Pembroke area, which has a really nice new shopping area with higher end stores and restaurants (Cheesecake Factory, P.F. Chang, etc.). The hotel was fine for us, but it does need a little updating. The finish on the tub/shower was really worn out, and the outdoor pool was small. We could also hear a lot of noise from the room above us; they weren't particularly noisy neighbors, but the sound carried. Bottom line...if you don't mind a bit of a drive to the Boardwalk area and are looking for more space, this hotel should fit the bill.
